The Newcastle team v Everton has just been confirmed.

Rafa Benitez looking to get his team focused again after the 3-0 home loss to West Ham.

The Magpies having won their three games that preceded that defeat.

At his pre-match press conference, Rafa had confirmed that Isaac Hayden, Karl Darlow and Paul Dummett were all out injured.

Then as well as Matt Ritchie missing through suspension, long-term injured Florian Lejeune and Jamie Sterry would also not be ready yet, even though they are back training.

Lascelles, Murphy and Atsu are in.

Ritchie, Perez and Kenedy are out.

Kenedy not evn on the bench so can only assume an injury.

Whilst it appears Rafa has reverted to the three/five at the back against Everton, as Lascelles returns to play alongside Schar and Fernandez.

This is who Rafa Benitez starts with:

Dubravka, Yedlin, Schar, Fernandez, Lascelles, Manquillo, Murphy, Ki, Diame, Atsu, Rondon

The subs:

Woodman, Clark, Shelvey, Longstaff, Muto, Joselu, Perez

      Not like you Kenny.πŸ˜€

      • Kenny

an honest opinion, i think we can write this one off

        • Billmag

I you’re probably correct there, it’s depressing being an NUFC fan at this moment in time.πŸ˜–

          • Kenny

            To true, it`s a killer

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

Rafa’s hands are tied for a lot of these selections. Though playing Atsu and Manquillo over Muto and Clark are head scratchers…

    • Taz

      Totaly agree

  • TeessideMag

    Where is Kenedy??

  • Peaky

    Seen enough already….I’m going out….

      HaHa!

    Looks like 9-0-1!

    • Billmag

Is that the formation or the score.??

        yes

Not really I don’t look like my avatar but he does look like a male version of Bella Emberg.

            What….nasty face?

          • Kenny

            very nasty face

          • Billmag

            He’s to intelligent Damon.πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

  • robbersdog

This weird line-up reminds of last season when he brought Saivet back for one game at West Ham – and he scored.

But this line-up is even weirder than that, it doesn’t make much sense to me, but then I haven’t won the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and La Liga, so what the f*ck do I know?

  • Rabid Dog

At least Perez finally got benched….. let’s hope Muto gets some game time tonight.

  • Mrkgw

With Manquillo and Atsu, we’ve had it. Has Rafa lost the plot? Remarkably poor decisions.

    • Billmag

After Saturday’s result I don’t envy Rafa’s attempts to put any sort of team together.

      • Mrkgw

True. They were dreadful and in all honesty, few deserve another chance.

        • Billmag

The whole clubs so disjointed it’s unreal, gone are the days when we had a player come off the bench that could change a game.

          • Mrkgw

You”re absolutely right – its gut wrenching to think of the players that have been and gone, Ginola, Ben Arfa, Asprilla, Robert, Beardo right the way through to Temuri Ketsbaia – all had the ability to turn a game.

          • Kenny

you`ll make me cry in a minute, real players

          • Mrkgw

Haha, save the tears Kenny as we”ll need them following this game. Not looking forward to the result! 😬

          • 45709

I started to write the same! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ what players!, I feel I could submit an article, what do I say to my boy? How do I get him excited about football?

          • Billmag

            We might get a shock.?

          • Mrkgw

Haha, when Rafa pulls on a shirt and pair of boots! As likely as the toxic one selling up!

          • Kenny

            πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

          • Coach Clagnut

Keep it down to single figures?

  • csh

One of the weakest left sides I’ve ever seen us field. Manquillo and Atsu on the same side is an accident waiting to happen..

  • Paul Patterson

I think I’ve worked it out. It’s a 5,2,2,1 possibly with Rondon as a false nine tucking into the two behind him.

    • Kenny

If Rafa was going for a false Number 9 Perez would be in
      πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      • panther

        Bazinga

  • Kevin Christie

A defensive 5-4-1 with a flat back line, rather than wing-backs! That strategy is grudgingly accepted as a pragmatic choice against the likes of Man City or Liverpool….but Everton?!?!!? Wow.

Also – Kenedy not even in the squad?!?

    • Kenny

      That`s my take as well

      • Kevin Christie

        Absolute madness.

        • Kenny

          yip

    • Leazes.

      There’s a reason for that.

      • Mrkgw

        Cashley?

        • Kenny

          Right in 1

      • Kevin Christie

Reason for the 5-4-1 or for the lack of Kenedy? 5-4-1 because we’re sh*te I suppose but I think 5 at the back with Kenedy and Yedlin pushing forward and a narrow, compact midfield keeps us pretty solid without sacrificing too much attacking threat. Amazed to see the extreme damage limitation tactic tonight!

        • Leazes.

We just got hammered at home by venturing forward, this is carnage limitation.

