Newcastle 2 Bournemouth 1  – Saturday 10 November 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle getting their second win in a row thanks to two Salomon Rondon goals.

At least temporarily out of the bottom three…

Ben Cooper:

“45 minutes of joy followed by 45 minutes of torture.

“My nerves were shredded at the end.

“Great to have a proper centre forward at last and if Rondon can stay fit and motivated then we can win games.

“There is hope at last.”

Jamie Smith:

“That was a bit close mind.

“You could feel the collective tightening when Defoe was introduced with less than ten minutes on the clock and if many more of our games are subject to lengthy injury stoppages Ashley will be after charging us all an extra £20.

“It felt like we should have put this one to bed and I suspect we’d have seen a different second half had Bournemouth not sneaked one back in first half injury time.

“It’s a while since I can remember a nervewracking finish like that one but that’s a good thing.

“3 points, up to 14th(!) and Rondon hopefully off and running with two goals and a great performance leading the line.”

Nat Seaton:

“GREAT WIN!!!!

“Best game for a long while.

“Some decent moves and a cracking second goal.

“Smiles all around, long overdue…”

David Punton:

“I said to a fellow Mag in midweek that it was hard to feel for Salomon Rondon in the Number Nine jersey, given he’s only on loan.

“But he’s done it proud today.

“When he’s fit he’s a real handful and has done his job almost perfectly here with two goals that handed us back to back wins.

“On another day he could have bagged four, even if we’re not too greedy in this 40 point quest.

“Heading into the game we were reminded of how far we have fallen when most fans are worried about being able to get past Bournemouth.

“In classic Rafa style we have eked out another haul of points. Well done to all concerned.”

Toon Bano:

“Surprising win.

“International break come at a bad time.

“But we are alive!!!”

Paul Patterson:

“Rondon reminiscent of Sir Les.

“Should have killed them off.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“What a day, what a performance.

“They looked like a really determined group of lads today, great commitment to the cause.

“I know it is an obvious thing to say but if Rondon gets out on the pitch to play like that every week, we will be fine.”

Newcastle`s 2 best players aren`t even ours 😂😂😂 and you can be rest assured the Fat Rat will buy neither next summer.
I`m afraid it`s going to be a never ending story of relegation battles as long as the vermin owns the club.
anyway Rondon looked the real deal today & Kenedy is regaining his form,
a great 3 points to build on.

    • Wezza

Spot on and another hundred million plus for the FCB!

  • graham18

    FCB OUT!!!

  • Peaky

If Rondon is out on the Toon tonight make sure someone gets him whatever Venezuelans drink….Angel Falls Water with a dash of tarantula venom…..make sure it’s a double 🥃🥃🥃

    • Kenny

      Snakebite
      🐍

      • Peaky

        😂😂 that’s the one…

  • molend

I thought Songey and Schär were good today. Even Atsu wasn’t to be sneezed at.

  • Leicester Mag

Good win. Just wish I could suspend reality and believe we’d build on this.

    • Dave Pattinson

At least we can all enjoy MOTD for a change. Hardly seen it this season!

  • Andy Mac

Another sub 50k crowd. So Fatman what’s it to be ? Support for Rafa or watch support dwindle away ?

    • fistsofsteel2

Get lost! Rafa nearly threw the game with his half time talk and second half subs. We’ve only won these games because he’s been forced into utilising Ki.
We have the players. It’s Rafa’s tactics, not Ashley’s, that are wrong.

      • JohnnyH

So you were in the changing rooms at half time with Natturner then?
Same person or are you just on the same brief?

      • Big Al 1967

So who would you have brought on for the exhausted Kenedy and Ritchie and the injured Diame? Enlighten us all

        • molend

          Cinderella, Buttons and Widow Twankey.

      • Ashley-out

        idiot.

      • TheFatController

Whilst you’re writing that some imaginary friend is probably with your imaginary girlfriend …

      • Danimal

Yeah, your favourite wet dream Mike Ashley’s “tactics” have been incredibly successful over the last 11 years, haven’t they?

