Mike Ashley isn’t happy.

The PR stunt on Wednesday night ended with the wrong kind of headlines.

Both fans and media astonished to see the owner lose his cool outside the restaurant and make a V with his fingers as Newcastle fans chanted ‘Where’s the money gone?’, only for Thursday night to see the NUFC owner release an official statement (see below) saying that to suggest he made a V-Sign was ‘inaccurate and irresponsible.’

The video and photo below make clear that his fingers did form a ‘V’ but was it a V-Sign?

Mike Ashley/Newcastle United Official Statement:

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley would like to put the record straight in relation to press reporting of events following a dinner that he attended on Wednesday evening with Rafa Benítez and the players.

Mike Ashley said:

“I did not make a ‘V-sign’ to anyone.

“To suggest otherwise is both inaccurate and irresponsible.

“The matter is in the hands of our legal team and they will be contacting relevant newspaper editors in due course.

“It is hugely disappointing, given the reason why we set up the meeting, that certain elements of the media are trying to undermine the club by creating a story out of nothing.”

Such a redeeming photo. Looks like some kind of flabby deep sea fish that’s just greedily eaten it’s offspring because it thought it couldn’t survive another season…

  • Realist

Who cares. The little divys who turned up at rialtos deserved more than a 2 finger salute. There are ways to go about things but this is just a bunch of sh1tbags trick.

    • Toontaff

      Did you enjoy your pizza?

    • Cockneytrev

Do you not feel sick ? Licking Ashleys hoop👅👅👅?

  • Waxi

Thing is most of the press are saying that the FCB told the players the club will not be sold this year but all week the press have been saying he told Kenyon make me an offer. I hope it’s the latter and he foxtrot oscar.

  • Leazes.

Excellent…. We’ll find out how many Mackems visit this site!

What is the point of that you bonehead Porter?

    • Steven05

      sunderland mustn’t have played tonight

      • Leazes.

We’re trying to get a Unified campaign and this prat is opening the door to division, If you do any poll you will get less than 100% even if the question is do you think 2+2=4! especially on sites like this.

The problem faced by the Chronicle with the same type of polls was that the trolls found a way in and used to try to bend Ryders opinion… very dangerous ground! Those polls manipulated by mackems and trolls made his political stance what it is, his choice.

If you look at Ryder’s foot comments you will see the hand of fleckman everywhere…. he’s here too despite banning the tw*t…. under the name ‘realist’…. he’s a crank.

Speaking of which, he posted below.

    • Paul Patterson

Around 5% of the voters at current count . .

  • Carverlier football

The media is undermining the club by NOT reporting it…

  • Andy Mac

A two fingered salute by the Fatman to Newcastle United fans ? Maybe this is just the defining moment when ALL of the Toon Army realise the Fatman is taking the plss. More than that he’s taking the plss out of you and the club you love !

    • Carverlier football

He’s taking more than the plss, he’s taking lots of money out via commercial revenue contracts with SD and free advertising space…

  • Ron

Of course he gave the 2 fingered salute, he hadn’t had enough to drink, otherwise he would have vomited all over them instead.

  • Paul Patterson

It was one of those childish V-signs that you make to someone and then protest innocence.
Basically, the greedy r’shole hasn’t grown up.

    • Leazes.

It was cowardly and small and snidey!

      • Andy Mac

So what did you expect ? He’s a cowardly small minded snidey individual

        • Leazes.

          True !

The clip has hit 200k now

  • GTD3

A lofted two fingered salute to Ashley the next time we serenade him at St James perhaps….?

    • Leazes.

James Finlayson…Laurel and Hardy fan…. excellent actor great facial expressions and timing.

  • Wezza

“It is hugely disappointing, given the reason why we set up the meeting”

Yes a PR stunt that went wrong because you cannot help yourself Mike.
You were heckled and asked where the money was – both with good cause. A phone was right at your window and you did the V sign. To suggest otherwise is wholly inaccurate, irresponsible and you look absolutely pathetic.
This man is taking the biscuit.
There really isn’t any need for a vote (which trolls rig) he did it, no buts ifs or maybes. Let us not forget he has been proven in court to be a liar and purposely deceived the fans.

  • BigHairyDog

I see the workers at St James Park and Sports Direct have been voting.

    • Kenny

      The trolls

  • Wezza

“In the hands of our legal team and they will be contacting relevant newspaper editors in due course.”

Yes to bully them and threaten them with ground expulsion?
There is video evidence of his gesture. This would be laughed out of court.
Notice when they are caught out they always look to threaten and bully.
    Absolute, heinous regime.

    • JohnnyH

No need to bother the chronic, thryre already under control.
      Not fit for bog roll

    • Toontaff

Bishop will be reporting them to the Met!

  • GlasgowMag

Nope he didn’t make the V sign he was just doing an impersonation of Winston Churchill but got his fingers all muddled up!!🤔🤔😂😂🤣🤣

  • Down Under Mag

Watch the video, he didn’t HAVE to move his hand at the exact time as the car started driving off past the protesting fans. His own common sense should have been to be overly self conscious of his actions if he was indeed trying to sort out the club and rebuild bridges….because from where most of us stand it was looking an awful lot like a PR exercise that ended badly because of not thinking about his body language.

At best it was a complete lack of awareness and a silly mistake to make, at worst it was utter contempt to the fans protesting his ownership of the club. If he had wanted to keep things low key then he would have just held it at St James’ Park function room and not publicised it.

The fact he thinks he can undo all the bad feelings built up over years of mismanagement and a summer of utter neglect by a cheap pizza night and a promise of a holiday if we stay up shows the man has literally no clue as to what the problem is!

    • Kenny

Be in no doubt, no ifs, no buts, it was contempt, a deliberate act.

    • FatParosite

It’s a blunder on a blunder on a blunder. Why make a big deal of legal action to draw the general public to view the evidence over and over when all you can hear in the background is a question to the biggest secret Ashley wants to keep?

  • JohnnyH

    Good poll idea;

How do you think Ashley will croak it?

    A) Natural causes

    B) At the hands of a baying angry mob

    • Carverlier football

      Pitchforks at the ready…

  • Kenny

12% think it was an innocent gesture, they must be the mugs who fork out over £60 for a Newcastle shirt. the sheep who have taken schitt off the Rat for over a decade yet move like Zombies on Barrack Rd on match days.
Season tickets holders & Mike Ashley. a match made in hell
