Alan Shearer knew didn’t have to think twice when asked whether he believes Mike Ashley is going to sell Newcastle United.

The NUFC legend declaring ‘We have been there before and heard it all before’.

It is over 10 years now since Mike Ashley first promised fans that he was definitely selling the club, so only when they see it actually happen will Alan Shearer and the rest of the Newcastle fanbase believe the owner is genuine.

Just like the rest of us, Alan Shearer is sceptical as to the exactly why Ashley decided to make his claims on Sky News on Monday: ‘It seems that these rumours always resurface around the January transfer window and it’s a bit like Groundhog Day to be honest.’

The former NUFC number nine hopes that there is ‘substance’ this time but clearly isn’t expecting anything to happen any time soon.

In better news, Shearer is relieved that a ‘tricky start to the season’ when Newcastle picked up only two points in nine matches, has been followed by 11 points from the last six games.

That six match run of three wins, two draws and just the one defeat has meant the Magpies have only four clubs with better records when it comes to the Premier League form table ove the course of the last half dozen matches.

Alan Shearer talking to Coral:

“I can’t get excited at all about the potential takeover at Newcastle.

“We have been there before and heard it all before.

“It seems that these rumours always resurface around the January transfer window and it’s a bit like Groundhog Day to be honest.

“That said, it is definitely much needed so I hope that this time there does end up being more substance behind the rumours.

“On the pitch, they have been putting together some much better results after a tricky start to the season.

“They came unstuck against West Ham but they bounced back with a good point at Everton, so overall there has been much more promise and that’s been great to see.”

  • Paul Patterson

He and Keegan know that Ashley is a court proven liar and has repeatedly broken promises and sold respected people, including the fans down the river.

Keegan on Ashley and his cronies- ‘You can’t trust these people’.

Simple and to the point. People need to bear that in mind with regards to anything uttered from Ashley and co . .

    • t00nraider

      Everyone tells porkies.

      • Ashley-out

        you more than most, troll

        • Oval85

That is what a troll with a broken back looks like. What a lazy effort…

      • Big Hairy Man

        Not as often as Ashley

      • Toon Arnie

Like pretending to be a Newcastle fan in your case.

  • 45709

Good on shearer! I really wish the media would start asking questions and ramp up the pressure

  • Leazes.

He knows it….some of us know it….. what is the matter with the media boys?

….. How many times does it take?

    #BoycottWolves

    Up yours Douglas!

  • Chris Stanton

Unfortunately Big Al is right to be sceptical. FCB will still be around in the summer, to collect the TV and prize money and pocket it, just as he did last year.

  • Kenny

In an article by Tommy Cassidy he says he`s been told by players that nothing will be spent in January.

  • Paul Cannell

Same old Shearer…always telling the truth.

  • Kenny

Away from football, what do you think is best, Cava or Prosecco.

    • Wor Lass

Champagne – get the proper stuff! Vive la France!!

      • Kenny

i drink champagne, usually Lanson don`t know much about Cava or Prosecco

        • Leazes.

Stick with cider and put it in a champagne glass you won’t discern any difference.

          • Kenny

is that what you do ?
            😂😂😂

          • Leazes.

No but its what Ashley has done with football….

          • Kenny

            Never a truer word said

          • Wor Lass

That`s about right. Clubs like Citeh, Manure, and blue and red Bin Dippers are sipping Moet Chandon and Remy Martin Black Pearl and nibbling foie gras while we`re on scrumpy, boilermakers and savaloy dips – without the savaloy!

          • Kenny

            i like Remy Martin

          • Leazes.

Is that one of your gay friends?

          • Wor Lass

he`s not gay – I`m not sure about his boyfriend, though.

          • Leazes.

He’ll soon find someone with a face like that, pity its someone elses.

          • Kenny

that`s more of a French thing

          • Kenny

            no i`m married & it isn`t to a guy

          • Realist

            It’s to a rubber doll.

