The 1st team needs a shake up, the likes of Slomo, Perez need to be benched.
But look, who do we replace them with. the squads 💩

    • Clarko

Imagine spending €142.65m and still having Perez and Diame as guaranteed starters…

      • Kenny

see your mate the fat [email protected] on that 1

        • Clarko

          Ashley didn’t spend the €142.65m, Benitez did…

          • Keeganontherebound

You’re either an idiot or being deliberately obtuse. A good chunk of that was spent to get us out of the championship. You need different players for the premiership and he’s been starved of cash since winning promotion. Do you really think he would have signed Ki and Rondon if he was still at Liverpool, Napoli or Real Madrid?

          • Wor Lass

“You’re either an idiot or being deliberately obtuse.” He`s both.

          • Toontaff

Imagine, some PL teams have spent that on 1 or 2 players, not in 3 years, whilst recouping far more!

          • Taz

Don’t waste your time on C the kidisaprizecockhead

          • Billmag

            😀😀😀

          • Clarko

‘A good chunk of that was spent to get us out of the championship. You need different players for the premiership’

You need good players for the Premier League, Benitez hasn’t bought any.

‘Do you really think he would have signed Ki and Rondon if he was still at Liverpool, Napoli or Real Madrid?’

He bought Robbie Keane for €24.00m in 2008 for Liverpool. He bought players like Alberto Aquilani (€20.00m), Ryan Babel (€17.25m), Fernando Morientes (€9.25m), Jermaine Pennant (€9.10m), Andrea Dossena (€9.00m) and Josemi (€3.00m). So yes, I do.

‘As part of the deal to secure Rafa Benítez’s number one transfer target’ – NUFC Official site

          • Toontaff

You’re on form, today! Can you recommend any meds?

          • Clarko

No meds, you could try going back to school and getting an education, something tells me that still would do you much good though…

          • Toontaff

Irony? Read your reply and explain, because it’s nonsense!

          • Keeganontherebound

Clearly you are actually both. Citing the NUFC website as evidence shows you are an idiot. And you’re also being deliberately obtuse as a) you could come up with a list of debatable signings for any manager and b) most people would agree Dubravka and Lejeune for instance are good players.

          • Clarko

How is citing the Official NUFC Website, the primary source, make me an ‘idiot’? Would you like some other sources? Here you go:

‘Salomon Rondon remains Rafa Benitez’s No 1 summer target – despite renewed links with Nicolai Jorgensen and Alassane Plea’ – Shields Gazette

‘Rondon was Rafa Benitez’s first choice striker this summer’ – Independent

‘The club was pleased to secure the manager’s number one transfer target, Salomón Rondón – and also Yoshinori Mutō, a player the manager wanted in January 2018’ – Fans Forum Minutes

You asked me if I thought Benitez would sign Rondon and Ki if he was at Liverpool. I provided a list that suggests that he would. On a side note there is nothing ‘debatable’ about those signings, they were bad, like the signings he’s made for Newcastle.

Sure you can have Dubravka as a good signing/player but Lejeune? A player who has 24 appearances in 481 days and looked shaky in some of those appearances. Bad signing. What about the other 21 players that Benitez has signed? Why did you only name 2 players? I think that says it all…

          • Keeganontherebound

You’re an idiot if you don’t understand the club website is a mouthpiece for Ashley and if you don’t get that if Rafa did indeed want Rondon it was because he thought it was the best he could do with the resources available. As for Lejeune, so you expect the manager to be clairvoyant and know if a player is going to get injured too? Fernandez looks good as well. Yedlin and Ritchie are solid premiership players. Signing Gayle for the championship was a masterstroke. Muto looks promising. The jury’s still out on others and there’s been a few duff signings. Given the resources he’s done more than OK.

          • Clarko

‘You’re an idiot if you don’t understand the club website is a mouthpiece for Ashley and if you don’t get that if Rafa did indeed want Rondon it was because he thought it was the best he could do with the resources available.’

Ignoring information that you don’t like. That makes you an idiot.

‘As for Lejeune, so you expect the manager to be clairvoyant and know if a player is going to get injured too?’

Doesn’t matter, he hasn’t played, bad signing.

‘Fernandez looks good as well. Yedlin and Ritchie are solid premiership players.’

No, they’re not. You might think they look good in our team, that doesn’t make them good Premier League players, which is one of the reasons we find ourselves 19th. (If you want me to go into more detail as to why these are bad signings just ask, I have the stats/reasoning to prove it)

‘Signing Gayle for the championship was a masterstroke’

            Keyword being ‘Championship’.

