Newcastle 0 Leicester 2  – Saturday 29 September 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Newcastle going down to their fourth home defeat in a row.

Mohamed Diame missing with a free header eight yards out but then all downhill from there.

Paul Patterson:

“Prepare for Championship football next season.

“This could be over by Bonfire Night…”

Jamie Smith:

“More sh…

“The gamble is spectacularly imploding as injuries and lack of form mean our basic first eleven is depleted, to leave a team devoid of any hope. Did we manage a shot on target?

“People blaming Rafa as the games are miserable, horrible watches but this is what happens when you can’t buy players and anyone doing this is playing up to exactly what the regime wants, they thrive on deflection.

“If there is any silver lining it’s that the protests (excellent today) will grow more vociferous in the light of more poor form as this club is in deep, deep trouble.”

Nat Seaton:

“Another poor game of football.

“I shouldn’t be surprised that we got more of the same, still doesn’t prevent the disappointment though…

“I cannot see anything but sad and bad times ahead.”

Ben Cooper:

“Beaten by a stupid penalty and a header from a corner, which was coming, they had us all day at set pieces.

“Beaten because we have nothing in attack.

“On the ball, only Shelvey had the quality needed to create chances.

“As ever, no lack of effort, just an attacking unit not up to the job required, players just not good enough.

“And we can change those white socks as well, we’ve always lost wearing them.”

David Punton:

“What a sad state of affairs at Newcastle United. Nothing is going right.

“Today we chalked up our fourth home defeat of the season and all with a bit of a whimper.

“Lots of promises were broken over the summer and the players look just as fed up as the fans.

“The owner was in attendance today so he’ll have seen at first hand what it’s like to try and play a Premier League game with an underfunded team.

“The lack of striker options is as depressing as it is embarrassing.

“Football Focus ran a feature on Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today and that showed a club that was going places. The exact opposite of NUFC under Mike Ashley.

“Amid protests, PR gaffes, cack-handed decisions and sterile matches, we march into the autumn.

“Unless someone can come in and buy Ashley out then this mess won’t clear up.

“The supporters are ready for change, can the owner now please accept his time on Tyneside is up.”

Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“A long time since I was that deflated after a game. Disgraceful.

“The Ashley out protest should be fuelling the fire inside the ground. But that was dire.

“The season is slipping away. I repeat, simply a disgrace to the shirt.”

Jamie Swan:

“Gargantuan bollocks.”

Toon Bano:

“This is a dire situation.

“This takeover talk will probably go away just as fast as it came about.

“How any Newcastle Utd fan can carry on regardless now is beyond me.

“The only action fans should be taking is full on boycott and force this utter tw.. out of this club for good.

“Make him take the next offer on the table and move on.

“How he has the nerve to show his face, and is actually allowed to do so, sickens me.

  • fistsofsteel2

Insipid performance – no desire, no fight, nothing. Rafa appears to be clueless. I’d say we’re definitely getting relegated this season.

    • Angelswithdirtyfaces

You could put any of the top 5 sides managers in charge of our players and I doubt any of them would be able to do any better.

      • Billmag

        Correct 👍.

      • fistsofsteel2

Rubbish! Rafa’s tactics are not working, and that is why we can’t win a game. Does he have a plan B? He doesn’t appear to.

        • nevfur

He doesn’t have the team for a plan A

    • Tomb

Maybe but Huddersfield, Cardiff, Brighton, maybe Burnley and Southampton fans will be thinking the same. As shown last season there are lots of cheap wins available at the end of the season. Bookies hve Burnley going down

      • TheFatController

Ah, ok. My mistake. “Ashley In” then…

        • Kneebotherm8

  • Tomb

If people are serious about wanting Ashley out then boycott! Stop giving him money and then whining that hes still there and acting suprised every transfer window.

    • Mark Davies

Well im done mate. I wont set again foot till he has gone

  • Tomb

Lots of poor sides Cardiff Huddersfield Burnley Southampton Brighton ridiculous for people to say we,re already relegated

    • fistsofsteel2

I’d say they’re all better than us.

    • mentalman

They all have managers who will try something different if its not working, we dont!

    • panther

no it isnt, Rafas already been told if he signs a new contract, investment stays the same, we are going down, Dubruvka, Dummet ,Lascelles and Shelvey are the only players we have who would get in any other prem team

  • Mark Davies

I can take us being 541te but when u see ashley and charnley laughing and the tubes behind laughing and getting pictures. Im done. Tore my season ticket up even though it took al long time to break throught the plastic thing.

I wont set foot in out ground again until the parosite has gone. Never ever neen so disgusted as i was seeing them laugh. 44 years old. DONE

  • Tomb

Jamie Smith, did Rafa not have world class players at Real Madrid but got sacked for playing negative football. Like Mourinho thats his preferred style.

