Paul Merson gives his verdict on Newcastle United ‘Cup Final’

Only a couple of hours to go until Newcastle kick off against Brighton and Paul Merson sees this as a massive game.
At least for Newcastle that is.
Brighton would no doubt happily take a point if offered now, that would give them nine points from nine games and keep them mid-table.
Seen as they haven’t won in their last 17 away PL matches and only picked up five points on the road since November 2017 it’s not surprising.
However, for Newcastle United it is a very different matter.
Anything less than a win and Rafa’s team will stay in the relegation zone.
Anything less than a win for NUFC, and if results go the wrong way elsewhere, things could look very messy at the bottom of the table for Newcastle United.
Paul Merson describes it as a ‘Cup Final’ for the club and very difficult to disagree.
Mike Ashley blocking proper realistic investment in the NUFC squad, leading us to this – our cup final at home to Brighton in October.
What a club.
The only positive is that Paul Merson predicts Newcastle to win this ‘cup final’, lets hope he is proved right for once.

Paul Merson talking to Sky Sports:
“I watched Newcastle three weeks ago against Leicester and they had one shot on target from 60 yards.
“Then they go to Manchester United and they should have got something from the game.
“They’ll be kicking themselves that they didn’t get a positive result at Old Trafford.
“That defeat will have hurt but they can take positives from what was, on the whole, a good performance.
“Brighton are not the best side away from the Amex Stadium.
“ If I’m being totally honest they are very, very poor on the road.
“For that reason I’m going to side with Newcastle in what will be like a cup final for them. It’s a must win for Rafael Benitez and his side.
“Preediction is Newcastle 1 Brighton 0.”