        • Wor Lass

Mrs Lass prefers Prosecco but it all comes down to how much you want to spend. We get sparkling Saumur for about 4 euros a bottle when the Mackems come. They think it`s top dollar!

          • Kenny

loads of offers over here but it`s around £6 a bottle i think i`ll just buy 5 of each,

        • Wor Lass

Every year they have Charles Lafitte at half price in one of the big supermarkets – 15.99 euros a bottle. We stock up for parties then. I always go for Ricard and water, though.

          • Kenny

over the last couple of weeks i`ve been to 3 different supermarkets stocking up on 3 types Glenmorangie
            all on special deals

          • Wor Lass

Got my first bottle of that for fathers` day this year. Really nice. I usually go for the Islay malts but that was my father`s favourite so I thought I`d try it. Lagavulin`s my top choice but I`m willing to give `em all a go. 8 year minimum.

          • Kenny

I like the 12yr old Glenmorangie Lasanta but its £46 a bottle
got it on special for £35

          • Wor Lass

Before we came to france I bought some 10 year old Bunnahabhain at our local supermarket. It was a loss-leader at around £18 a bottle. I keep waking up in the middle of the night screaming, “Why didn`t you buy 10 bottles you daft [email protected]?”!

          • Kenny

            😂😂
try the Lasanta, 10yrs in oak cask & 2 in sherry cask
            it`s top class

          • Wor Lass

Will do – if we make it back through the revolution I`ll look a bottle out.

          • Kenny

Macron is -58 in a poll today

    • BigHairyDog

      Bucks Fizz…gotta have my 5 a day.

      • Kenny

i can`t give guests bucks fizz
        😂😂

        • Wor Lass

          Prosecco`s trendier.

          • Kenny

            3 for £18 in tesco usually £30 so i`ll get 6 tomorrow

          • Wor Lass

Sounds good. tesco sometimes do those massive bottles on offer – not sure what brand.

          • Kenny

Magnum of prosecco at Morrisons £10 special offer

          • Wor Lass

            Go for it!

          • Kenny

well my mates will down it in 1

        • Leazes.

There’s a parable in the bible which says something about giving them one decent drink before playing them off with dutch lager…. or to that effect.

          • Kenny

            very good

      • Peaky

Do you start with “Making Your Mind Up” or “My Camera Never Lies”…??

        • BigHairyDog

Any as long as David Van Day isn’t on it.

          • Peaky

            Oh aye…forgot about him…

    • Burt Humperdink

Always found Prosecco a bit overrated. It’s drinkable the hullabaloo is not warranted, just fashionable. I’d rather drink rum or cider anyway.

      • Wor Lass

        White lightning?

      • Kenny

Cheers it`s for guests, i got a 1lr bottle of Capt Morgan Black spiced rum of a mate, haven`t tried it yet but he says it`s good

        • Wor Lass

Use it for Mojitos – class. Pretend it`s summer.

          • Kenny

one of my mates is merchant navy deep sea he get loads of good stuff

        • Burt Humperdink

rum’s a funny one because spiced and none spiced taste quite different. But most people do rum and cokes or rum and ginger and most rums are fine as mixers.

          • Kenny

i always use coke, but he says it`s good straight

        • Realist

You ever thought about ringing the AA Kenny? Your alcoholism now explains your regular outbursts. Stay strong mate.

    • Peaky

      Aparol & Prosecco is nice…

  • ZinUru

all Fatty has done is destroy the boycott movement, he is going nowhere

    • Wor Lass

The Magpie Group are irrelevant. The opposition to the Fat Barsteward remains in the hands of the individual. People can still boycott the game. The problem is it won`t be supported in great numbers by the modern day fans in the stadium and that`s why they`ve called it off. Their tactics have been poor throughout. The numbers will build slowly and could rocket up if he doesn`t back Rafa – or Foxtrot Oscar – in January.

