Mike Ashley is feeling the pressure.

Friday morning seeing the Sports Direct and Newcastle United supremo lashing out at those people who are getting in his way and/or opposing him.

Newcastle fans have (correctly) identified Sports Direct as Ashley’s Achilles Heel, in terms of where to target protests when it comes to trying to ‘persuade’ him to sell up and release his hold on Newcastle United.

As well running interference online with the SD accounts and protesting outside his high street stores, Newcastle fans bought nominal amounts of shares to allow them to attend the Sports Direct AGM on Wednesday in London.

Ahead of that meeting, Mike Ashley and Sports Direct released a statement revealing that two key Ashley allies were leaving the board, including Chairman Keith Hellawell.

Many independent SD shareholders have repeatedly tried to force Hellawell’s resignation, blaming he and Mike Ashley for a significant proportion of the bad publicity that Sports Direct attracts

In his public statement released on Friday (see below), Mike Ashley savages is critics/enemies and claims they have stabbed him (and Sports Direct & Keith Hellawell) in the back.

As usual, everything is somebody else’s fault and if only Mike Ashley was allowed to do exactly what he wants without interference, everything would be perfect.

However, everything is not perfect at Sports Direct, nor at Newcastle United, under the ego-fuelled tyrant.

He talks of how he and his businesses are unfairly criticised, yet he is the one who said he was refusing to go to his own company’s AGM because he was supposedly too busy, only to turn up at the last minute. Then at that AGM on Wednesday it only lasted 15 minutes and none of the independent shareholders present were allowed to ask a single question.

Mike Ashley claims that ‘True Entrepreneurs’ will never be accepted but this is another lie, it is people who behave like Ashley (whether they are entrepreneurs or whatever) who will never be accepted by decent people.

The (fair) pressure and spotlight that is being put on Sports Direct is definitely getting to Mike Ashley, Newcastle fans given every encouragement to continue with their targeting of the NUFC owner’s empire.

Mike Ashley statement:

“Despite significant challenges within the retail sector in the UK and beyond, which have resulted in many retailers failing, Sports Direct have continued to perform well and exceed expectations.

“As I stated on Wednesday, the acquisition of House of Fraser will be a game changer. I welcome its staff and suppliers into the Sports Direct family, and we look forward to building a brighter and significant future.

“Despite this progress and the undoubted good performance of Sports Direct led by Keith Hellawell and myself, the company’s shareholders appear to be affected by the pressure of the media and certain other organisations, and they have failed to support Sports Direct, Keith and myself, on this journey.

“It is blatantly apparent that true entrepreneurs will never be accepted in the public arena.

“The media circus surrounding Sports Direct, including but not restricted to matters connected to our AGM, only proves that whatever progress Sports Direct makes, it will always be subject to disproportionate scrutiny and misrepresentation.

“In the light of the above and despite the substantial progress made over the last few years, the shareholders have now made it extremely challenging for future engagement to take place.

“On the one hand they are delighted with our performance and progress, yet with the other hand they have stabbed Sports Direct and myself in the back by repeatedly hounding Keith Hellawell

“The people within the Sports Direct group, including House of Fraser, are and will continue to be my number one priority.”

Mike Ashley

  • Lord

Keegan, Hughton and Benitez will be having a rueful chuckle when they hear about Ashley bleating about being stabbed in the back.

    • Paul Patterson

Dennis Wise is oddly silent ..

      • Ron

        He was probably stabbed first.

        • Brent Jackson

          Lets hope so.

          • Ron

And that the knife was rusty1

  • drc74

    not hatd a fxcking enough

  • Ashley-out

choke on a pie you Fat parasite

  • Ron

Liar – let’s see his back, and the wound!

    • Ron

I’d really love to see the back of him!

      • lupa

With the knife still in it

        • Ron

          Well proof is proof.

        • Peaky

          Face down….in the Tyne….

  • Steve Smith

“In the light of the above and despite the substantial progress made over the last few years, the shareholders have now made it extremely challenging for future engagement to take place.”

Next AGM to be down to 5 minutes long then.

He’s right in that SD face a disproportionate amount of criticism, but he brings it about himself with his unprofessional and odious behaviour.

You wouldn’t see the owners of the likes of Starbucks, Amazon, Apple etc playing the jester and pulling out wads of £50 notes from their pockets during media engagements, or holding historical public institutions like our club to ransom.

    • Ron

They wouldn’t even puke in the firplace!

  • Paul Patterson

“The people within the Sports Direct group, including House of Fraser, are and will continue to be my number one priority.” – Mike Ashley.

From the horses mouth . .

    • Ron

      We’ll bearound 17th then.

      • Sickandtired

We aren’t in the SD group – just the MASH one.

        • Ron

          But still 17th!

          • Sickandtired

I actually think we would be bottom of his list, whatever that amounts to. Everything else is his own creation and therefore he values it more.

    • porciestreet

Which proves unequivocally that we are only an advertising tool and not a football club.
He should be jailed for misrepresentation and defrauding his custormers.

      • Jezza

NUFC is not just an advertising tool for Ashley. The club is also a cash cow generating huge sums of money for him to invest in his core sweat shop business.

