Two Newcastle players were conspicuous by their absence at training today.

The club releasing photos of the squad training ahead of the Bournemouth match.

Only 48 hours before the match, the images showed Elias Sorensen had been called up to train with the first team squad.

The 19 year old in tremendous form, having already scored 13 times for the reserves this season.

Altogether, 21 Newcastle players could be seen in the photos, but two first teamers were missing.

As well as longer term injured Florian Lejeune and Jamie Sterry, both Yoshiri Muto and Jonjo Shelvey were missing.

After picking up injuries on Saturday, it is looking all but certain they won’t make the Bournemouth game.

However, Jamaal Lascelles was involved today in the pre-match preparations despite also being forced off against Watford.

  • Paul Patterson

Looks doubtful. I’d put the young lad on the bench ..

  • Kenny

Jonjo & Muto were never going to be risked & give Sorensen a shot in part of the game.

    • Mike D

Better than bringing on, or indeed starting with the Hoss.

      • Kenny

        To true

  • Billmag

Put the boy on the bench it will give him some experience, it won’t do him any harm.

    • Wezza

Yep only way to improve him is for some game time. Nothing to lose.

      • Down Under Mag

He would come on, score with his first touch and get snapped up in January knowing our luck lol

        • mentalman

He’ll come on score a goal and never be near the first team again

  • Simon Ritter

Consensus seems to be that we played better once Shelvey and Muto were forced off because of injury on Saturday. Let’s hope that improvement continues from the start against Bournemouth, who looked distinctly unlucky to lose to Man Ure.

    • Ashley-out

we played better as Shelvey was injured in the 5th minute & played on until half time, if you think we have a better midfielder you are delusional.

      • Pezza

The problem with Shelvey s is we don’t have another creative outlet when it’s him and Diame. At some point, both Ki and JJS will play together but Rafa hasn’t the vonfidconf right now.

        • Wor Lass

“vonfidconf” – is that another one of your obscure German philosophical states of mind, Bobby?

          • Rich Lawson

I’ve got one of their phones.

          • Wor Lass

            Nice one!

        • mentalman

Its up to the manager and coaches to adapt our play to utilise our best player to the best of his ability, they currently sit back and watch the same thing not work over and over again

          • Pezza

Rafa works by method, he’s not going to entertain a maveric. I always find the idea that Rafa wants a number 10 an idealists’ notion as he doesn’t like them. Hamsik was the only one he’s had, he put him in a straight jacket

      • Simon Ritter

I don’t dispute that Shelvey is our best midfielder. Just as Jimmy Greaves was England’s best goalscorer in ’66. Sometimes, a player does not fit with the rest of the team. Would you want to build the team around Shelvey? He has wonderful skills but serious shortcomings.

  • DeadToiler

    Give Sorensen a game

  • Ba ba.

Tbh not bothered play Ki and I guess perez

  • Ba ba.

Give sorrenson a shout at least on the bench.. 👍

  • Philippines

in the famous Busby Babes of the 1950’s Bobby Charlton was 20 when he was playing for Man U. Ken Morgans 17 on his debut, Duncan Edwards 21, Eddie Colman 21, Albert Scanlon Lian Whelan and David Pegg 22. I hope we see a couple of our young lads get a chance soon.

    • Peaky

Even in more modern times the likes of Rooney & Milner started really young and it certainly didn’t do either of those any harm….I suppose the best current example is Foden at Man City…

      • Ashley-out

if Sorensen is any good we will sell Joselu, the fee should be enough for Mike to take the team for another pizza

        • Peaky

Do you think there’ll ever be a statue at SJP of The Hoss…?? 😳😳

          • Dillon Tovak

            His shin on a plinth.

          • Peaky

Just burst out laughing reading that in my Sainsbury’s Local….😂🤣

          • Ashley-out

God forbid no. Inspector gadget must be composing some poison pen letters or having tea & toast.

          • Rich Lawson

Only the police one that got punched !

        • Mike

someone needs to be sold as the cashman has promised a free holiday if we stay up and Butlins isnt cheap

      • Wor Lass

I seem to remember Trevor Francis banging them in for Brum in the First Division when he was 15.

        • Peaky

Saw him at SJP sometime in the 70’s….best player on the pitch by a huge margin.

          • Wor Lass

Great player but a bit windy, though.

          • Rich Lawson

He was manager of the Owls for a while in your new homeland.I had a mate from work who used to play for them in the 70’s and he would get us comp’ tickets when they played NUFC,drink in the players bar, good crack. We went to pick the tickets up from the office one sat’ and he was coming down the corridor with the blonde trophy wife in an enormous white fir coat, they blanked everybody.Arrogant t####r.Good player, but it’s along time since he was heard of,1st million pound man,but not a classy human being.

          • Peaky

Yeah he always come across as been rather vacant….and that West Country accent really didn’t do him many favours…

  • KennySamsung

Sometimes good news comes out of bad, opportunity for other players to shine. I have a good feeling about the Bournemouth game, especially about the performace and hopefully a win. Of course I’ve said all that before.

  • Wor Lass

No surprise – Rafa as good as said the other day that they wouldn`t make it. Jonjo will have had a three week break by the Burnley game and, if Ki plays well tomorrow, will know that he has competition. He should come back into the squad fully fit and raring to go. It`s good for Sorensen to be included because he knows his performances are making an impression. I can`t see him getting on unless we`re desperate or cruising in the latter stages. Everyone knows how much Rafa likes Perez so Muto missing is hardly shocking for him – and Perez does have a knack of popping up with crucial goals. All in all, assuming Ki`s performance last week wasn`t just a flash in the pan, we`re going to be about as good as we can be.

    • Peaky

Covered it all there Wor Lass…

  • mentalman

We need some good news on the injury front, hopefully the club will announce atsu is injured and unavailable for the game
