Alan Shearer declares “Brilliant” after Huddersfield 0 Newcastle 1
Alan Shearer was a happy man this Saturday afternoon.
Newcastle United winning a key relegation six pointer away from home, a massive result in the circumstances.
Huddersfield could have gone level on points with the Magpies but instead it is Rafa’s team that are now six points clear of the relegation zone, although the bottom two clubs are still to play this weekend.
A nervous and strange game and people will look at 74% possession to Huddersfield and a 10 v 1 corner count in their favour and wonder just how lucky were the visitors?
The reality was that in some ways Newcastle were lucky but only really in terms of the opposition being so limited.
Newcastle rarely got out of their half before the break and Rafa seemed happy for his team to absorb everything that a limited home side could throw at them.
Alan Shearer has commented post-match ‘A brilliant 3 points for Newcastle United’ and ‘A great team goal finished by Salomon Rondon.’
I couldn’t disagree with either comment.
The Salomon Rondon goal on 55 minutes was the first real quality in the match and on that basis they deserved it.
Shortly after the goal, a second moment of quality in the game saw Ayoze Perez make it two, only for the useless Anthony Taylor and his officials to wrongly rule it out for offside.
All through the game, Taylor gave NUFC nothing and did his best to give Huddersfield a chance to get back into the game.
The Terriers are try terrible and this is a three points Newcastle had to get, they will have to be pretty bad to finish below this Huddersfield side.
“A brilliant 3 points for Newcastle United.
“A great team goal finished by Salomon Rondon.
“Watch it on BBC Match of The Day later!!”