    • Megatron1505

Who do you want in numb nuts? Kinnear? Pardew? Allardyce? You fail to see that what we have is Micheal Angelo being told to paint with £2 roller from Wilko’s. And still absolute clampits like you will call for his head, the same kind of utter morons who got Bobby the boot. Do everyone a favour a fuckoff.

      • Damon Horner

“same kind of utter morons who got Bobby the boot”.

Exactly, all fans denied pushing Bobby but it’s easier to see who they are now.

        • Tomb

Still cant criticise Rafa even a little on this site wirhout being dubbed a troll. Never even suggested he should be sacked but pointed out the fact his preferred style of football is orgsnisation over entertainment and always has been

          • Cockneytrev

            But you are though,,,Aren’t you!!!!

          • Tomb

Nope just angry after watching that and probably posting a comment that was on balance unfair on rafa.

        • panther

I dont remember anyone calling for Bobby to be sacked

          • Damon Horner

Nobody said that? But towards the end he was hardly supported as much as he should have been with some fans.

      • panther

Im starting to feel tht Rafa may be too rigid for what hes got to work with, Shelvey plays the Alonso role, but Alonso had players to hit, we have some artheretric bloke, who moves like hes in constant pain, can only see us going one way, and I dont think well get anything better, Klop or anyone else couldnt do anything with this squad, but rafas using tactics where you need good players with a bit of pace

    • Billmag

He wasn’t there long enough to put his stamp on the club besides Mr Big Head (Ronaldo) didn’t want him there in the first place.

      • Kenny

        Another Troll, ignore it

    • Cockneytrev

      Your not a Newcastle fan,,,

    • TheFatController

Are you deflecting from the owner here ? Good luck with that.

    • panther

thats the thing, for Rafas tactics to work, you need good prem players not average champ players

  • Angelswithdirtyfaces

I am really pleased that there are sides like Wolves in the Prem, showing how it can be done. I’m sure that if we had their starting 11 we’d be more attacking too. I never ever thoughtI’d be envious of a mid table side :(

  • Kenny

Maybe you lot should grow some f##king balls & boycott St James Park
because if you don`t you will be writing the same comments in 10yrs

  • robbersdog

We’re in a bad moment. It’s been going on for 11 years. Thanks Mike, you c*nt.

    • Kneebotherm8

      It’s been a long,long,long,long moment…

  • Andy Mac

The reason why Fatman turned up today was to stick two fingers up at all the fans because he can and we’ll do fk all about it

    • Cockneytrev

    • Toontaff

I enjoyed seeing a couple of fans right in front of him standing up with the chants – if you hate Ashley stand up!

      • Kneebotherm8

It’s a wonder he didn’t have them kicked oot the ground………FCB….

      • Andy Mac

I was watching in a US stream with Wor Al doing some punditry and I didn’t get the impression there was a poisonous atmosphere in the ground ? Seemed very low key

        • Ashley-out

i was of the same opinion, spineless sheep

  • molend

Let’s be honest: there isn’t a player on our books that would have made it into the Leicester starting eleven today. It’s that bad.

  • Albert Stubbins

Sorry Rafa but that was shambolic- If Rafas best skill is organisation then we we truly F>>>>D!!

    • Paul Patterson

      Er, injuries?

      • Albert Stubbins

what to a loan player that couldnt hit a barn door?

        • Paul Patterson

          Lejuene, Fernandez. Rondon..

          • Albert Stubbins

Dummett was a big miss today but all teams have injuries. Surely we cant hang on that one to justify the performance today? we should have had enough to be at least be competitive today. It was a white flag job and to me that is unacceptable from a Newcastle team.

          • TheFatController

A club spending relative peanuts and with injuries in key positions cannot expect to be competitive against a club that have recently been champions and regularly spend £20-£30m on players.

Unless you have info at hand on where leicester are disadvantaged compared to us ? Injuries, spend, maybe?

          • Albert Stubbins

yes I agree to a point that we’re at a massive disadvantage and we all know who is to blame for that but we managed to finish 10th last season through grit determination hard work and quite a bit of luck- where has that gone is the question im asking?

          • Paul Patterson

Other teams have spent/improved since then.
We’ve made a £25m profit and bought House of Fraser..

          • Albert Stubbins

im not disputing that. What Im taking issue with is the lack of fight and basic organisation within the team or is that down to other teams spending more than us as well?

