Good to see at last something positive to talk about in terms of Newcastle United on the pitch and Jamie Redknapp is amongst those who have taken notice.

Selecting his Premier League team of the week, the former Liverpool and Spurs midfielder has chosen two of Newcastle’s starting eleven from Saturday.

No surprise that one of them is Salomon Rondon.

Jamie Redknapp saying Rondon’s second goal, was a ‘brilliant, old-fashioned centre forward’s header’, the goal also proving to be a match winner.

Redknapp adding: ‘Finally, it looks like they have a player who can make the most of Matt Ritchie’s pinpoint crosses.’

Ritchie has put a few decent crosses in this season but that wasn’t the case on Saturday.

Instead, it was Kenedy who put in the cross of the match for that Salomon Rondon bullet header.

The second Newcastle player that Jamie Redknapp has picked out is a bit of a strange one.

After Rondon, I would have said the likes of Fernandez, Ki and Dubravka were the next best performers, all having great games and generating a very good spine of the team with Rondon.

Instead though, Jamie Redknapp has included DeAndre Yedlin…

The defender as always gave his best in an energetic display but he wasn’t one of Newcastle’s better players. He did however, do very well when creating the opening goal for Rondon and this is no doubt the main reason he ended up being selected.

No doubt, Redknapp and others pick these best elevens mainly from brief highlights and players creating and scoring goals standing out. On that theme I saw the Tottenham match and I thought Foyth was pretty poor at the back yet Jamie Redknapp has picked him, presumably because he scored the winner, rather than for his defending…

Jamie Redknapp on Salomon Rondon:

“What a brilliant, old-fashioned centre forward’s header from Salomon Rondon for Newcastle against Bournemouth.

“Using his strength to outmuscle Nathan Ake, he flung himself at the ball to fire his team to victory.

“Finally, it looks like they have a player who can make the most of Matt Ritchie’s pinpoint crosses.”
