The Newcastle team v Burnley has just been confirmed.

Rafa Benitez looking to get his third victory in a row.

A win at Turf Moor would take Newcastle United four points clear of the drop zone.

The manager making only the one change.

Ciaran Clark replacing the injured Paul Dummett.

Jonjo Shelvey the only returning from injury player deemed fit enough to return to the squad but only on the bench.

As reported earlier today, Karl Darlow is now out injured.

A real positive to see Freddie Woodman given the chance ahead of Rob Elliot to step up to the bench.

Rafa has named Ciaran Clark as Captain, nothing against Clark but I think Federico Fernandez would have been the perfect choice.

This is who Rafa Benitez starts with:

Dubravka, Yedlin, Schar, Fernandez, Clark, Kenedy, Ritchie, Ki, Diame, Perez, Rondon

The subs:

Woodman, Manquillo, Shelvey, Hayden, Murphy, Atsu, Joselu

  • Paul Patterson

Need a back up left back desperately ..

    • mentalman

I’d have rather seen anyone in there over clark

      • Kenny

        How about Hoss then
        😂😂😂

        • Leicester Mag

Should have been left back in Stoke

          • Kneebotherm8

            Ha ha ha ha……

      • Kneebotherm8

Good headed goal by Clark there…..

        • Kenny

Aye, he wont be taking Rafa`s job anytime soon
          😂😂😂😂😂😂

        • mentalman

Shame he didn’t contest the header when they scored

          • Kneebotherm8

            Blame the goalie……everyone else is…..

          • Kenny

            Keeper miles out of position

          • Kneebotherm8

Gotta be mental not to see that.

          • Kenny

            😂😂

          • mentalman

I saw it i also saw the striker have a free header, the keepers positioning would have been irrelevant if the defender had defended the cross

          • Kneebotherm8

Any goalie worth his salt doesn’t get beaten by a twenty yard header…….Dubravka will be gutted at his positioning…..made up for it like with his save from Wood….

          • mentalman

He was out of position but clark should have done better to.

We have seen the good and bad with clark like we normally do.

          • Kneebotherm8

So who would you have played at left back then?……We only know who you wouldn’t have played….

    • Kneebotherm8

Have done for a very long time….

  • mentalman

I guess woodman being on the bench shows elliott is probably going to be leaving soon

  • Toontaff

Subs: Woodman, Murphy, Shelvey, Hayden, Manquillo, Joselu, Atsu

  • Toontaff

    Kick off delayed until 2030

    • Superdooperhooper

Has the kick off been delayed for twelve years ? We might find a decent owner by then

  • Leicester Mag

Sat on a train London to Loughborough next to Howard Wilkinson and I’m not even in a lift.

    • Rabid Dog

Make sure you buy him a pint then

    • Kenny

i avoid lifts when i can, some very strange people in them

  • Leicester Mag

    Awful goalkeeping! Ffs

    • Kenny

      Shocking

  • Kenny

Newcastle 2 up and in command then once again they go on the back foot and pay the penalty

  • Danimal

We’re just not allowed to relax and enjoy a game. 3-0 would be fairer than 2-1, same as last week.

    • Duh

Yeah we’ve been much better side but as normal have not helped ourselves

  • Kenny

Ritchie missed from 1 yard, yes 1

    • Mxpx

It’s got to go down as a howler we could have really done with that going in

      • Kenny

        Unbelievable

    • Kneebotherm8

      Fckn unbelievable miss ffs….

      • Kenny

If we don`t win this then it`ll be our own fault

        • Kneebotherm8

          Exactly.

  • Virsino

    Perez shocking again tonight!

    • Kenny

      to true he is

    • Wezza

      Barely saw him!

  • ToonTom

Ritchie took his chance like he couldn’t miss which – by the way – was correct.

  • ToonTom

Not taking our chances and squandering possession too cheaply. Usually only leads to one outcome …

    • Kenny

      spot on

  • Kenny

there`s a guy in the crowd with a big black & white hat with bells on
    It must be Monk
    😂😂😂😂

    • mentalman

He had a medical emergency in the tunnel

    • Peaky

The funny thing is….it really probably is him…

      • Kenny

        😂😂😂

      • Kneebotherm8

        Not funny……sad….

    • Kneebotherm8

Pull the other one….It’s got bells on….

  • ToonTom

It’s so frustrating. There has clearly been a real difference in quality tonight between these two teams (which must be worrying for Burnley fans as we aren’t particularly good ourselves) but we haven’t put our superiority to bed, and once again we’re all on tenterhooks for the last 30 minutes.

  • ToonTom

When you put Chris Wood in a Championship team against a Championship team, he suddenly seems to be quite good. Last gasp equaliser from him against us tonight, everyone?

    • Peaky

      Yes 2-2 all over it…

  • Mxpx

    Great joselu is coming on

    • Kenny

      2 Spanish Donkeys up front

      • Mxpx

Only positives are Burnley have equally hapless forwards

        • Kenny

          yip

  • GlasgowMag

We are playing to deep nervous 15mins ahead!!

    • Mxpx

Not sure why we haven’t learned yet this is a terrible way to close out a game

      • GlasgowMag

Same all the time we just haven’t got the quality on the bench to close games out!!

