Newcastle 0 Leicester 2 – Saturday 29 September 3pm
We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.
Newcastle going down to their fourth home defeat in a row.
Mohamed Diame missing with a free header eight yards out but then all downhill from there.
“Prepare for Championship football next season.
“This could be over by Bonfire Night…”
“The gamble is spectacularly imploding as injuries and lack of form mean our basic first eleven is depleted, to leave a team devoid of any hope. Did we manage a shot on target?
“People blaming Rafa as the games are miserable, horrible watches but this is what happens when you can’t buy players and anyone doing this is playing up to exactly what the regime wants, they thrive on deflection.
“If there is any silver lining it’s that the protests (excellent today) will grow more vociferous in the light of more poor form as this club is in deep, deep trouble.”
“Another poor game of football.
“I shouldn’t be surprised that we got more of the same, still doesn’t prevent the disappointment though…
“I cannot see anything but sad and bad times ahead.”
“Beaten by a stupid penalty and a header from a corner, which was coming, they had us all day at set pieces.
“Beaten because we have nothing in attack.
“On the ball, only Shelvey had the quality needed to create chances.
“As ever, no lack of effort, just an attacking unit not up to the job required, players just not good enough.
“And we can change those white socks as well, we’ve always lost wearing them.”
“What a sad state of affairs at Newcastle United. Nothing is going right.
“Today we chalked up our fourth home defeat of the season and all with a bit of a whimper.
“Lots of promises were broken over the summer and the players look just as fed up as the fans.
“The owner was in attendance today so he’ll have seen at first hand what it’s like to try and play a Premier League game with an underfunded team.
“The lack of striker options is as depressing as it is embarrassing.
“Football Focus ran a feature on Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today and that showed a club that was going places. The exact opposite of NUFC under Mike Ashley.
“Amid protests, PR gaffes, cack-handed decisions and sterile matches, we march into the autumn.
“Unless someone can come in and buy Ashley out then this mess won’t clear up.
“The supporters are ready for change, can the owner now please accept his time on Tyneside is up.”
“A long time since I was that deflated after a game. Disgraceful.
“The Ashley out protest should be fuelling the fire inside the ground. But that was dire.
“The season is slipping away. I repeat, simply a disgrace to the shirt.”
“This is a dire situation.
“This takeover talk will probably go away just as fast as it came about.
“How any Newcastle Utd fan can carry on regardless now is beyond me.
“The only action fans should be taking is full on boycott and force this utter tw.. out of this club for good.
“Make him take the next offer on the table and move on.
“How he has the nerve to show his face, and is actually allowed to do so, sickens me.
