Mike Ashley continues to make headlines.

Just a normal few days for the once claimed ‘reclusive’ billionaire.

Sack all those in charge at House of Fraser, watch his severely underinvested football team meekly lose & stay in the relegation zone and laugh at the Newcastle supporters asking ‘where’s the money gone?’, an embarrassing court case resumes against former friend and NUFC employee Tony Jimenez which includes more drink-related accusations as evidence, then turn up for a meal on Tyneside and flick the V sign at Newcastle fans when leaving the restaurant.

No wonder Mike Ashley claims that true entrepreneurs such as him, don’t get the respect they deserve…

After the PR stunt which was the meal with Rafa and the players on Wednesday night, Ashley and his accompanying minions left the Ponteland restaurant.

With Mike Ashley’s PR people having arranged for numerous media to be there to cover the PR stunt, their coverage alerted a number of Newcastle fans to be there in time for the billionaire’s exit.

Scuttling into the back of a people carrier, Mike Ashley was once again serenaded with ‘Where’s the money gone?’ and replied with a childish Peter Kay style V sign from the safety of his vehicle with a police presence, as the Newcastle supporters continued to torment him.

Like all arrogant bullies, when not part of a staged PR managed appearance, the facade is quickly stripped away and the real person exposed.

Even Mike Ashley’s hopeless PR people recognised that the club owner’s V sign gesture to fans was a nightmare, making the whole meal stunt now a negative.

In order to try and retrieve the situation, Ashley’s people felt they had to make their own statement about the NUFC owner’s behaviour.

The saying goes that if you are going to lie then make sure it is a big one, the Mike Ashley PR statement response claiming that not only did he NOT ‘give a V sign’ but that on Saturday ‘Anybody who saw Match of the Day at the weekend will also be aware that Mike is actually very respectful in his reactions to fans.’

Incredible. After that Leicester game, even the national media picked up on Mike Ashley smirking and laughing as the Newcastle fans asked ‘Where’s the money gone?’, whilst he was also shown laughing as the final whistle went on yet another defeat for his cheaply assembled team.

Mike Ashley ‘very respectful in his reactions to fans’….so that is why he sent his people in to tear down the Kevin Keegan and Rafa Benitez banners hanging outside the Gallowgate End on Saturday?

The Mail:

‘A spokesman for Mr Ashley said:

“Mike did not give a V sign to fans.

“It is obvious from the accompanying photos that he is smiling and enjoying the evening.

“Anybody who saw Match of the Day at the weekend will also be aware that Mike is actually very respectful in his reactions to fans.”

Whilst they were on, I’m surprised that Mike Ashley and his PR team didn’t also add that:

Rafa Benitez had been delighted with the backing of the club’s owner this summer.

The official NUFC Fans Forum sees the club not refuse to answer any questions, approaching everything with goodwill, and that they get the minutes out in double quick time.

That the state of the art training complex promised five years ago will be ready any time soon.

The Academy is producing countless first team players thanks to Mr Ashley.

That the care and maintenance of St James Park is an example to every other Premier League club.

Just to make readers of The Mag aware, I’ve just won the Euromillions and I’m about to jet off around the world with my new lass Elle Macpherson.
    See you all later.

    • Alex

Gawd, your lass is cracking on a bit, isn’t she?

      • Paul Patterson

Don’t care. She keeps calling my name from the bedroom while I’m counting all this money. It’s getting a bit annoying to be fair. Might go and see what she wants.. 😕

How long does it take to count £10?

      • Leazes.

No they did a damage limitation piece.

        • Dillon Tovak

They’ve got a nice story about how Rafa needs to up his game and one little line about Newcastle fans thinking he did a V sign but they clear it up with Ashley’s statement.
          That’s good then…🤨

          • Kenny

I looked a couple of hours ago & there was nothing about the V sign.

        • Cockneytrev

Why not have a protest outside the chronicle?
          Could the ignore that?

  • Steven05

Like most of us have said for a while, with him it is NOT just about money. For years he has made decisions and acted in a way that serves no purpose but to just p!ss people off

    • Kneebotherm8

Actually it is just about the money……and if he psses people off in the process then that’s secondary…

  • Ashley-out

    Just fukingdie

Fired the ‘V’ when the vehicle was pulling away lol. I’d have a begrudging respect, albeit tiny, if he acted the c**t while standing his ground – even if he say paused and launched the fingers, before jumping in the back seat. Such a sly, coward this guy is when placed on the spot and the PR veil is lifted. Not surprising act either, from an oxygen thief who allegedly didn’t repay monies borrowed from his parents (which financed his very first store), and then basically ghosted them.

  • JohnnyH

What happened last night should have been the tipping point for our local journalistic champions to get off the fence and get behind the Supporters and the Magpie Group.

Ashley should be getting it from them, instead They’re letting him off with it.

What price journalistic integrity I wonder?

    • Kenny

Schitt scared in case he bans them again.

    • Leazes.

Some journalists were tipped off by Bishop and the Chronicle was one…..we know that because they ran a live blog of people arriving at an unnamed venue, in unnamed town, somewhere in Northumberland.

Wasn’t hard to find as they switched restaurant at the last minutes but gave away the location in the photos…. the fools….and people on social media spread it quickly.

What is Douglas doing is what I’d like to know/….. playing footsie with this bunch of bloody crooks after 11 years?

      • JohnnyH

After last nights abject failure to criticise Ashley’s insult, the only reasonable conclusion is that they’ve both been bought off.

        • Leazes.

Always known Ryder was a scouse boot licker you just have to look at the article he did on the new coach Neil Redfern….. covered him in saliva.

    • Jezza

As far as he is concerned everything is rosy. The way he sees it is he’s making lots of money out of our club as well as getting free worldwide exposure for his core sweat shop business so what’s the problem.

No Journalists were inside…. bit of disparity there!

  • Mxpx

Has anyone ever heard the phrase “there’s no such thing as bad publicity” I think this is exactly what Mike wants as everyone complaining mentions those two precious words “sports direct”

    • Leazes.

Only if it can be twisted into good publicity, this is where people like Douglas and Ryder enter the fray. But Gerald Ratner, Edwina Curry, Lord Lucan, certainly couldn’t twist it…..Lucan tried ……. its a daft phrase really.

  • BigHairyDog

Seems Bishop has been on the phone to Sky Sports News, Look North, TTTV’s NE Tonight and the Chron. His PR stunt that ended up being a nightmare will get out, when there’s photo evidence it can’t be ignored no matter how many favours Bishop man tries to call in!!!

  • Tino o

The chronicle asking did he stick his fingers up? They should be all over this disgrace of a local paper hold your heads in shame!

  • GToon

Hahahaha. What a funny bloke he is. Isn’t it hilarious how he denied it. He will be telling us Rafa can have every penny to spend in January next.

  • Wezza

    No. Just no.
I predicted the PR team would try and salvage PR stunt gone wrong and have made themselves look even more foolish then their original PR stunt.