      • ZinUru

8 years i have boycotted the club, after going for 30 years. You are right we dont need anybody to tell us what to do. The problem is there is a new breed of fan who only knows the Ashley era, they are brainwashed into thinking this is the best the club can do

        • Kenny

          100% true

        • Wor Lass

Sadly, true. As someone else said the other day (Gallowgate Dave, I think – he put on a few class posts) the angry young men have disappeared. Some sort of alien takeover, I think.

          • Leazes.

            Angry old men now! ….sigh

          • KRS1

What I don’t understand is why the majority of our fans aren’t as angry as the West Ham fans were last year. They left their Board in no doubt as to their feelings.

          • Toon Arnie

Our home support is appalling now. Against West Ham I had morons booing the late arrivals and then leaving the game 15 minutes themselves – the irony of it all !!

          • Gallowgate Dave

I’ve been telling the missus for years how insightful I am. When “wor lass” finally agreed this isn’t how I pictured it.

          • Wor Lass

Those posts the other day summed up my feelings exactly. The whole situation is complicated but only one person is the villain.

          • Gallowgate Dave

Absolutely. Whatever tactics any group or individual gets right or wrong our collective focus needs to be on Ashley. I’m a season ticket holder, there’s 7 of us in the Gallowgate and we all planned to do the boycott. I still am and as far as I’m aware all the other lads are, some more militant than others. For what it’s worth once True Faith and The Mag came out in favour of postponing the boycott The Magpie Group had little option but to postpone as a half [email protected] boycott would look dreadful. I pray the club is sold but I heavily suspect it won’t be and rather than fans turn on The Magpie Group or any other fan who loves the club every individual fan who dislikes Ashley needs to take responsibility to drive him out and stop blaming or looking to others to scapegoat. Collectively I firmly believe it’s always been in our power but divided we are too easy to rule.

        • Realist

You wernt a proper fan then. I know people who have been going for 30 40 years to this day. When the going got tough they didn’t run.

          • Toon Arnie

I hope they don’t leave early either ?

      • Kenny

My pals who have season tickets are going to boycott the game

        • Wor Lass

Good for them – it won`t be a massive thing, though, unfortunately.

          • Kenny

i know they won`t go as they`ll be at my place downing all my booze. that was the deal
            😁

          • Wor Lass

You might get used to it!

          • Kenny

            i hide the good stuff

  • Big Hairy Man

I can’t believe that the Magpie Group have fallen for Ashley’s BS and called off the boycott to allow negotiations to proceed. He has no intention of selling. I say carry on the protests/boycotts with or without the Magpie Group.

    • Kenny

Poll on the chron, 48% think he is selling, you couldn`t make it up

      • Pezza

Do you want a bet Jenny?

        Sorry, Kenny

    • ZinUru

Kenyon is pals with Ashley, it is a PR scam, if by chance its true Fatty will tie the club in in SD merchandise deals for years. The bloke is a cancer to the club

      • Leazes.

        Yes he is….

      • Pezza

And this is based on what, exactly?

        • Toon Arnie

Are you really that naive that you need to ask that question ? Unbelievable.

          • Pezza

Nothing naive about it, simple question.

Maybe I’m not taken in by the myth and pub talk that you believe.

          • Toon Arnie

I tend to believe in Rafa, Shearer, Keegan, Court Cases, Jonas and a number of journalists – you hero worship Ashley. As I said – naive. The club always goes up for sale near a transfer window, only the dopiest or most blinkered can’t see this or refuse to accept it.

          • Pezza

Right, you’ve chosen the sources that agree with you. Which journalist? Caulkin? The lad who got played like a fiddle by Staveley? Shearer? He just goes with the fans flow.

So you don’t believe Shola, Joey B, Luke Edwards, Biffa + Niall, Marin Hardy, Lascelles etc?

× We are unable to post your comment because you have been banned by The Mag. Find out more.

