Rafa Benitez is set to be handed the Premier League Manager of the month for November.

The Newcastle boss looks to have only two competitors and the trophy will surely be heading to St James Park.

All the Premier League matches are now completed, with the exception of Cardiff v Wolves on Friday night.

With Wolves so far having two defeats and a draw, Cardiff two defeats and a win, neither are going to feature even if they win this Friday.

Only three managers have a 100% record in November.

Rafa Benitez of course having overseen a remarkable bounce back to form, no wins in the opening 10 Premier League matches after being forced to make a £20m+ profit on transfer deals this summer, has been followed by a trio of November victories.

Newcastle beating in-form top seven clubs Watford and Bournemouth at St James Park, then Burnley at Turf Moor.

The other two managers are Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino.

Manchester City have won 4-0 at West Ham, plus beaten Man Utd 3-1 and Southampton 6-1 at the Etihad.

Tottenham meanwhile have beaten Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley and also won away 3-2 at Wolves and 1-0 at Crystal Palace.

Obviously very good results for both teams but when you look at the respective squads, Rafa Benitez must surely get the November award.

If Rafa does, it will be his seventh, the previous ones being:

Nov 2005, Dec 2005, Jan 2007, Oct 2008, Mar 2009, Apr 2013

The first five at Liverpool and the final one at Chelsea.

If the Newcastle boss does get the accolade, it will put him clear sixth, this is the all-time record in the Premier League era.

Most Premier League Manager of the month awards:

27 Alex Ferguson

15 Arsene Wenger

10 David Moyes

8 Martin O’Neill, Harry Redknapp

6 Rafa Benitez, Sam Allardyce, Sir Bobby Robson

5 Kevin Keegan, Pep Guardiola, Claudio Ranieri

Most Premier League Manager of the month awards by club:

27 Man Utd

15 Arsenal

14 Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City

13 Newcastle United

Yes quite amazing really, Newcastle would go joint third with those other three if Rafa is successful and only one behind second placed Arsenal.

Newcastle bosses to have won Premier League Manager of the month awards:

6 Sir Bobby Robson

Feb 2000, Aug 2000, Dec 2001, Feb 2002, Jan 2003, Oct 2003

5 Kevin Keegan

Nov 1993, Aug 1994, Feb 1995, Aug 1995, Sept 1995

2 Alan Pardew

Nov 2013, Nov 2014

Obviously an element of luck in terms of were a run of form starts and ends.

In Rafa’s promotion season he only picked up one Championship Manager of the month award, for Oct 2016, the same as Steve McClaren! He got the Nov 2016 one with Derby before being sacked later that season, McClaren has just also picked up the Oct 2018 one with QPR.

In the promotion season, David Wagner won two and Chris Hughton one.

If/when Rafa Benitez picks up the Premier League Manager of the month for November, no doubt he will be crediting everybody else, but it is him.

Pipped at the post by Pep, footballs blue eyed boy.

Who manages via a cheque book. I wonder how Pep, Jose, Klopp and Poch would fare running NUFC under the fat miser?

      • 1957

Of those only Pochettino would make a decent fist of it for me…

        • Lewis SG

They will do just fine at mid-table or just above the relegation zone.

        • Peaky

          We’d go down under Jose..

      • Lewis SG

You can only wonder why they would be joining a club like ours.

        • HarryHype59

          It is a hypothetical question!

  • Paul Patterson

Let’s hope its announced after the West Ham game to avoid the curse ..

Have faith .. Saturday could be the beginning of his December manager of the month award.. can’t believe I’ve just said that.

  • JohnnyH

He should get a lordhood for managing under the fat bastardo.

  • Wezza

This is the man that got us to 10th last season and will save us this season. So FCB can take hundreds of millions in TV money again. Not guaranteed when Rafa walks.
If you don’t think FCB takes money from us you’re either a troll or on the KBA payroll.

    • East Durham Mag

You hit the nail on the head there Wezza.

      • Wezza

Cheers. Kind of takes away some gloss of a win, knowing the FCB will be smirking once more.

  • East Durham Mag

Did Monksatan/MoscowMag find this out in a lift and tip you the wink? 🤣

  • Cushty lad

Forget manager of the month. Give him manager of the year at end of season if we finish higher than last year especially with the resources he’s had/NOT had from fat lad!