  • molend

Oddly enough, I believe that Ashley is- potentially- the best owner for Newcastle. He just needs to see it. I operate between England, America, Greece and Bulgaria. This would obviously be difficult for Ashley, because he’s only a billionaire, but, in theory, he could, at least have a pied-à-terre in the Toon. If he spent some time there, a quid or two, if we started to build the kind of infrastructure that Rafa seems to want as a sort of legacy, can you imagine? Yet sadly/stupidly he seems not to care. I’m as angry as everybody else about the mess he’s caused at Newcastle, but I also feel sorry for him for not seeing what he’s missing. I’m off to put me tin hat on (if wor lass hasn’t confiscated it)

    • Ron

The only bomb proof pied-à-terre in Newcastle!

      I hope the hat fits!

    • Sickandtired

It’s like feeling sorry for a Piranha. Get a grip of yourself, man.

      • molend

Sorry you feel like that. But then, perhaps I should get a grip of myself.

        • der

          perhaps you should

    • Paul Patterson

      He’s not interested man!

    • Toonrobbybobson

He was never interested sadly, just in the gains for SD!

    • Carverlier football

Oh, certainly the only thing keeping him from being Newcastle’s best ever owner are his nature, intentions, contempt for others and personal priorities. If he could only change all of them… Sadly, 11 years have taught us that the leopard does not change his shorts

    • robbersdog

Yeah, I agree; if Mike Ashley was a completely different person, eg, Roman Abramovich, he could be a great owner for Newcastle.

      • molend

That’s really all I was trying to say. But I knew in advance the reception it would get. Hence the reference to the tin hat.

      • porciestreet

We should never have 5h!t on Richard Branson when he was sponsoring us.

    • graham18

      Sorry but I disagree.He’s relegated the club twice.Lied to managers.He is a complete tw*t

      • molend

What I was trying to say was that, if he had any sense, he could be the best owner, but clearly, at the moment he’s probably the worst- at least since McKeag. So I don’t think we disagree at all.

  • Kenny

is that the only f##king tie he has, must have been a pressy of Penfold

    • Ron

No nicked from club shop, toom colours. Pretending he’s a supporter.

    • Steven05

He’s got some canny jeans tho

  • Leicester Mag

Once again the thin skinned cockwomble shows exactly why protests need to continue and increase

    • BanJones

cockwomble (plural cockwombles) (Britain, slang, derogatory) A foolish or obnoxious person.

  • Toonrobbybobson

Tw @ts will never be accepted. Theres a difference.

This man never accepts anything is his fault based on the actions he carries out (lack of) or his attitude.

People have him sussed. He needs to get over it and stop playing ‘im bullied’ card all the time because its insulting to anyone who is actually legitamately bullied!

Poor old Mike Ashley my ar$…

    • Ron

His proclamations are worse than those on Russian State TV, except for being even less believable.

  • nufcslf

Shame it is not literally. The man is scum and wouldn’t be missed a bit.

  • Superdooperhooper

Also in the news today – ashley reneges on offer to refund online orders made before the HoF crash and customers will have to join the list of creditors . So it’s not only toon fans it’s SD shareholders his employees and his customers. Is it his ambition to become the most hated man in Britain? What have we done to deserve him ?

    • Leazes.

      ….trusted John Hall?

      • phildene

Who shyte on us all! Claiming to love the toon huh! Money is the only thing these rich barstewards love!

        • 1957

Rumour had it the saintly Sir John almost bankrupted a few companies who worked on the Metro Centre by paying bills later than you would normally expect.

Hall and Shepherd simply knew how to keep supporters from getting restless while they paid themselves, and their family, big salaries and share dividends even in years when the club was running at a loss

          • graham18

That is the best known secret!!

    • Dave Pattinson

…turned up and filled his stadium so he can say to his mates..’Look at these stupid mugs, they still think its their club’.

      • Superdooperhooper

Totally agree. I haven’t been back since the keegan debacle and I never will until ashley goes. The so called superfans like Monkseaton and the ‘day out ‘ mob are ashley’s enablers .

  • Billmag

Obviously there’s no mirrors in Ashley tower’s, if there was it would reflect a poisonus human being that thinks it’s eveyone’s fault but his.

    • der

A poisonous what?? That aint no human being!

  • porciestreet

    Stabbed in the back eh..!
Clearly the blade wasn’t big enough as you’re still breathing.

  • SuperDesHamilton

Fantastic, that upset he writes a letter like a little girl 😂😂😂

  • Peaky

That smirk wants twattin right off his fatfucking face….

  • drc74

Mr Ashley denounced the “media circus” surrounding the firm and said “true entrepreneurs” would never be accepted.

yep mike, its all our fault for demonising, fat horrible slug like bullies who pay family members masive bonuses

    • Dave Pattinson

Dead right drc! For ‘true entrepreneurs’ read ‘greedy b’stds’. Historically, the true entrepreneurs in our country respected their workforce and attempted to help them benefit from their wealth. There are plenty of examples of wealthy philanthropists in this country. Sadly Ashley behaves in a way similar to that of the old coal barons…except this is the 21st century. He has to go.