          • Toon Arnie

You’ve chosen to ignore the most important of them all, Rafa, why is that ?
Shola has since changed his stance completely incidentally.

          • Toon Arnie

Joey Barton ? Yeah good point, I had forgotten about him – another one to add to the list.

          • Toon Arnie

No I prefer to believe the lines of Rafa, Shearer, Keegan, Court judges, Jonas – all have branded your hero a liar. You believe Ashley and only Ashley. As I said – naive.

    • BigHairyDog

I can believe it, some people have suggested after the Shirebrook fiasco that Ashley and KBA had gotten to the Magpie Group. Are allegations of TMG being bought by Ashley and KBA credible???

    • Pezza

Perhaps they realised that when people say they’ll aren’t going into a match for the first 11 minutes or boycotting the game, be that in the Mag, twitter etc, they realised these guys actually don’t go to the match at all.

  • BigHairyDog

So this is supposed to be the furthest we’ve got to being sold yet no bid has been made, even if there are interested parties I think Ashley will toss them off like he did Amanda Staveley. He doesn’t genuinely want to sell, after the takeover blows over by February we’ll probably see House of Fraser advertising nearly as much as SD around the ground.

    • Wor Lass

Please don`t write things about Ashley tossing people off. It makes Penfold jealous.

      • Toontaff

MoscowMonk will also be weary, shaking his hand, in the lift!

        • East Durham Mag

          His hand?

    • Pezza

Right. If Stavely had the money, she’d have bought it.

      • Wor Lass

It`s the same story developing – with another mate of his in the middle of it.

    • Geordiegiants

Amanda was part of the plan.

      • porciestreet

Always said she was a stooge. …..!

        • BigHairyDog

Staveley’s no friend of Ashley according to a few people, from what I heard her 1st two offers where genuine and each time Ashley wanted £50million more than she offered. The 3rd offer of £200million cash was never going to be accepted, so make of that one what you will. Staveley’s main backers where two brothers, they pulled their money when Ashley started messing her around. Anyway if she was fooling people she fooled Rafa.

      • Peaky

        Of course she was…

  • Pezza

shearer cuts and pastes more articles than The Mag. He exclusively said this twice already.

  • Rabid Dog

What I am finding really frustrating is it’s on every news bulletin on Metro Radio, that the boycott is off, yet to my knowledge it was never broadcast that it was on by them in the first place.

The Magpie Group have got a representatives voice though, saying if it turns out to be lies again, then the outcome will be far worse for Ashley.

    • Kenny

The Rat wins again, i don`t know how some fans can be so stupid as to taken in by him

      • Geordiegiants

On the chronicle poll, apparently 50% of the people believe it’s a genuine sale being talked about.
        WTF?

        • Kenny

          idiots

    • Cockneytrev

      That’s a great point,,
I never heard it advertised either,, it’s like all the media sides with fat boy,,,

      • Kenny

        they do

        • Cockneytrev

I don’t know if they’re frightened of his wealth, litigation etc

          • Geordiegiants

Thats exactly what it is, he has them in his pocket. They have all been warned and threatened.

          • Cockneytrev

I actually know someone who’s done business with him and I was told he has 10 different law firms on his phone,,

          • Peaky

            And 4375 takeaways….

          • Cockneytrev

            That goes without saying,,,

        • Rabid Dog

I honestly don’t think it’s that. I think they are afraid of being sued. I think the editorial leadership don’t want to take the risk in going up against him. I might be wrong but I’ll go back to what I’ve always said which is it’s lazy journalism. Wait for someone to write a story and add opinion to that story, not dig to find their own. EASY, CHEAP OPTION.

          • Danimal

Not sure how they could get sued for not mentioning something that’s not happening.

          • Rabid Dog

My point is, given all the things the media could possibly go after Ashley for; How he runs our club, SD, HoF, Debenhams, Evans etc…. They don’t seem to have an appetite for it and I don’t get why other then his legal clout. The BBC are the only ones who have shone a light back onto him and his dealings in any kind of investigative way.

