Newcastle United are currently up for sale according to Mike Ashley.
Indeed, if you believe the NUFC owner, the club has been seriously up for sale throughout this whole past decade.
Sunday morning has brought reports that a Saudi investment company are in the process of preparing a ‘huge bid’ to buy Newcastle United.
The Vavel media organisation cover sport around the World and as a media source they certainly aren’t one of the worst.
On of their journalists, Mootaz Chehade, says that whilst claims of the Saudi Royal family buying Man Utd are rubbish, this isn’t the case with a potential buyer for Newcastle.
The Vavel journalist saying that a bid is set to be made and that Mike Ashley is tempted to do a deal.
Always difficult/impossible to tell what is credible or not in the media, particularly where Mike Ashley is concerned.
This media report is the same as any other, you pay your money and take your chance on believing how credible it is.
As in any deal, you need a willing buyer AND a willing seller.
The control of the majority of Premier League clubs has changed hands in the 11+ years Mike Ashley has owned Newcastle United, so very hard to believe that there would have been no substantial interest in buying NUFC.
The problem has been a willing seller, with Mike Ashley reaping massive benefits from his association with the club, especially the role NUFC has played in giving such massive worldwide coverage/promotion to his retail empire.
With Sports Direct’s share price having crashed by more than 25% in the past three months, partly due to the campaign/protests carried out by Newcastle fans, and with yet another very real threat of a third relegation in these last nine PL seasons under Mike Ashley – due to is failure to allow proper investment in the squad.
You would hope that if indeed there is any market price bid for Newcastle United, whether from Saudi Arabia or wherever, just maybe Ashley will be thinking it is time to take his very final NUFC payout and run.
It is the hope that kills us.
“The news about an interest from the Saudi Royal family in buying Manchester United are completely false.
“In other news a Saudi investment company are currently preparing a huge bid to buy Newcastle United.
“Chairman Mike Ashley is tempted to sell.”
