Paul Merson has had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Newcastle United supporters.

Some fans getting wound up because of how often in the past he would predict the team to lose.

Merson is covering the Newcastle v Bournemouth match in the Soccer Saturday programme on Sky Sports and thinks he has just made a lot of Newcastle fans very happy.

He confidently predicted Newcastle would lose against Watford and has done the same for tomorrow, a two goal victory for the visitors is the forecast.

Paul Merson thinking that NUFC fans will be more than happy he’s tipping Bournemouth with his tipping skills.

What you have to agree with him about is the form of Bournemouth, very unlucky to lose to Man Utd last weekend, having taken the lead and then conceding the winner in the very final stages.

Only four clubs have scored more than Bournemouth’s 20 goals (Newcastle have seven) and when you are averaging two per game that makes you a dangerous proposition.

We could have also done without this game following Callum Wilson’s call up to the England squad.

Wilson has been linked with Newcastle in the past, along with pretty much every other half decent striker, and with six goals including three in the last two games, his pace and goals are a big danger.

Josh King, yet another previously linked with Newcastle, has got four PL goals so far this season, then they have the luxury of Jermain Defoe to come off the bench. The former Sunderland striker having only 13 PL minutes this season showing the strength of their squad.

A £30m+ net investment in the squad saw the likes of £26m Jefferson Lerma added this summer, as well as £11m for David Brooks from Sheff United who is looking very good.

Newcastle are up against it with a possibly fatal lack of investment in the squad, yet again we look to Rafa Benitez to mastermind a result tomorrow that will prove Paul Merson wrong.

Paul Merson speaking to Sky Sports:

“I’m covering this game on Soccer Saturday.

“It should be a good game after Newcastle’s great result last week.

“I fancied Watford but they rode their luck and managed to get the result.

“Newcastle fans will be pleased to hear that I’m going for Bournemouth here.

I went for Watford last week and they (Newcastle) won, they’ll be hoping for the same this week.

“There’s been talk of Callum Wilson going to Chelsea this week and, after earning his first England call, he’ll be buzzing, as will his team-mates who are scoring readily.

“What’s crazy is that despite going against them, Newcastle and Huddersfield could both get back-to-back wins.

“That would drag so many teams back into the relegation battle.

“Prediction is Newcastle 0 Bournemouth 2.”

We owe them big time, with a bit of luck we should have beaten them home and away last season.

    • WildBill

I remember losing to them in the cup on pens in the 90’s in a rearranged game. The week before had been called off due to fog. The fog game was better.

      • Billmag

I was there mate and you are correct.

      • Themoscow72

Went down there in a back for a transit for the first game which was a nil nil draw hence the replay. Saw John Hall before the game and asked him if he thought we would win. His reply well you tell me.
They were the dark days not now.

        • Kenny

          • Mark Davies

At least the bloke was there. Some of the rubbish you come out with makes me think you were conceived in a bus shelter after leazes and mackem moose had a love in.

          • Themoscow72

That was the season where the last game saved us going into division 3.

          • Mark Davies

Was that the year the leicester fans ran on pitch and david kelly had to jump in away end with us?

          • Kenny

I`ve seen the krap you post as well, now f##k off to your
Horlicks. you havent the brains to realise it`s a bit of fun
if you noticed i`d thumbed him up you vacant a$$hole

          • Mark Davies

          • Mark Davies

As in chicken coward sad little teet. Just in case

        • Kenny

So dark days under Sir John coming 2nd in the Prem and playing in the Champions league compared to playing in the Championship & fighting relegation every year

          • Themoscow72

That was the season when we nearly went into division three. Saved by the last game.

          • East Durham Mag

            What a totalfuckwit he is.

        • WildBill

They were dark times, beating Portsmouth and Leicester to avoid relegation, God bless David Kelly. The difference is that back then there was light at the end of the tunnel, if we avoided relegation we could bounce back, which we did. Now there’s no hope, our ceiling is avoiding the drop, that’s the FCB ‘s ambition level.

          These are darker times.

        • Wezza

Those were dark times yes but these days our aim is for 17th or above and for the FCB to take hundreds of millions in TV money – don’t you dare say he has never taken a penny!
So if you really are a Newcastle fan then you are happy with just avoiding relegation? Then what for next season? Avoid relegation… then what? You guessed it avoid relegation.
FCB hates us and he would tell you to eff off if you bought him a pint. FCB hates you and your loyalty is false hope.

          • Steven05

He is a bored sad pathetic individual – he can not be a fan/supporter of our club and write the sh!!te he does

          • Squintytoonarmy

He’s pure entertainment. Whatever his viewpoint he’s probably been to more games than half of those on here put together. Why he is pro Ashley I just don’t get

          • Steven05

Maybe – but you are forgetting one a main fact – him, like a few others on here – are telly lies in gain of attention. That’s what I don’t get.

        • East Durham Mag

Have you had him in a lift too?

      • Toontaff

Never mind that! I want to know if I was responsible for these fans conceived in the back of transits and in lifts…………….memories……..

  • Rich Lawson

Is he moonlighting as a coach for Thierry Henry ?

  • Kenny

That`s a win for us then, the bookies took Merse to the cleaners

  • KennySamsung

    Paul who?

    • Ashley-out

      your tvs are great

  • Ashley-out

I think we will give Bournemouth a hard time tomorrow and gain our second win of the season.

    • Steven05

And we might give them the respect for being a football club (like we used to be)

      • Ashley-out

we stopped being a real club when the parasite bought Newcastle

        • Steven05

Stallone made a film in ‘86 with a tagllind: You’re the disease, I’m the cure (or words to that effect)

Ashley is the disease, it’s up to us to be the cure

    • Blackburn1066

      and we did

  • Wor Lass

You`re right, Merse – I`m ecstatic, you muppet.
