Alan Shearer savages Newcastle United match ahead of Match of The Day

Alan Shearer was hoping for a convincing Newcastle display to take us into Christmas.

A win on Saturday would have taken Rafa’s team 10 points clear of Fulham and potentially seven ahead of the relegation zone.

Facing a team who had conceded 42 goals, including a massive 24 in nine away games, Alan Shearer and the rest of the Newcastle fanbase could surely look forward to an open and entertaining game.

Instead, both teams set up with five at the back and a single isolated striker.

Whilst Alan Shearer raved about team and individual performances elsewhere, he had to be honest about his own team.

The NUFC legend declaring that Newcastle v Fulham is ‘lucky to be last’ on tonight’s Match of The Day.

Having sat through the 90+ minutes myself, I think Alan Shearer is being too kind!

Alan Shearer discussing Saturday afternoon’s matches on Twitter…

“Wow wow wow what a goal from Andros Townsend, an amazing volley from 30 yards.

“Watch it later on Match of The Day.

“So many brilliant performances from Crystal Palace players (against Man City) today, but the stand-out was Aaron Wan Bissaka. He was immense.

“Another brilliant finish from the Premier League top scorer Aubameyang (for Arsenal v Burnley).

“Not sure what game will be last on Match of The Day…

“It (Newcastle v Fulham) was that bad it’s lucky to be last!!”