          • Mike D

3 defenders out. That’s got to have a pretty big impact on organisation. Rafa isn’t perfect but, if he was given the tools to do his job, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

          • Albert Stubbins

your mistaking my comments as anti rafa- im not- rafa is the best manager we’ve had since sir bobby. Im simply stating that he has to be getting more out of the players he does have on the pitch. Perez, shelvey, Atsu in particular were terrible today. if we didnt believe we had a chance today over 51,000 people wouldnt have turned up. The performance today from many of our players was gutless irrespective of the opposition and how much money they have spent.

          • Mike D

Agreed. I’ve stopped watching entirely, just wish I could get away from these pages. It’s a form of self harm. No hope no matter who the manager is.

          • Albert Stubbins

Lol your right. Torture at the match and then wallowing in misery on these boards. Why couldn’t I have been born in Manchester or Liverpool. Ha ha

          • panther

never seen Atsu raise his game to average anytime

          • Albert Stubbins

More chance of raising the Titanic!!

          • panther

weve gone backwards while everyone else is going forwards

          • panther

because the players will be thinking like us, wheres the progress?we have weakened our team and bought house of fraser, th players will be wondering what kind of circus this is

          • Albert Stubbins

I don’t think players think like that. It’s a fair comment you make but I’m not having it. Shelvey was being spoken about by many on here as a England player last season. Kennedy was very good last season. Ritchie came good last season and Clarke and lascelles looked unbeatable. With the exception of Kennedy the rest have gone backwards. That has nothing to do with other players not coming in. I’m not saying it’s not a factor but it’s not the main reason. They look unmotivated. Have they lost belief in the manager. The next few games will tell us all we need to know.

          • panther

and theyve all just been kicked in the bollox this window

          • Paul Patterson

We can’t afford a couple of injuries .Today we had 4. Impossible.

          • Tomb

Leicester on winning the title actually spent very little. Vardy cost a million. Mahrez 400K. And Bournemouth recently stuffed them so they are hardly unbeatable.

          • Tomb

True Leicester have spent a lot more than us but no mention in the article highlighting that Mahrez was sold for 60 million Drinkwater for 20mill and Kante for 30 million I think. When this is taken into account its hardly extravagent spending.

          • Billmag

They haven’t shown a profit in there transfer dealings unlike us, plus they have vastly improved there training facilities.

          • Big Hairy Man

A lot more extravagant than ours.

    • molend

‘we have a very poor squad’ No quarrel there.
‘but we need to be getting better performances from decent players like Shelvey and Ritchie surely’. On a good day they’re not bad, OK ‘decent’, but, hell’s teeth, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp combined couldn’t turn them into potential match winners. At Premiership standard, they’re pedestrian. Yet, as you imply, they’re the best we’ve got. Put them on a list of players who’ve played for this club, in terms of quality, and I doubt if they’d be 500 and 501. Since 1955, I can easily think of 200, just off the top of my head who were much better. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a Newcastle team without even one quality player until now. It’s dire, kidder,it really is.

      • Rev

And how do you know nobody else could do better with them. Rafa has chucked the towel in, same tactics, same team, same result, same we must do better (but i wont change a thing), same comments about you get what you pay for. He was and may still be a world class manager, but setting your team up with zero attacking intent isnt working. Time for PLAN B Rafa …. oh i forgot there is no plan B because he has won everything in the game. Bollox.

        • Albert Stubbins

          Shoalas got his coaching badges?

  • Ashley-out

the parasite just sat there and laughed today, keep filling the seats, keep buying the shirts & YOU are part of the problem.

  • DC1964

A 0-0 seems to be the best we can hope for at the moment!

  • grantham mag

We will be relegated with least number of points ever in premiership and its all down to the Fat Chelsea supporter, what a bag of [email protected]

    • Tomb

If we are still winless after the next few ‘winnable’ home games maybe but still think the main difference between this start and last seasons is the fixture list.

      • Albert Stubbins

There seems to be a basic lack of fight and determination this season to me. Relegation appears inevitable.

  • Leazes.

    Jack Lacey-Hatton:

“A long time since I was that deflated after a game. Disgraceful…..

Yes I see manure are having their problems!

Are you still trying to keep up this charade that you are a Newcastle United Fan?

  • Jonas

This is as good as its ever going to get under Ashley. That is guaranteed.
The football may improve but it won’t be in this division.

Boycotting, forming a new club – how can they not be better alternatives than that?

Okay not now, but when Rafa goes.

  • Philippines

Shelvey found the opposition as much as he found his own players. All round the ball was given away.

  • HarryHype59

Can anyone identify three worse teams than NUFC? Relegation looks a certainty based on the results so far.

  • Mike

perez horse atsu couldnt get a game with the mackems

    • Albert Stubbins

I wrote a disparaging article about Perez last season and he miraculously came into form. I did the same with slomo and hey Presto he turned into Patrick Vieira. Maybe it’s time I did it again? Lol lol
