Comments from Southampton fans as they reflect on Saturday’s match.

A ‘gripping’ 0-0 draw against Newcastle United.

The Southampton fans all seem to agree on three things.

Firstly, that Southampton were/are rubbish.

Secondly, Newcastle were/are even worse.

Thirdly, both clubs/teams are deep in relegation trouble.

Interesting comments and they reflect the fact that frustration isn’t solely owned by Newcastle fans in the Premier League.

It is now over eight hours of football since the Saints scored a PL goal and they still have only one PL home victory in these past 11 months.

Enjoy.

Southampton fans comment on their top Saints Web message board:

‘Thought it was amusing that some of our lot were clapping the anti-Mike Ashley chants; yet there was not a peep about our own ownership.’

‘My first league game back at St Mary’s since giving up my ST after the Puel season, won’t be rushing back.

Drab football, sh.. atmosphere, handing out clappers for fu.. sake. Who would want to buy a half and half scarf of that rubbish, roll on the championship.

We are staring relegation in the face and I don’t see a saviour on the horizon.’

‘Cardiff, Huddersfield and Newcastle?

As someone said before, when the wolf is chasing you, you don’t have to out run it. You just have to out run (three) fat kids.’

‘Watching MOTD and I think our saving grace could be that Huddersfield, Fulham, Newcastle and Cardiff look consistently dreadful this season. Someone could stay up with 30 points at this rate.’

‘Too much being made of our ‘defensive’ performance yesterday. We were up against a team who didn’t attack us, didn’t push us, didn’t commit and run at us.

We didn’t have to defend. If we had conceded yesterday then we should have just given up and gone home, given that they didn’t really want to score.’

‘Highlight of Saturday was getting home firing up the Woodburner and pouring a glass of Red.

I have seen some crud over many years of watching Saints, but that was bouncing along the bottom (the odd moment when football broke out being the top of a bounce!). Newcastle were woeful and we weren’t far behind.’

Newcastle didn’t even bother to attack, soon as we play half decent side, Hoedt will become a liability once more. Mess.’

“It honestly wouldn’t have looked out of place in League 2, two utterly appalling teams, we were just slightly less appalling than they were.

The fact there are still four teams below us shows how garbage this league really is.’

‘We are the 2018 version of Sunderland. Bloated squad of overpaid average players. Relegation looks likely. Two or three seasons at a lower level to sort out the financial mess. Owner needs to sell. Top brass need to be fired. Depressing.’

‘We had more than enough chances to win and ridiculous number of shots, albeit too few on target.

Only positive, which is a real one rather than a synthetic one I think, is that I said a few weeks back when we were regularly shipping 2 or 3 goals a match that we would get nowhere until we start chalking up clean sheets.’

‘Terrible performance. Utter rubbish. Newcastle were there for the taking.’

‘Could anyone provide a brief few sentences on how Newcastle set up and played?’

‘Like a pub team. Same as us. Worst two premier league teams on one pitch at the same time. The board are asleep at the wheel and hoping three times are worse than us is where we are. Shambles.’

‘Newcastle were awful. We should have won. Saints defenders were comfortable, including Hoedt and Stephens. I’m struggling to remember a moment when Newcastle seriously troubled McCarthy and the defenders.’

‘Hated that game, but by the end we were unlucky.’

Hard to disagree with the comments. Two poor teams on show. We didn’t even manage a shot on target in 90 mins of football. That’s criminal considering Southampton are a poor side aswel. Not a great advert for the PL. The only positive is that Ashley is now attending games and can see first hand where his greed and cheap ways have gotten him. Whether he actually cares, I’am very much doubt it

    • Leazes.

      Its not greed its malice…..

……and it wouldn’t make one iota of difference if he attended matches, he didn’t buy the club for footballing reasons… nothing ‘positive in his attending at all….we want him out completely!

      • HarryHype59

It is also stupidity! The EPL TV money income streams (and the value of this club) are at risk due to a lack of any strategic medium/ long term vision.

        In a helicopter

    • TheFatController

Ashley likes to play victim, he’s turning up now not due to the bad form but due to the bad press.

He now has BBC and Sky highlighting his inadequacies so turning up is to us what the press release about having to fire his chairman is to SD, an attempt to make out he’s being hard done to and deflect from his many failings.

No one understands him, he’d tell anyone that’d listen. Sane people would be thinking ‘I think we all understand you perfectly, you selfish, opportunist, bitter, bizarre fool’

  • Ashley-out

Rafa went there not to lose, job done when you look at Newcastle`s past record down there

  • Wor Lass

I like the comment about outrunning the fat kids (are we allowed to say that nowadays?). That`s exactly the point.

  • panther

cant disagree with any of that except the last comment

  • MadMag83

Southampton have fallen into a similar trap to Newcastle. The ownership thought they had hit upon a sure thing, sell your best players for top whack and replace them with a cheaper alternative based on stats on a spreadsheet. Fatty tried the same with the French imports. Sooner or later if will catch you out, the quality just isn’t there in great supply on the cheap.

    • HarryHype59

He is still doing it now! Muto is a cheap Japanese import.

  • HarryHype59

Both are now “Zombie” clubs stealing a living out of the Premiership. No ambition apart from finishing 17th so the owners collect the bumper cash.

  • KennySamsung

I can’t understand why Ashley would want to put himself through this hell because money on its own doesn’t make up for the agony of watching what he is responsible for… a god dam awful team who have nothing left to give at the moment.

I still maintain its personal. Remember the V sign ?

      Great username.

One of us may find some form, and someone else may drop like a stone, but right now it definitely looks like three from us, Cardiff, Fulham, Southampton and Huddersfield. Still being in touch with them, having a better goal difference, and having got the big boys out of the way would be cause for optimism if only we didn’t look completely bereft of confidence. A win by any means is vital, and might, just might, kick start the season – but it’s difficult to see where it’s coming from. We’re due a slice of luck, too…

    • Danimal

Like Crystal “two penalties” Palace. That kind of luck? Ten pens last season for Palace vs our one (missed of course). We’ve already missed this season’s pen. We even managed to only get three in the promotion season when we were the league’s top scorers (something like 14 pens for nearest rivals Brighton). Having said all that, there’s only one bit of luck I’m interested in…Ashley out.

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

It’s getting to the point where there is not much left to say that hasn’t already been said.
Hopefully apathy will eventually kill off The Ashley Regime because there has to come a time when 50,000 hardy souls call time on watching that cure for Insomnia !

  • Andy Mac

“The board (aka Fatman) are asleep at the wheel and hoping three teams are worse than us” is where we are. Shambles.

Couldnt have put it better Mr Saints fan. Owners come and go. Sadly Leicester’s has gone but ours is still here ? There is no justice in this world
