Some interesting stats from the official Premier League site about Salomon Rondon.

They point out that the three match winning run has coincided with his return to the starting eleven, something which I think we were pretty much all aware of.

However, they also come up with some that are a little more enlightening.

They have a feature where a writer gives recommendations for fantasy football teams in the next round of PL games and even if you have no interest in fantasy football (like me!), the logic and stats still work.

He has picked out four ‘overlooked’ players who should be considered by fantasy football managers and points out that only 1.3% of them currently have Salomon Rondon in their teams.

The point is made that West Ham have only kept one clean sheet in their 13 matches, leaving them open to an in-form striker on Saturday…

The Hammers have actually conceded a sizeable 22 goals, only the bottom four clubs have conceded more.

As for Salomon Rondon, he has obviously scored the two goals in these past three games/wins, but the official Premier League site also give us this interesting stat, that Rondon has managed nine shots from inside the penalty area in this three match spell, with only one Premier League player having managed more in that same time period.

I think this tells us a lot about how the striker has boosted the team, Rondon has given a focus for the attacks and given the side a potential goalscorer, his presence also clearly encouraging Rafa and the other players to improve the supply line, as there is more likely going to be a conversion into goals.

No real clear chances that I can remember from Monday night but certainly Salomon Rondon had a clear header when he should have really scored against Watford, whilst he was denied a hat-trick by a really good save from the Bournemouth keeper.

He should be reaching peak fitness now and against a poor West Ham defence he could have every chance of getting another goal or two.

‘GW14 Differentials: Salomon Rondon

The Scout says Newcastle forward’s prolific shooting should not be overlooked by FPL managers

The Scout is selecting four overlooked players who could be set for a breakout Gameweek 14 in Fantasy Premier League.

Salomon Rondon (NEW) £5.7m

The Newcastle United striker is owned by only 1.3 per cent of FPL managers for his home meeting with West Ham United.

Rondon’s return from injury in Gameweek 11 has sparked a remarkable turnaround in the Magpies’ fortunes.

He has helped them to three successive wins against Watford, AFC Bournemouth and Burnley.

Forward form

The Venezuelan has scored two goals during that run, both coming in his last home match against AFC Bournemouth.

And his statistics point to a forward in form.

Rondon’s nine shots inside the (penalty area) over Gameweeks 11-13 rank joint-second overall.

West Ham travel to St James’ Park with only one clean sheet this season.

Rondon can profit from their lack of resilience to offer significant value as a cut-price forward.’