  • Natturner26

Another brilliant first half, another disastrous Rafa talk at the half and disastrous subs. It’s like he was trying to throw away not 2 but all 3 points. And the only reason we were so brilliant first half is that injuries forced him to play his best team. I hope he walks before he makes more disastrous decisions in January.

    • JohnnyH

Aye good old Mike will sort things out, Steve Bruce will be the new messiah.

    • JohnCornwell’sHair

      Jesus Christ!
      Are you on glue?

      • JohnnyH

A new alias for one of the Ashley PR servants

      • Westdentoon

Bag fulls of the finest Evo stick, without doubt!

    • Big Al 1967

Disastrous subs??? So who exactly was there to bring on you Muppet!!
Rafa is not even allowed to shop at Aldi for players, he has to look in the bins for cast offs. We are down to the bare bones due to the transfer policy of Ashley and his cronies hence the use of Hayden, Atsu, and Clark. Both Kenedy and Ritchie were physically exhausted while Diame was carrying a knock.
So I will ask you again who would you have used?

      • Natturner26

We killed them first half, came out second half and put 10 men behind the ball like they were man city. And we’re lucky they didn’t come back and beat us. That is Rafa’s second half strategy and i disagree with it sorry.

        • Big Al 1967

Watch the game back on Sky Sports and see Rafa telling the troops not to sit so deep. Likewise listen to the Commentary as they pick up on it too.
Second half other than the Ibe miss name me one other clear goal scoring opportunity they had? Rondon had 2 in that half alone
However answer the question I put to you. You heavily criticise the substitutions but who would you have brought on for the exhausted Ritchie and Kenedy and the injured Diame

          • Natturner26

I think Murphy is desperate for a run in the team, and if I was Rafa I’d start integrating some of the other younger players so that the fans never have to watch wantaway Hayden and broken Atsu again. With our consistent underinvestment in the side we can’t afford to not utilize our best academy prospects.

          • Ram Kishore

We can start to integrate players only when things are a bit smooth for us. We were deep in the pit before the Watford win. Few more points and I am sure Murphy will start..
I am just thinking about all the people who kept saying Sorensen must be given a run soon. Would it be wise to give him a place in the squad soon.

            Rafa knows I suppose.

          • Big Al 1967

Your own direct quote about Murphy

‘But he also seems to play badly every time he gets a chance. Final ball always poor whether a cross, pass, or shot.’

And yet you would trust him in such a game?? I know I would not and neither apparently does Rafa

‘With our consistent underinvestment in the side’

So whose fault is that then? Or are you blaming Rafa for that too?

          • Natturner26

He is Rafa’s record signing. I look at what his twin brother is going with a year less top flight experience and can’t help but think that he is being developed better by his coaches.

          • Big Al 1967

Boy you are really good at avoiding questions put to you! A future politician me thinks
For the record Josh is not exactly pulling up trees at Cardiff

        • Ram Kishore

We killed them in the first half because we put pressure on them but they scored a goal in the injury which reversed everything which is how psychological nature of football works Ig. That goal upped their confidence and our players lost the ball consistently. Is losing the ball Rafa’s fault?
Diame is the best physical midfielder we have but poor on the ball in the middle.

I do agree on the Ki part. Rafa wouldn’t have utilised Ki if it hadn’t been for Shelvey injury.

Rafa was shouting at players to control the game and get the ball. He had to go five when we were being ambushed.

        • Danimal

Did Rondon (twice), Ritchie and Atsu all disobey this terrible team talk by coming within a whisker of making it 3-1?

          • Ram Kishore

We were close to killing the game by those chances but second half was a bit of worry.
            Just being honest and fair

          • Danimal

We played well in the second half. Of course it was a worry, being just one goal ahead. But we played well in both halves and deserved the win. I know you are a fair but you need to realise this guy (fists full of bull shyte/Nat Turner) is just a troublemaker.

          • Ram Kishore

Yeah we definitely played well in both halves. It was relief to see us playing this good especially after the ones like Southampton, Leicester and cardiff.