          • Danimal

I see what you mean. Shame it’s become so fashionable for people to knock the BBC. Once that’s been destroyed there will be little or no independent news or investigative journalism left.

    • Leazes.

Very keen to help Ashley aren’t they…. so are the chronicle.

They are the reason for nearly 12 years of occupation.

  • Geordiegiants

The Magpie group, for all the good they started with, have well and truly fuxed it right up.

    • Peaky

      Shithooses Geordie….utter shithooses…

  • JohnnyH

The Ronnie have took the easy option since Ashley took over. They get access to players and the manager to fill the back pages in return for not rocking the boat.
They’ve turned a blind eye to the destruction of the club, to sell papers.
They are nothing but spineless cowards who have turned their backs on the people of Newcastle.
They should have been leading the cause of getting rid of Ashley

    • Leazes.

Their headline on the front page was stop the boycott….. they are true to form…. haven’t bought it in years.

      • Paul Patterson

They should have made a genuine statement. Simply do how you wish but don’t criticise other fans. We may be bought out next month, although I’m highly sceptical of this recent rubbish. It’s likely to be s**t.

        • Cockneytrev

There needs to some other protest group now,, the magpie group are not fit for purpose,,
I always thought the redirect banner was far to subtle for the normal fan to catch onto.

          • Leazes.

I want to know who put that bloody statement out because Mark Jensen was obviously party to it…. he called it out a day earlier…. it has to be his chums at TF

          • Cockneytrev

What gets me is that some of these people are genuine fans and love the club, yet they still carry on giving Ashley the benefit of the doubt, when will the Penny finally drop???

          • Geordiegiants

I think they may have been threatened somewhere along the line, let’s be honest, it was going to be a load of Shyte anyway.

          • Cockneytrev

I can see him threatening the media etc, but surely normal fans couldn’t really give a frack about him, I know I wouldn’t,, he’s a bully ,,
Another thing where he was supposed to have said “I’ll knock you out to some fan in a restaurant in London” that was all ballocks,,

          • Geordiegiants

I would happily do a bit jail of jail if I bumped into him. HAPPILY! I would love to here him say that to me. Big daft bouncers or not.

          • Cockneytrev

            Waiting to be approved
I think there’s quite a lot of fans who’ve thought along them lines,
He’s your typical bully and would cake it if fronted,,

          • Geordiegiants

It’s not though. Have you looked into what it is?

          • Cockneytrev

Yes, of course, it redirects people to other sports websites,, but fans from other clubs and even NUFC, just glance and see another SD advert,,

          • Geordiegiants

Nah it’s things like that, that make people look. I think it’s the thing that is getting to the fatcunt the most.

          • Cockneytrev

            Maybe your right,,
I just don’t see it, talking to fans from other clubs, I’ve had to point it out,,,

          • Geordiegiants

I know what your saying, but because of that it’s a talking point.
I could be wrong, because before I realised what it was about I thought it was a waste of time aswell.
I just think it’s doing it’s job against him personally.

          • Cockneytrev

Yes when you realise, it’s very clever and everyone says that,, but if you have to point it out, it’s just too subtle

        • Leazes.

I think we can turn this to a walk out….. on 79mins

          • Geordiegiants

Didn’t know you had a sense of humour Leazes. 😂🤣

          • Toon Arnie

That’s a great idea, the apologists and sycophants would either have to stay seated (unlikely) or be part of the protest. It’s a ready made rent-a-protest option.

      • Wezza

That’s what FCB does and has done. Ban the media if they step out of line. It is control to a ridiculous standard.
Once the Ronnie got banned they fell into line hook like and sinker and believe any BS KBA PR put out. Stop the boycotts? For shame. There is no way this club is being sold.
        I’m saying it now…
This is pure and utter PR garbage that has actually paid off for them. They win and we lose. Come January nothing will be spent.

