First quotes from Rafa Benitez pre-Burnley press conference – Confirms injured list

Rafa Benitez has been speaking to the media ahead of Monday night’s game at Burnley.

The Newcastle boss meeting the press on Friday afternoon as he looks to make it three wins in a row.

Rafa Benitez in upbeat mood after consecutive wins, declaring ‘At the start we were walking; now we are running; hopefully we can start sprinting!’

The manager saying it will be a ‘great bonus’ if Rondon continues his form from the win over Bournemouth.

On a more negative note, Rafa confirmed that Paul Dummett is definitely out and they are going to further assess his hamstring injury next week.

Whilst Florian Lejeune will still be missing BUT the manager revealed he is progressing and has completed a full training session with the rest of the squad.

Less positive is the news that none of Muto, Shelvey and Lascelles have completed a full training session so far.

As we are 20 days after the trio were injured against Watford, you would have to think there is no chance of any of them starting at Burnley.

Rafa says there are still a couple of more training sessions before this next game but he is somebody who never risks players, so at the very most maybe one could possibly make the bench.

Rafa Benitez speaking at his pre-Burnley press conference:

“At the start we were walking; now we are running; hopefully we can start sprinting!

“ Burnley will try to get all three points too but the differences aren’t too big in the Premier League.

“Home or away we have to try to get the three points.”

“Sometimes you can have a great game plan and you lose.

“Sometimes you have an awful one but you win.

“You try to prepare things right and then they go wrong.

“Paul Dummett is not available.

“He has been treated (for a hamstring injury) and we will see how he is in the next week.

“Florian Lejeune is still not available but he has done a full training session with the team and he is getting closer.

“If Salomon Rondon continues playing like that and scoring goals, it will be a great bonus for our attack.”
