Newcastle United are currently up for sale according to Mike Ashley.

Indeed, if you believe the NUFC owner, the club has been seriously up for sale throughout this whole past decade.

Sunday morning has brought reports that a Saudi investment company are in the process of preparing a ‘huge bid’ to buy Newcastle United.

The Vavel media organisation cover sport around the World and as a media source they certainly aren’t one of the worst.

On of their journalists, Mootaz Chehade, says that whilst claims of the Saudi Royal family buying Man Utd are rubbish, this isn’t the case with a potential buyer for Newcastle.

The Vavel journalist saying that a bid is set to be made and that Mike Ashley is tempted to do a deal.

Always difficult/impossible to tell what is credible or not in the media, particularly where Mike Ashley is concerned.

This media report is the same as any other, you pay your money and take your chance on believing how credible it is.

As in any deal, you need a willing buyer AND a willing seller.

The control of the majority of Premier League clubs has changed hands in the 11+ years Mike Ashley has owned Newcastle United, so very hard to believe that there would have been no substantial interest in buying NUFC.

The problem has been a willing seller, with Mike Ashley reaping massive benefits from his association with the club, especially the role NUFC has played in giving such massive worldwide coverage/promotion to his retail empire.

With Sports Direct’s share price having crashed by more than 25% in the past three months, partly due to the campaign/protests carried out by Newcastle fans, and with yet another very real threat of a third relegation in these last nine PL seasons under Mike Ashley – due to is failure to allow proper investment in the squad.

You would hope that if indeed there is any market price bid for Newcastle United, whether from Saudi Arabia or wherever, just maybe Ashley will be thinking it is time to take his very final  NUFC payout and run.

It is the hope that kills us.

“The news about an interest from the Saudi Royal family in buying Manchester United are completely false.

“In other news a Saudi investment company are currently preparing a huge bid to buy Newcastle United.

“Chairman Mike Ashley is tempted to sell.”

That’ll be due on Tuesday, they will get a bit of mileage out of this first.

  • Dillon Tovak

So Ashley is tempted to sell but a bid hasn’t been made?
The chronicle reporting Kenyon enquired about price but told to just make a bid.
This is all such rubbish 😏

    • molend

Dillon, bonny lad, he hasn’t failed. I was walking yesterday along the banks of the River Bistritsa (ye knaa, the way ye dee) and it struck me that my past criticism of Ashley (or Mike as some prefer to call him) as a poor businessman was wrong. In the last 11 years, Liverpool, for example has gone from strength to strength- as a club. In the same period, what with free advertising, transfers, advertising, season tickets, advertising. T.V money, advertising, parachute money, advertising and kit sales from his tat shops and advertising, he himself has been tremendously successful . He’d have to be daft to sell for anything less than an enormous amount- given that he couldn’t care a shinker’s about the club

  • Steven05

    I’m tired

  • Big Hairy Man

Best not to spend any money in January then Mike.

    • Paul Patterson

That’s exactly why these stories are concocted by his PR. A plain glass window would be harder to see through ..

  • GToon

I don’t mind if they don’t buy our club. I’d prefer it if they treated “Mike the thief and lair” to a bit of Saudi style justice.

    • Dillon Tovak

Imagine Ashley going there for a meeting and asking for a triple vodka and pint of carling 🗡

      • Paul Patterson

        Attention all fireplaces 😱😱

    • Dave Pattinson

Mm, maybe a nice bit of dismembering would do the trick….in public.

      • molend

‘I’m sorry, Sir Humphrey, but if he’s dismembered, he wouldn’t be able to do the trick’
        ‘Shut up, Bernard’.

    • CaptainCaveman

Aye we should tell them that fat Mike has turned his back on Islam

  • Polarboy

Great, from Mike Ashley to a regime who dismember people. Not to worry though, I’m sure Mike will vomit in one of their head scarfs and scupper any such deal. If there wasn’t such a massive issue from a morality aspect, because obviously it’s slightly worse to be run by the Saudi’s than have Wonga on out shirts, then it would likely be very good for the success of the team. The Saudi’s would be using us for a bit of PR and would likely throw ludicrous amounts of money at us. All likely nonsense of course but it is international week so we may as well talk about it.

    • Son of Wilt

I agree with your morality angle, however, if that where the true template for the Premiership, then the league would have about 3 clubs in it.