  • ToonTom

Now we are winning nothing. Like many of our games, we have no late momentum so we are handing it back to Burnley. They are having enough half chances that I feel totally sick in my stomach. Still, we have another corner and we’ve scored so far from two already …

  • Kenny

FFS, Hoss misses from 8 yards

    • Mxpx

Can’t hold that one against him too much he didn’t do badly with it

      • Kenny

No defender to beat just the keeper

        • ScreamStevie

And it was Perez who laid it on a plate for him with some great work. Not that he’ll get any credit on here…

          • nufcslf

Perez does too much wrong for the 90 mins he keeps getting for any real credit. Should do a lot more and just doesn’t.

    • GlasgowMag

He was unlucky there did everything right!!

      • Kenny

he missed with only the keeper to beat from 8 yards

  • GlasgowMag

O man you couldn’t make it up!!!

  • ToonTom

Hits the post in fairness but we really are giving these 3 precious points up if we don’t bury a third.

  • mentalman

The team is dead on their feet and we aren’t bringing on the subs

    • ToonTom

But they are … ominous …

      • Mxpx

Both players who are capable of hurting us

  • ToonTom

You just want to scream. This game has got an undeserved 2-2 writ large upon it.

    • Kenny

we should have been out of sight

  • GlasgowMag

Kenedy is so [email protected] frustrating!!!

  • Kenny

This match has proved again we need a Number 10

  • Kenny

Good win but the lads made hard work of it

    • Tweed Mag

Shredded nerves again. Must send a photo of an empty net to Perez.

      • Kenny

he must be replaced in January

        • Tweed Mag

Yes. He has had every chance to improve.

          • Kenny

in his 5th season he isn`t going to get any better

        • mentalman

He’ll surely be out the team once muto is back

          • Kenny

            I would think so

        • Mxpx

Rumours are Miguel almiron is a target he’d be an excellent prospect… But we won’t pay for him so we’ll probably end up with whoever is available on a free

          • Kenny

            Fatso won`t spend i`m afraid

        • Peaky

The loontune from Monkseaton will still have him man of the match….

          • Kenny

            11 out of 10

          • GlasgowMag

He can’t comment he’s stuck in the lift!!🤔🤔😂😂🤣🤣

          • Tweed Mag

            With Perez

      • Danimal

Well, Ritchie didn’t need a photo, he missed an empty net from a yard, that was easier to score. Then gave them an opportunity to equalise with the last kick. I don’t mean to criticise him because he worked hard. As did Perez.

        • Kenny

Ritchie`s was 1 of the worst misses i`ve ever seen but as you say he put a shift in

          • Danimal

They all did, for all Burnley’s huffing and puffing, we were miles the better team.

        • Tweed Mag

Yes, some terrible misses. Perez does it too often though, he should be chipping in with 10 goals a season.

          • Danimal

Would have been impressed if he’d chipped that one in!

  • ToonTom

Free kick with seconds to go. Great.

  • ToonTom

    Am I on time delay?

  • Coach Clagnut

    Blood pressure through the roof.

  • mentalman

The monday night curse is finally broken

  • GlasgowMag

Perez is a very lucky guy shocking decision to try and score from there with no keeper in goal and players around him!!

    • Danimal

Yes but I thought he played well, unfairly maligned. Feared the worst with Ritchie’s miss and Hoss hitting the post.

      • Virsino

Bar the bit of play that allowed Joselu to hit the post, his passing was atrocious, his effort getting back to support Ritchie was pathetic, and his closing down was lethargic. I don’t think he’s unfairly maligned at all. That’s just my opinion though. On the other hand, Ki was great. Now, there is a player who played well!

  • Kneebotherm8

    Us above west ham now?

    • Tweed Mag

      yes on goal difference

  • Peaky

    ✊✊✊
    #freeJezza….

    • Kenny

      😂😂
must have got 6 months again be out for Christmas

  • Peaky

I’m off to bed before the trolls surface from their sewers gloating over St Michael…..

  • GlasgowMag

Well Rafa does it again shame the fatboy doesn’t back him, just imagine what he could do with a bit of cash!!! Good to hear from the guys who wanted to get rid of him it certainly has gone a bit quiet from the doubters recently!! Nerves shot to pieces after that night night!!!💤💤

    • Kneebotherm8

Minimal investment and this team could actually do something………

    • Tweed Mag

The BBC are calling it a ‘tactical masterclass’ by Rafa.

      • Leazes.

I don’t think Rafa had anything to do with a poor Burnley side…. that was what the bus does……plays the percentages, and we got there ….just.

        …..There isn’t a way of turning it into a Ferrari…..its a fiat panda.

It was making the best of what you have…..

    • nufcslf

Couldn’t agree more, but still baffled as to how Joselu ever gets a kick of the ball. The bloke is just plain shyt.

  • Superdooperhooper

Papering over the cracks. Boycott wolves

    • nufcslf

      Yip.

    • Wezza

No need for January spend. Next instalment of TV money goes into MASH Holdings. We survive relegation, FCB takes more TV money and repeat. What is the point.

      • Superdooperhooper

That’s it seventeenth and survival. But some seem happy with that

  • 5floorshigh

some frustrating missed chances kept the nerves shredding but 3 great away points
