On Monday, we asked Newcastle fans the question: ‘Would the Newcastle United 11 who played Arsenal get instant promotion from Championship?’

Lascelles, Yedlin, Dummett, Diame, Hayden, Ritchie and Perez all played on Saturday and were also regulars in the last (2016/17) promotion season.

Against Arsenal: Martin Dubravka, Jacob Murphy, Federico Fernandez and Joselu made up the rest of the NUFC starting eleven.

As background to posing the question, I wrote:

‘I don’t think it is a bad shout to think that this is the kind of team Newcastle would have next season, if the worst happened and we dropped back into the Championship.

So would it be good enough to get instant promotion straight back to the top tier?

Obviously there is no right and wrong answer, it is just opinion.

However, interesting to see what Newcastle fans think.

Has the Championship got better or worse in the meantime and would that Newcastle United team be good enough?’

It was a very clear result and thanks to all Newcastle fans who took the time to vote:

34% Yes the Newcastle team that played Arsenal would get instant promotion from the Championship

66% No they wouldn’t

So almost exactly a two to one outcome, two thirds thinking that Newcastle team wouldn’t be good enough to get instant promotion.

I think there is definitely a feeling that Mike Ashley doesn’t realise how lucky he was both times to see Newcastle going up as champions after relegating the club twice (so far).

Lucky to have Chris Hughton and Rafa Benitez on hand to expertly guide the team/club back up.

Would it have happened with Pardew, JFK, Carver, or McClaren in charge?

So surely if its not good enough to get out of the Championship, then surely that means at least 66% think we’re down now?

I think a lot more than 66% of us are already resigned to relegation this season.

        Not looking good, is it

I think it’s easier to stay up than to get promoted but it’s not looking good

Stoke finished 9th position, the last 3 seasons before relagation.