          • Kevin Christie

Haha. Monkey’s still in the picture on my articles when I write them.

I’ve no problem at all with prioritising defence and keeping things solid but would have Kenedy, Shelvey and Muto in. Manquillo and Atsu are woeful.

          • Leazes.

he’s looking for a smash and grab

    • Off that big defeat at Hammers Rafa wants to get a feel of the game.
We went out to attack West Ham and we were properly exposed and we are not playing at home either.
5-4-1, which could change to 3-5-2 with Murphy behind Rondon looks to me like the right choice here.
I presume Schar or Fernandez will play more of a DMF role as well.

  • panther

I like Murphy, Atsu has been consistently aweful even in the loan spell, don’t understand why we signed him, at least Ashley’s not spending money in January as he’s selling, stop laughing

  • Coach Clagnut

    What the fu…..

  • Kenny

Rondon 1-0 made by Murphy, good run and cross

  • DC1964

    Rondon looks up for it!

      • Duh

        off to Juve then…

  • DC1964

    Painful to watch!

    • Coach Clagnut

shreds the nerves…but evens at half time is better than I could have imagined

      • Leazes.

        should be 3-1

        • Coach Clagnut

No doubt. 2 pieces of remarkable defending is all that’s kept us in the game so far.

          • Kenny

Evertons goal was a right mess

      • DC1964

Cant watch another 45 mins like that!

  • Coach Clagnut

Let’s hope the scousemackem has another brainfart.

  • Billmag

That last 45 min was painful.πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ Toffies getting too much joy down both wings

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

We always beat ourselves by constantly giving the ball away.
Started the game okay but kept inviting them in after getting the goal.

    • Kenny

      lack of quality

  • Andy Mac

Like Wet Spam, Neverton aren’t great but if we allow them the freedom of the park they have no choice but to dominate.

We need an attacking threat to concern them enough to keep players back. Where’s the Hos ?πŸ™„

    • DC1964

I agree, we are just inviting them on! Cant bare another 45 mins like that!

      • Kenny

we do it all the time

        • Coach Clagnut

Most the quality in the team is in defence.

          • Kenny

spot on, we can`t retain the ball in the middle

    • Coach Clagnut

Our passing, generally, has been pisspoor for years.

      • Kenny

as ive said, lack of quality

    • 1957

      Permanently stabled hopefully…

  • Kenny

Match is in English if you have, Rising Tides app

  • Coach Clagnut

Win the ball, pass it back to them, win the ball, pass it back to them..repeat ad nauseum.

    • DC1964

      So tedious!

      • Coach Clagnut

        mind numbing

  • DC1964

The only thing Mackum Pickford has had to do is pick the ball out of his net!

    • Coach Clagnut

Increases the odds for a repeat brainfart hopefully.

      • DC1964

Ha, yes, he can be a bit clumsy!

    • Kneebotherm8

      Money for nothing…..

  • Coach Clagnut

Lot of whingy softshytes wearing the scousemackem colours.

  • 5floorshigh

    Perez – match winner

      • 5floorshigh

        idiot…..

        • Kenny

look in the mirror, Moron. it was sarcasm, now get lost

          • 5floorshigh

            chill out

  • DC1964

This is horrible! We cant keep the ball for more than a second!

  • Coach Clagnut

From attack to defence in one incompetent pass. How much are these clowns being paid?

  • Coach Clagnut

Only 20+ minutes of torture left. Mind, if we get a result it’ll be bumcrack in Fenwick’s.

  • Kenny

    The Hoss is on

    • Kneebotherm8

      Final throw of the dice………

      • Kenny

        we are up to 24%

      • Kenny

        Why Hoss & not Muto

        • Kneebotherm8

          Why Perez and not Muto?

          • Kenny

Exactly we`re 15 games in, he cost around Β£10m and sits on the bench, crazy

          • Kneebotherm8

We’re scraping the barrel to be fair…..the squad ain’t fit for purpose….

  • Kneebotherm8

    Hoss skittled them there…

  • Coach Clagnut

2 Everton players fall into each other and win a free kick. Jesus ref!

  • Kenny

There`s more life in a tramps vest than our attack

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

      I’d still take 1-1 (though I don’t believe it will end 1-1)

      • Kenny

around 10mins left hope we can hold on as we won`t get another 1

    • DC1964

      What attack?!!

  • Kneebotherm8

    99 corners now…..

  • Kneebotherm8

We’ll get football done away with…..

  • DC1964

I know Rafa loves a good defence but this is ridiculous!

  • Ashley-out

A disgrace to football thanks to the parasite

  • Ashley-out

    Atsu nearly scored

  • Kneebotherm8

    Fckn hell……nearly sneaked it…..

