Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.
No doubts as to Newcastle’s man of the match was, Martin Dubravka (7.8) making some excellent saves and giving his defence confidence by coming for crosses, although his kicking was yet again suspect.
In front of the keeper, Federico Fernandez (6.6) was once more Newcastle’s best defender.
In fact the visiting defence were the next highest rated after Dubravka, with Yedlin (5.9) giving a spirited performance.
Whilst Dummett and Lascelles were next best with 5.7 each, as the defensive duo were committed as always.
After that it is very slim pickings for the most forward six players, no surprise when your team manages not a single shot on target.
Jonjo Shelvey (5.7) shared the same mark as Lascelles and Dummett but his impact was blunted, partly due to him not being on top of his game AND the failings of those around him.
The very worst was Ayoze Perez (2.1) with yet another feeble offering, whilst Diame (3.1) and Kenedy (3.6) weren’t far behind.
Muto (4.7) and Ritchie (4.6) not quite as bad but neither offered much.
The club’s/team’s overall failings become all too obvious when the subs were introduced, Atsu (2.7) and Ki (3.6) only making the situation worse.
Rondon (4.1) was clearly nowhere near fit and he is the only wildcard we have left, hoping a return to full fitness and form, can spark a difference going forward in vital games which kick off with Watford and Bournemouth at St James Park
