Newcastle’s Fabian Schar and Premier League international teammates experience Qatar humiliation
It was a grim Wednesday night for Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri.
The three Premier League players finding themselves on the end of a humiliating 1-0 home defeat to Qatar.
The last time that Qatar played a European team they lost 2-1 at home against minnows Liechtenstein last December.
Switzerland are ranked 8th in the World and Qatar 96th, to put that into perspective, the countries ranked around Qatar are India (97th), Estonia (98th), Palestine (99th) and Madagascar (100th).
Switzerland should have won and had been denied by the woodwork, only for Akram Afif to break away in the 86th minute and grab a shock winner.
Fabian Schar played the full 90 minutes and in the footage below he is the number 22 in the foreground, one of the defenders desperately chasing back before the Qatari player score the only goal of the match.
