Comments from Southampton fans looking forward to today’s game.

Although ‘looking forward to’ might be taking things a little too far…

Southampton fans have seen only one Premier League home win in the past 11 months and haven’t seen any goals scored in the last four PL matches (home and away).

Today is very much a case of may the least worst team win and the comments from Southampton fans reflect that.

Their main hope is that Newcastle are even worse than them and failing that…Mark Hughes to get the sack.

Somebody mentioned to me earlier today that this is maybe a game where both teams would prefer to be playing away because of the pressure on them at this time, based on that then – advantage Newcastle United!

Southampton fans comment on their top Saints Web message board:

‘Newcastle haven’t won a game all season in the League, we know what happens here.’

Hughes seems to be in permanent denial at his press conferences, he’s been saying for weeks

“we have a very good group of players”

“we are about to turn a corner and move up the league”

“we create more chances than most other clubs”

“we just need to start converting a few more of these and we’ll be fine”.

Yet, nothing changes and today he admitted for the first time it won’t happen overnight

What an indictment of him and his coaching staff. The excuses are being lined up already for this weekend and where is the passion you’d expect from a manager with his back to the wall?

“Newcastle are a much better team that their points tally suggests, 6 of their opening games have been against top six clubs, they were 2-0 up against Man U….”

“Losing Tadic was a big blow”

“It’s very hard to get any points in the PL”

‘I’m confident we’re going to win. I really hope it’s comfortable but I have a feeling it will be a nervy tight game and McCarthy will keep us in it with a series of spectacular saves.’

‘I am confident we are underestimating Newcastle. 3-1 saints and we are going to click today. I have been right once in last 11 months.’

‘Think we are far too cautious and nervous playing at home…..can see us losing this 1-0.’

‘One hell of a lot of thoughts underestimating Newcastle. They are a better team than that…’

‘The game will be decided by a long range goal from either Shelvey or Hojbjerg.’

‘Newcastle [8] & Saints [7] top the league for most goals conceded from set pieces this season.’

‘I don’t agree it’s must win. The bottom 7 are in a relegation battle and will be most the season I’d imagine. Our best shot is getting a decent manager in. That would be a huge boost. You can’t say the same for Huddersfield, Brighton, Newcastle and maybe even Fulham. Think they have decent coaches and would struggle to get better.’

‘We haven’t been that bad recently so a win would be massive. Serious problems if we don’t.

Wont have many better chances to get the home form monkey off our back than this, though I can only see Newcastle making it very tricky for us, Rafa inspired.’

‘If we don’t win against Newcastle, Hughes should be sacked.’

‘There’s no excuses for not beating Newcastle at home. I went to the Palace v Newcastle game a few weeks back and even though Palace were poor (and we rightly beat them), Newcastle were terrible. Set up to attack (like we should be doing at home anyway), and we should easily put a couple past them.’

I think we will win, what we cannot do is lose.

I just hate Mark Hughes, miserable, talentless as a manager always full of excuses, pathetic how these people walk from one well paid job to another.

Either the bloke on the right in the picture is passing an exceedingly stubborn log or he’s from ” The League of Gentlemen” Is he local ?