      • Polarboy

I was going to say the Saudi’s are out on their own, and they probably still are slightly, but a quick look at the UAE’s human rights record and it’s clear they aren’t far behind. So yeah Man City fans really shouldn’t be all that proud of their success. We can talk about the damage corporate power, Wall Street etc do, but I’d far rather the club were owned by American interests.

  • Superdooperhooper

Load of cobblers . Who in their right mind would buy nufc now without insisting on relegation clauses (which ashley won’t accept )? If results don’t pick up over the next five games we could be cut adrift by the time the transfer window opens

    • HarryHype59

The club seems to suffer ground hog day syndrome. The refusal to budge over relegation clauses stopped the takeover last season. It will be the main barrier in getting rid of the FCB this season. Fatman’s insistence on skimming £20m profit in the last window could see us relegated by Christmas.

  • Hughie

Can people not read??- the story relates to a Saudi investment company not the regime.

    • Polarboy

Where do you think the Billions going through that company come from?

  • Hughie

    Black gold man of course!!

  • relaxed

TFCB has no intentions at all of selling the club

Makes you wonder if it isn’t more Bishop PR – Saudi interest falls through, and then it’s “aren’t you all relieved you’ve got cuddly Mike Ashley and not that horrible lot…?”

I dont think ppl care. It could be hitlers great grand daughter and it would be a save

  • Carverlier football

In any football story involving the buying of players or clubs, the magic words “preparing to bid” can usually be translated as “aren’t going to bid because this story is somewhere between speculation and horse dung”. Alleged player sales always makes me laugh – the club is “preparing to make a bid sometime next week” – how long does to take to find the phone number of the selling club? If they were bidding they’d have done it by now…

  • MadMag83

IF there is even a fragment of truth to this, then prepare to be disappointed anyway. Who in their right mind would pay anywhere near the asking price? Bolton and Wigan are changing hands for a fraction of the price. Yes they are much smaller clubs but so are Watford and Bournemouth, Wigan have even won a cup in this century. Any potential buyer of Newcastle could find themselves in charge of a Championship club in 6 months time.

    • porciestreet

That doesn’t exactly strike me as a “Huge Bid” as reported.
Ifor it’s worth having its worth waiting for.
      Give it time…! HWTL.

  • Billmag

The Saudi’s cut heads off unscrupulous people don’t they, maybe they have fat Mike in mind for the chop.

  • BigHairyDog

FFS somebody give Ashley, Barnes and Bishop a lift to the Saudi embassy in Turkey. Just tell the fat man the Saudi’s are offering £500million if he meets in Turkey.

  • wheyayeman

Why would anyone get wind of someone preparing to bid? Yep they wouldn’t!

  • hard to take this serious when you are running SD adverts in the middle of the story…SHAME…

  • Wor Lass

If (when!) the deal doesn`t materialise maybe we could chip in and pay the air fare for the Fat Barsteward to visit the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

  • Mrkgw

Could be something in this. Ashley’s interest in the club has suddenly upped again and seen him return to St James. Could be brinksmanship so as to bring the buyer in. Fingers crossed.

  • Tony

If anyone truley believes that standing outside the Eldon Square branch on Sports Direct andshouting abuse at the Saturday kids has made Sports Directs share price fall, they’re thick as anything. Seriously all you need to do is stop going to games. That’s it.

    • nufcslf

    • StevieB

      Bang on

    • Mxpx

Completely agree if anything they’re generating free publicity

  • Your mum

Hmmm Saudi’s lots of money but lack ethics. A bit like a bigger version of Ashley.

I have lived and worked in Saudi and I don’t think I’d trust them any more than Fat Mick

This article had some credence until it mentioned the share price being effected by the protests. They have done nothing to the share price.

  • nufcslf

You can only f**king hope, can’t you. The truth is knowing nothing will change at all.

  • StevieB

I’ll believe it when it flashes up on my phone .

  • HarryHype59

According to the Daily Mail (I know) the Saudis only want Man Yoonited.

  • Sickandtired

Makes sense in a PL way. Why buy ManU for close to £2 billion, when someone rich enough like them can buy us and do another City?
The Geopolitics certainly would fit as Saudi’s hate Qatar. Or maybe they just want to lure Ashley into one of their Embassy’s …

  • Shipcote Willy

No chance. Ashley does not want to sell, he’s making too much money, and even if someone offered him way over the odds he would wreck any deal by demanding advertising and merchandising rights.

  • Mxpx

The bid is going to be massive probably have “£1” written the size of a whole wall then Ashley can say unrealistic Bishop can bribe him for making a “massive bid” and we can get back to getting relegated
