Newcastle 0 Brighton 1 – Instant United fan/writer reaction to Saturday’s defeat

Newcastle 0 Brighton 1  – Saturday 20 October 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.
Newcastle going down to their fifth home defeat in a row.
Only two points from a possible 27 putting NUFC rock bottom of the table.
Jamie Swan:
“What a celebratory feeling on the now almost torturous anniversary of NUFC 5 Man Utd 0.
“The ghost of good times past makes you realise what can be.
“But has never been a wake up call for our own tight-tw.t faced Scrooge.
“We are rock bottom, flat on confidence and creating an unwanted historical record of worst ever start to a season.
“Not going to lie, I’m a pretty optimistic bloke but it doesn’t look very rosy does it?
“Get mortal, go nuts, sleep in the shed, spew in a plant pot, urinate in your sock drawer, eat a kebab for breakfast… all of these are better than pondering about Ashley’s NUFC.
“Goodnight Vienna.”
Nat Seaton:
“The stats might show that we were unlucky or that their keeper had a good game.
“Reality though is a really poor performance lacking quality and at times urgency.
“Beaten by the weakest team to play here this season – sums up the seriousness of our situation…”

David Punton:
“A desperate state of affairs exists at our club.
“These are dark days again for all fans of Newcastle Utd.
“Winless. Lacking in goals, luck and strategic leadership.
“This reverse takes us to the bottom of the pile. The scenario has shades of the Mackems under David Moyes, just week after week the wins not arriving.
“There wasn’t much fight in that second half as our transfer window ‘spending’ comes back to haunt us.
“I’m not bothered what fans of other sides say, this mess was created by a summer that sucked the momentum away from that tenth place finish. It’s killed the morale of fans, manager and players.
“In football the manager is accountable too. Rafa isn’t getting much joy is he? Some will call for his head. Some won’t.
“Either way, what we can agree is that we’re very likely to be relegated for a third time under Mr Ashley’s ownership. He must be so proud he’s killed our club.
“As for the players. They need to wake up. As the rot sets in I fear a few could be texting their agents tonight looking for January sales.
“But hey, at least Hughton stuck it to the regime that sacked him.”
Toon Bano:
“We. Are. Going. Down.
“Say. We. Are. Going. Down.”
Paul Patterson:
“The linesman on the EastSstand side should never get a game again.
“What an absolute disgrace.
“On the field, neither should Perez or Kenedy.
“This club is as good as relegated.”