      • Billmag

Take no notice mate they are infiltrater’s that have no place on an NUFC forum.

      • Toontaff

There’s rumours Mike Ashley will be in training during the international break – maybe he’ll make our bench………..

    • fistsofsteel2

      Spot on.

      • Carverlier football

        Nat…?

    • GlasgowMag

One word that covers that nonsense yip that’s it [email protected]!!!

    • 45709

If we go down it’ll be Rafa not cashley?

You serious?… guess that accounts for the other regulation under cashley… oh. Why are you praising mike?

    • Carverlier football

I just looked back through your comment history. It’s pretty much exclusively criticism of Rafa. Every single comment. Axe to grind? Care to give any opinions on anything else to do with Newcastle? Or do you only comment on Benitez? Are you Richard Keys….?

      • Billmag

Sounds like ghostwriter’s used a new name, he used to come out with that patter.

      • Natturner26

Sure I love Kenedy and Fernandez. Not a fan of Rafa you’re right.

        • Carverlier football

Oh well then, I have to say that in depth discussion of Kenedy and Fernandez has convinced me you’re not a one-trick Benitez character-assassin. I’m sure you just weren’t near a mobile device or computer on every previous occasion you had a non Rafa-critical comment to make…

    • TheFatController

I think it was Merson said ‘Bournemouth ran out of ideas’

Why, because Rafa played a back 5 and gave them no room.

What a desperate little man you must be, to ignore the evidence and bias against it. Weird – but you carry on convincing the man in the mirror of your genius …

    • Mike

christ enjoy a victory man the crowd at St James did!!!

    • panther

Agree with the 2nd half, but Ashley’s greed is the main culprit here

    • Wezza

      And blocked.

  • JohnnyH

It’s great to get a win and really pleased for Rondon, the bitter irony is winning means more of the same from Ashley.

  • Martin

Second goal was worthy of Sir Les.

  • fistsofsteel2

Much better……sell Shelvey and Lascelles and use the money in the transfer window.
If Rafa hadn’t been forced into playing Ki (via Shelvey’s injury) would we have won these games? We look much more solid without the egos that are Shelvey and Lascelles.

    • Kneebotherm8

Sell shelvey and lascelles and pocket the money Mike……..more like it…..

    • Ashley-out

      idiot

    • Billmag

Shut the [email protected]@k up, and you are the one that’s just called Glasgow Mag out J.Jc.

    • Ram Kishore

What… Now Shelvey and lascelles are egos?
      Wtf.
Schar was good on the ball, partnered well with Fed got forward well but did u see the one on ones he had with Bournemouth forwards. They got past him quick and easy and Feddy cleaned it up. Lascelles is good on these situations.
Our defense is quite good with players of different characteristics.

You are right on Ki thing imo.
But you know what injuries are what gives chances to players on the bench, if they impressed .. good for all, if not nah. This is how football works ig. Shelvey’s performance last season warranted him a starting place this season. Ki didn’t impress in the first few matches did he? No.

      • Danimal

You’re being too generous to the trouble-making cretin. Just ignore it.

        • Ram Kishore

          Haha ok

      • Pezza

If we were a little safer in the league, the midfield should be JJs & ki but I don’t think Rafa likes to take risks, especially at this stage

  • GlasgowMag

This is why Rafa is a world class manager!! He knew exactly when the fixtures came out that the 1st six fixtures would be damage limitation due to our scandalous lack of activity in the transfer market!! But did he panic no he knows exactly how to get the best out of his squads even with the bullets being consistently fired in his direction by the SD PR machine!! Special mention to the armchair manager fan coaches out there who wanted to get rid of Rafa not so clever now are you!!

    • JohnnyH

I dunno mate there’s a (couple?) of Ashleys PR vermin on here tonight.

      • GlasgowMag

Yip fists of [email protected] and nitsturner!!🤔🤔😂😂

      • Carverlier football

I suspect they’re the same person. Could quite easily be wrong. Looking back at their comment history they (nat in particular) pretty much only come on to criticise and lay blame with Rafa…

        • Natturner26

You are wrong. I put my picture up and everything. I love Newcastle and am not embarrassed to post my opinions on here even if most don’t agree with me. You lot seem very paranoid about people having multiple accounts. Seems like that would be a lot of trouble to go through to accomplish nothing.

