Manchester United have signed ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Paul Woolston.

The 20 year old was released in July when his contract ran out and he wasn’t offered an extension.

The media have reported that he had been training at Manchester United.

However, it was Thursday afternoon (today) when Newcastle United released a brief statement, confirming that now Woolston has signed a deal with the Old Trafford club.

Newcastle United official announcement:

‘Goalkeeper Paul Woolston has joined Manchester United following his release by Newcastle in the summer.

Former England youth international Woolston made his Magpies debut against the Red Devils as a schoolboy in 2014, and kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.

But his contract was not renewed when it expired in July, and he has now signed for the Old Trafford side after a successful trial.

He is likely to provide competition for the Manchester United goalkeeping position at under-23 level.’