‘The jury’s still out on others’

It’s really not, the jury is very much in. We’re 19th.

          • Keeganontherebound

Never mind the stats and ‘reasoning’ about the players. How about you let us have your shortlist of managers who you think a) Would do better than Rafa in the circumstances and b) Would actually touch the job with a bargepole.

          • Clarko

You can’t change the subject and start a new argument after you’ve been proved wrong in the previous one without acknowledging/admitting that you were wrong. Benitez has wasted €142.65m and should be held responsible for it.

          • Keeganontherebound

In other words, you can’t think of anyone. Which shows your criticisms are completely over the top.

          • Clarko

No, it’s a different subject, a different argument, the fact that you couldn’t counter any of my criticism shows that the criticism is justified.

          • Billmag

He doesn’t like Rafa because he was instrumental in Liverpool winning more European Cups than his beloved Manure.

      • 45709

        Imagine being pathetic… oh…

  • Dillon Tovak

I think if Perez and Diame were replaced with decent players then this team wouldn’t be in the trouble that it is.
When you have an underperforming Shelvey and Diame in the midfield the whole team does nothing, Shelvey takes the ball off the defenders toes but then 9 times out of ten just plays a simple ball a defender could perform. The other one time out of ten he pumps it long where we have no players.
Diame is just a liability and plods around.
Perez infuriates me because he is an attacker, someone who has trained all week to get shots away and create chances. Rafa shows faith in him and regularly starts him and then Saturday comes and when Perez gets an opportunity to get past the final defender and get a shot on goal, he dawdles and passes it sideways.

    • Kenny

      spot on Dillon

    • Phil Yare

put it this way, if perez and diame were playing against us i’d be quite happy

    • mentalman

I think its more a case of shelvey playing the ball to where our strikers should be rather than where they are. He sees the space better than our strikers do and expects them to make the runs to exploit it. Unfortunately it rarely works.

The commentators on the stream i watched were constantly saying shelvey needed to be further forward. However to do this would either require our cb’s to bring the ball out of defence or diame to do it and neither happens

      • Wor Lass

Shows how important Lejeune was in the second half of last season.

        • mentalman

Lejeune made a huge difference last season and is sorely missed, we need him back in the team. Having said that Fernandez has probably been our best defender so far so could we see the captain being dropped.

    • Wor Lass

That`s a good description of a player with zero confidence.

      • Dillon Tovak

He should have a degree of confidence.
He finished last season strongly and gets the continuing backing from his manager.

    • Billmag

      Well said 👍.

  • 5floorshigh

the players deserve full marks for supporting the fans protests by boycotting matches

  • Hughie

Transfers are often a lottery. Look at Sanchez at MU. As repeatedly said most of this squad got us to 10th last yr. Beniez has made two massive blunders this season. First by publicly denouncing the team as inadequate- how do you think that makes them feel- and second inexplicably playing hopeless Perez. People laud Perez for scoring a few taps ins last season but he has never beebeanywhere near PL standard for me and 0 in 10 this year with few assists says it all. Dont agree with cricism of Shelvey or Diame. They get through a lot of good work, but have no outlet in front of them.

    • fistsofsteel2

10th? 10pts above the relegation zone and 24pts from the top 5. 11th and 12th placed teams also had 44pts. If we’d lost the last game of the season, or another game, we’d have finished in 14th position – 7pts above relegation.
I wish people wouldn’t harp on about finishing 10th last season as being some amazing achievement, or that it makes Rafa a genius.
      Rafa OUT.

  • fistsofsteel2

The players seem to have the attitude ‘just turn up and keep taking the money’. Appearance money.
Rafa on a £4million salary – maybe he’s doing the same?

    • Rich Lawson

Hard to believe they have not been inspired by the ” holiday” offer for staying up ? Maybe ”Mike” could get them a cruise on Philip Green’s liner,he must be one of the few pal’s he (both) has left ?

      • fistsofsteel2

inspired by the ” holiday” offer

Yeah! It’s laughable isn’t it……as if they can’t afford a holiday themselves. It’s not like they’ll be heading off for 10 nights in Albufeira on Easyjet. Bloody hell – Joselu is paid £50k per week…..I imagine he can pay for his own holidays. He’s been on one since coming to Newcastle anyway.

        • Rich Lawson

Love to know what he makes of the snow,we should have Butlin’s as the shirt sponsor next season !

          • fistsofsteel2

It’s not a holiday they need. They should be doing ‘community service’ for crimes against football.

  • Mike

they have given up …….Question Perez what is the point?