          • Carverlier football

You know what – on that last sentence I am in absolute and complete agreement with you.

          • Ram Kishore

Right about people here being Paranoid about multiple accounts. I like Rafa but at the same time I know there are fans who aren’t impressed about the way of football played at our club. They do know that Ashley is at fault but at the same time they also know Rafa makes his own fair share of the mistakes.
            The players too make mistakes.

I did get worried about Rafa in the pre season with the interviews.
The players should have done their protest without displaying it to the public.

I don’t know but most football fans forget things quickly.

Rafa was perfectly right on this
” If a player keeps scoring goals in every match, fans love him even when his opinions doesn’t satisfy the majority”

          • Pezza

The funny thing is, the intelligent contributors have mostly been banned by the Mag. The Mag called itself the independent voice when it was a paper magazine, it now bans anyone who doesn’t go with the editorial agenda.

The result is they are left with these cretins who can’t believe their opinions are being challenged.

*We are unable to post your comment because you have been banned by The Mag. Find out more.

          • Wezza

Yeah the whole paranoid line doesn’t work since it has been proven.

        • JohnnyH

          Every time
          [email protected]

          • Carverlier football

Given that every poster with two brain cells knows there are multiples on here, the minute anyone cites “multiples paranoia” they pretty much give themselves away…

      • 5floorshigh

following that logic there are more Rafa PR than Ashley PR ‘vermin’ on here tonight.

        • JohnnyH

Yes there are more of us genuine supporters than Ashley hoop lickers if that’s what you mean

          • 5floorshigh

again following your logic, I wonder if you have ever criticized any NUFC managers under the Ashley regime…if you have I shall let you work out what that must mean – according to your logic

          • JohnnyH

I don’t debate with Ashley hoop lickers.
            Especially smartarses

          • Pezza

Being smart is reletive to the company folk are in. With the usual Mag contributors, it’s very easy to appear smart.

          • Toontaff

I guess you meant to say ‘relative’………………………?

          • Pezza

            Heh, smartarse!

          • 5floorshigh

just to be clear on this, I absolutely loathe Ashley and all he stands for, this goes way beyond his ownership of NUFC.

          • Pezza

You are not a proper fan mate, just a serial whinger.

We are unable to post your comment because you have been banned by The Mag. Find out more.

    • Kneebotherm8

They were never ever so clever…..

    • fistsofsteel2

Are you blind, or stupid? You clearly know f all about football. Jesus H.

      • JohnnyH

        F#ck off

      • Carverlier football

I have no idea whether you know anything about football. Give us some genuine opinions and maybe we can judge?

    • fistsofsteel2

…or maybe your being sarcastic? If so – forgive me for missing the ironic humour.

    • fistsofsteel2

Rafa £4million a year…..you’re clearly on his payroll

      • Danimal

Fists of steel, brains of shyte.

      • Squintytoonarmy

Where u suddenly appeared from? Can we meet i will kick you from Eldon Square to the coast

        • fistsofsteel2

          Whatever

      • Cockneytrev

Another troll,, the site is full of them…

        • Wezza

Yep that ones blocked, they seem to come out of their bins when we win. To that I’d say to them I loved watching City beat Manure 3-1. Loved it.

      • Big Hairy Man

        You’re clearly on Bishop’s.

    • Cockneytrev

      Well said,,,👏👏👏👏

  • 5floorshigh

Rondon impressed for the first time, MOM performance and without Shelvey the team as a whole played with more unity and freedom (especially in 1st half)…however, Slomo terrible again and Schar had a couple of scares but showed his ability to play the ball out of defence. The second half performance once again was a worry, think Rafa needs to rethink whatever he is telling them at half time.

