Over a decade after it was first attempted, Newcastle fans are still wrestling with the all important question – What will it take to get rid of Mike Ashley?

We are now in the 12th season of his rule, supporters desperate to see him sell Newcastle United.

People said they would take relegation if it meant he would walk, Mike Ashley took us down in both 2008/09 and 2015/16, but guess what – he is still here.

The owner went public in 2008 and told fans they could stop the protests because the club was up for sale and he’d shortly be leaving.

Ten years on and we can certainly add that one on to the list of lies uttered by Ashley and his people, the SD supremo clearly having no intention of willingly selling the club.

Supporters are desperate now, a very much understrength and underinvested squad that are nailed on for yet another relegation battle, no sign of Rafa signing a new contract or getting proper backing in the transfer market.

So just how far would you go in terms of making a ‘deal with the devil’ if it meant we would also see Mike Ashley sell the club.

The question we asked Newcastle fans yesterday was: ‘Deal with the devil: Would you take relegation and Rafa leaving if meant Mike Ashley sold Newcastle?’

Obviously the whole question is/was hypothetical and of course in reality far more likely Rafa would stay on under different owners but just how desperate are you to see the back of Mike Ashley?

At this moment in time would you take a deal that meant come August 2019, we would have seen relegation to the Championship AND Rafa Benitez leaving, if it meant NUFC also had new owners?

Thanks to everybody who voted and it gives a very clear snapshot of how Newcastle fans see the situation.

The final vote:

76% Yes (Would take a deal of relegation and Rafa leaving, if meant Mike Ashley sold up)

24% No (Wouldn’t accept relegation and Rafa leaving to get rid of Mike Ashley)

So for over three in four of the Newcastle fans who voted, they would take a deal of relegation and Rafa leaving, if it meant Mike Ashley also left, with at least the possibility of a chance for Newcastle United to realise their potential under new owners.

Being relegated would not be the end of the world, as the 50,000 would get even more games to attend !

  • Paul Patterson

I doubt it would make him sell.

    • Lord

He’s proven that twice already hasn’t he.

You know this is where everyone who says the debt isn’t real (because it’s to himself) is misguided.

At any time, Ashley can take £144m out of the club – tax free – by any means possible, including selling the stadium or bankrupting the club. Who’s to say he wouldn’t do that if we spent 3 years in the Championship.

        exactly

  • Waxi

We need to go down and stay down for a few years so fatty has to open his wallet. He will soon get sick if it starts to cost him and all he gets is grief off the fans.

    • mactoon

He opens the wallet every time we get relegated because he needs to be back in the Premiership where the big advertising is available. It’s when he gets back to the Premiership that the wallet snaps shut. And it’s not his wallet, it’s the club’s.

  • ScreamStevie

The problem is that going down and Mike Ashley leaving doesn’t automatically mean that we’d come back any time soon. There’s plenty of former big clubs in the lower leagues; Leeds, Sheff Wed, Notts Forest, Derby, Ipswich, Coventry…

The answer had to be yes. This needs cleaning out from top to bottom. You would hope during a sale that any potential new owner would include Rafa as their manager, but this present set up is such a load of sh*t a fresh start is the only answer and any chance moving forward. Thanks Cashley you stupid fat c**t. Drop dead!!!!