    • Coach Clagnut

      nahh…it fell to Atsu…nee chance

      • Kenny

        he should have buried it

  • Kenny

Atsu just fluffed a great chance

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

how much extra time? my newsfeed doesn’t say

    • Kenny

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

        way too much…

  • Kenny

Hang on, other results are going our way

    • Tweed Mag

They are, only Wolves winning now. Hang in lads. Liverpool and Spurs doing us a favour

      • Kenny

        Next up Wolves

  • Tino o

Atsu is a waste of a strip

    • Kneebotherm8

      Not the only one…

    • Tino o

The main man tonight I hate the fact that I’ve seen him in a toon shirt again absolute garbage! Good point tho

  • DC1964

    Just f*kn keep the ball!!!!

  • Coach Clagnut

    GREAT POINT

    • Kenny

a point is a point when you`re schit like we are

  • Kenny

Terrible football but a point at Everton will do.

    • Kneebotherm8

      Exactly……painful to watch like….

      • Kenny

        Chinese water torture

  • Duh

    that’s a very good result

    • DC1964

Cant decide if our defence was brilliant or there attack was s*it!

      • Kenny

We only made 1 mistake at the back, with a decent striker on we could have mugged them in the last 15 mins

        • Billmag

          True.

        • DC1964

It was vintage Rafa! Yep, we SHOULD have won it late on, Atsu had 2 really good chances

  • Coach Clagnut

I thought we’d get our arses handed to us. Fenwick’s window it is then.

    • JohnnyH

      Yep leave a space

  • 5floorshigh

so close to a steal, but not a bad point

  • Coach Clagnut

might of even pinched it if two chances had of fell to a footballer instead of Atsu.

    • Kenny

the only guy who can put them away was subbed

  • JohnnyH

    Chuffintorture

    • DC1964

      Excruciating!

  • Billmag

Atsu didn’t have a bad game but missed a glorious chance.

    • Kenny

      you drinking
      πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      • Billmag

It’s all your fault can’t leave the GLENMORANGIE alone.πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

    • Dillon Tovak

I agree, he did the occasional decent thing. Whipped in some decent balls. But his finishing was what you’d expect of him. We need rid of the Atsu’s of the world.

  • Stephen Paylor

Too many players that are not premier league level. Atsu might not even be at championship level.

    • Kenny

Only the manager holds that squad together

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

A point gained but Atsu should have scored when put through.

  • Coach Clagnut

Scored an excellent goal and two memorable pieces of defending. Fatty oot!

    • Tweed Mag

      Is he there?

    • DC1964

and a great save from Dupravka

      • Coach Clagnut

that was one of the two

  • Kenny

God only knows what will happen if Rafa leaves
    Ashley out, Asap

    • Danimal

I wish he could leave Ashley out.

      • Kenny

I`m just hoping the sale isn`t more bull

        • Danimal

          Yep.

        • nufcslf

If nothing comes of it all, surely even fatty has out done himself by going on the telly telling lies.

          • Coach Clagnut

Fatty & Lies: Two peas in a pod.

    • Mr_Kinnear

What if the fat one actually sells. Will new regime replace rafa. Will they invest 150 mil for new players? Will they borrow against the club and puf it into huge debt, like man utd.Things could get worse before they get better.

  • nufcslf

Listened to it and the second half especially was awful. Atsu had to score and hasn’t hepled his cause with self inflicted critics. Decent point when expecting nothing at all.

    • Kenny

watched it from behind the sofa through one eye

      • nufcslf

Not surprised. It is almost easier to listen to.

        • Kenny

heart attack job watching that lot

          • Billmag

Nee wonder I’m going grey following this lot.

          • Kenny

            πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
going to watch MOTD they only show the good bits
or should i say, the 1 good bit

          • Billmag

They won’t have time to put all the corners in.πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

      • Coach Clagnut

watched it through a bottle of malt

        • Kenny

Me to, although i only had 3 nips all in the 2nd half

        • Mickey Slater

          would that be sarsons

  • Billmag

Didn’t expect to get owt so one point is a bonus I suppose.

    • Kenny

i thought we`d get hammered, but never underestimate Rafa

      • Toon Arnie

When the Fat Idiot lies his way through the January window again that will be it for Rafa – enjoy the last 6 months we have with him. Our fans don’t have the will to protest, about 30% can’t even stay until full time and the atmosphere is appalling at home goes – our away support is our one saving grace.

  • Leazes.

My picture froze but I didn’t notice

    • Kenny

      πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • HarryHype59

Wow! I expected a gubbing, so a 1-1 draw away to high spending Everton feels like a win! I expect the Scouse Mackems are livid.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Another precious point in our perennial relegation battle. Well done Rafa!

  • Mrkgw

    Good draw, will take that.