    • GlasgowMag

It’s quite simple really!! Other teams within the premiership have invested within their squad so they have the luxury when players start to get tired or don’t perform of sending on quality players to boost the performance. Our squad is basically threadbare because of the scandalous lack of investment by our workhouse owner so he does not have this luxury and that is the reason we are left hanging on at the end of the games!! All our subs yesterday were standard championship quality players. It’s actually a miracle Rafa has been getting any results at all against teams like Bournemouth who have invested heavily within their squads!! Another season another relegation fight no chance of a cup run and still we have fans who will not do anything to get rid of this asset stripping leech!! Join the fight guys Ashley out!!!

      • JohnnyH

        Absofuckinlutely

      • Cockneytrev

Couldn’t agree more,, the weakest squad we’ve had since the early 90s..

      • Geordiegiants

        Exactly

      • Billmag

Spot on mate some people can’t see past there nose end.

      • 5floorshigh

Agree with the lack of quality in depth that we have, I was making a point from observing some good first half performances to observing some poor second half performances…players seem to come out for the second half with a fear and lack of confidence. Not really sure if Bournemouth’s squad is worth much more than ours, then again two of our premiership players are here on loan and cant see any squad investment in Jan…just hoping these two wins is kick starting some team confidence

  • Alreet

Ki looked more settled than ever today. I think him and shelvey could make a good pair. Mo just doesnt know the time of day.

Perez dropping off worked really well today, the hold up from rondon then the burst from the wingers was just what we needed. It wont work all the time but keep using it while it does.

    • Cushty lad

Yep I’d go along with that. Don’t know if it’s just me or not but Diame just seems in a trance most of the games. That half hearted flick of his leg at an attempt to stop the ball was embarrassing. Needs to be moved on.

  • Mirandinha9

Shearer says it was a brilliant victory. Ok – so, when in his prime, the Toon had won a 2-1 home win against a side that they finished way higher than last year, would also have been deemed as a brilliant victory? No, instead it would have been a mundane, expected win. It shows that in terms of expectations where has took us to – we’re now utterly grateful for any win that comes along. How this club has fallen. NUFC 1892 – 2007 RIP.

    • James

Any win is to be a positive. Lighten up man.

  • Richard

You can just see us going on a mini unbeaten run until the end of the Jan transfer window, to justify not signing anyone! Followed by a rapid decline in performance and results. All part of the SD master plan! I also fear the sale of Lascelles in the window if Schar starts to play like yesterday on a regular basis. Sale proceeds of course just trousered by A$hley.

  • t00nraider

We are threadbare due to Shepherd and hall’s dodgy finances, Keegan bailing, Ashleys bad choices of employment and some kak supporters. He’s now showing signs of getting it right. If we all support the team we can make steady progress.

  • panther

Poor sub choices and formation changes almost snatched the points away again

    • Billmag

No it didn’t, stop having digs at the manager because without him we would be deep in the 💩, or do you prefer it if we were.

      • panther

It’s a double edged sword, we start picking up points no transfer funds and more Ashley, I do think the tactic of backs to the wall when we get a lead is suicidal we went from a commanding position to clinging on, that’s what lost us the game a total the theatre of cockneys and tourists

        • Billmag

I understand what you are saying but Rafa’s been around the block a few times and you have to trust him, and arguably we had best 3 chance’s in the game to extend our lead so wasn’t exactly backs to the wall

          • panther

We let them in when we should have carried on dominating the game

          • Billmag

Did we [email protected]@k let them in they didn’t exactly pound our goal the same way as Manure did.

          • Alreet

Totally agree. Better teams than us have lost against bournmouth. We didnt let them back in they pushed us back.

You have to remember we arent exactly in a commanding position eithet league wise or player wise. This was a good win but still we need fash out.

          • Billmag

            👍

          • panther

They had disallowed if the kid had of left it the onside bloke behind him would have made it 2-2, we let them in when we should have buried them

          • Billmag

Hold on a minute there what’s your problem, it doesn’t matter who you play in this league teams are going to have chance’s, why are you knit picking certain situations we could and should have at least another 2 goals at least so if you don’t mind just go a [email protected]@@@@g way you are boring me now.

          • panther

            Say please