        What next?

Are season ticket holders STILL going to purchase season tickets to watch a 17th or above scrap every season, FCB pocket hundreds of millions and asset strips further.
        OR
        We wake up.
What is it going to take for fans to wake up and realise exactly what the FCB is doing?
Judging by the last 11 years I choose the former even AFTER what will happen with the takeover lie and January spend excuse. Sure fans will be angry but they will still trudge in like sheep, led by Simon Carr. Troll.

        • Geordiegiants

His son once opened a radio station based on freedom of speech. This is true this, people went on and started questioning his ethics and he gagged them. Have a read into it.

Can’t fathom the deluded. They would pay to watch paint dry if it was black and white stripes.

          • Cockneytrev

            I agree,,, it’s ridiculous,,,

      • JohnnyH

The Chronicle are paid lackeys and the Magpie Group are clueless.

At the very moment to rack up the pressure, they all put out the call to abandon the boycott.

        • Geordiegiants

That’s about the size of it. The magpie group should have had a figure head. It’s a faceless bunch of knackas.

        • Cockneytrev

I’m very disillusioned and disappointed with the magpie group , they’ve sold fans (who were looking to them for guidance ) down the river,,

        • Leazes.

See Mark Jensen about that…. he pre-empted the statement by a day, which means he and TF have sabotaged it.

          • jetmag

            Agree!

        • Pezza

Nonsense, it always was damaging to any prospective takeover

      • Pezza

IfvyouvIf not read it, how do you know what it says? You thick twerp

        • Toon Arnie

He said he’s hadn’t bought it – he refers to the huge font front page headline. Visible with or without purchase. Come on, up your game Pezza.

    • Cockneytrev

      👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

They asked awkward questions at first. Then they got banned. Now they think their access to ask Rafa and the players banal and ultimately pointless questions outweighs doing what is actually right for the fans. Needless to say, they’re wrong.

    • Pezza

As opposed to other online media that just peddle myth and lies for stupid folk to lap up?

      • Toon Arnie

Do you mean Ashley’s mates at Sky Sports ? I think it’s only you & Moscow that believe any of that.

        • Pezza

You believe he has Sky in his pocket? You are joking.

          • Toon Arnie

Well nobody else gets a chance to do these staged interviews ?

          • Pezza

Really? What do you think happens when they interview anyone?

Tell you what, £10 says we have a new owner by Aug 31 2019

          • Toon Arnie

So have you given up on January ? Make it £20 for August – hopefully i’m the one forking out !

          • Pezza

I think it’s tight for January now, the easy time is April / May

  • Roblee07

The chronicle have not been the Newcastle chronicle for donkeys years. They are owned by the mirror group and they likely call the shots . Staff will be puppets

  • JohnnyH

On a lighter note, was Shearer saying Ashley only had a little chippolata?

  • Mrkgw

    Well said Alan. ASHLEY OUT!

  • Carverlier football

Tbh I think it’s now just a case of how badly Ashley ruins the club before he leaves. I’m pretty sure he won’t be here in 5 years, but as it stands that’s probably because we’ll have been languishing in the lower leagues for a few seasons due to his complete neglect of the club.

    • Peter C

Sadly, I believe you’ll be proved wright, by what you say in your post.

  • Aspri11a

Just remember that in retail the Xmas period is the most important time of the year. Ashley and sports direct board don’t want the club shop, sports direct or John Lewis boycotted or disrupted by protests. This would have been the time to hit Ashley where it hurts, in the pocket. I’m amazed protests have been cancelled, just as they were gaining momentum, on the basis of such little evidence of a genuine takeover. No due diligence has been done according to the press so I don’t see how this is more advanced than Staveley’s bid. Ashley is very transparent in timings of announcements and if there was a genuine bid he’d have made it widely known as he did last time to drum up some competition.

I can’t imagine a more disappointing Christmas present than one from SD…