  • Carverlier football

I’m pretty sure it’s not usually considered a wise move to slag off your own investors…

  • Steven05

He has proven for years and now admitted that he doesn’t care about NUFC

    • Vodkamagpie

      Newcastle finished 10th last year

      • Steven05

Despite Cancer boy – not with the help of him

Do you think we’ll finish 10th again this season?

Rafa will be gone soon. SportsDirect United will be gone from the premier league soon too

        • Vodkamagpie

Who knows, anything can happen in football

          • Squintytoonarmy

Finished 10th but could easily have been a lot lower. It wasn’t a comfortable finish. Bit of investment for Rafa and we’d be well clear of any relegation battle leaving opportunity to have a go at one of the cups

          • Vodkamagpie

You make it sound so easy, almost like the west ham owners

          • Squintytoonarmy

Yep – half decent investment and Rafa would have us well clear of relegation – it is that simple

          • Vodkamagpie

Just like mclarens season, 73mil net spent, and we finished top 10, wait a moment!!!

          • Squintytoonarmy

You can’t compare Rafa to that halfwit

          • Toonrobbybobson

Thats like comparing Einstein to a methhead

          • Vodkamagpie

I’m just starting a fact, we gave a football manager 73mil net spend, and we got relagated

        • graham18

Totally agree that Rafa will be gone soon.To be honest does Rafa know something we don’t?In the sense of a new buyer for the club?He keeps his cards close to his chest. On the otherhand,If it meant The Toon dropped down 2 leagues and Ashley sold it,I’d go for that just to ged rid of the fat horrible slug

          • Steven05

That really is pretty much the hope I’m clinging on to – Rafa knowing something we don’t about an upcoming sale

And sadly I agree – dropping down a few leagues in exchange for a new owner would be worth it

Let’s just all keep the pressure going, do what we can – it is working

    • JohnnyH

      Dead right pal
You can ask them at; [email protected]

      Every bit of pressure helps

  • Paul Cannell

I wonder if the fat slug blames someone else for those jeans he wore.

  • Vodkamagpie

Does anyone do the fantasy premier league thing. I always try to add Newcastle players to my squad, but im finding it difficult

    • The Postman

Vodka you will have to explain a little more what your fantasy premier league problem is.

      • Vodkamagpie

I would like to have a Newcastle player in, unfortunately no one really stands out, do you have the same problem?.

        • The Postman

I wouldn’t pick an attacker at the moment, but we don’t concede many goals so if you want a Newcastle player I would suggest Dubravka or Lascells.
          Good luck

          • Vodkamagpie

Was thinking dubravka. My current team is
            Ederson, hamer,
            Arnold, Robertson,mendy,Alonso,holebas
            Salah,moura,Walcott, lerma,torreira

          • The Postman

will look out for them over the weekend

  • Angelswithdirtyfaces

“Sports Direct have continued to perform well and exceed expectations.”
So the 72% drop in profits for 2018 and Hellawell forced out, added to the share price fall from the high of 436 in July 18 to under 350 now is a good performance ?
Even the other 38% shareholders hate his guts – its not just us he’s abused..
Might be good for Toon fans though as he’s well over-reached himself.
Keep hitting him in the pocket.

  • wheyayeman

Good he’s finally starting to feel the heat, crank up the pressure!

  • graham18

Keep up the pressure on him and SD .Soon he will crack

  • Yasir Khan

Toooooon army tooooon army tooooooon army on the 22nd all iver the uk every toon supporter should protest at their nearest SD. #dntfck

  • t00nraider

Keith finally gets his commupance! When we win a few games the protesters will go back into the woodwork.

  • Tweed Mag

He is getting worried. Veiled threats (“the shareholders have now made it extremely challenging for future engagement to take place”) means he is going to ignore them as much as he ignores fans of NUFC. You are not allowed to question the almighty Ashley – he is the man in charge and so there. He has all the money, but that does not mean the right decisions are made, all of the time. His wealth has made him arrogant and his only associates are weak sycophants with no opinion of their own. People like him will eventually fall flat on their face, lets hope it is soon.

    • graham18

      Don’t worry it will.

  • Dillon Tovak

    I wish.

  • MC2

No businessman should ever slag down his shareholders. That is after all where all his money comes from. His shares closed on “STRONG SELL” yesterday.

    • Carverlier football

I am tempering my pleasure of that with the recollection that he’s deliberately driven down the share price before just to stick two fingers up at the other investors. Not exactly a sustainable business model though…

  • foggy

So the FCB is throwing his toys out of the pram and blaming others ….”and certain other organisations” for the down fall of his sidekick Hellawell. I expect he’ll seek some revenge upon these “other organisations” which will probably mean more hardship for NUFC and the Toon fans. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sacked Rafa in the next week or two.

    • graham18

He has a habit of doing things out of spite that annoy the club, the manager and the fans. But what goes round comes around- wait and watch,it will come back on him sooner or later.

    • Jezza

He won’t just sack Rafa he’ll really put the boot into Newcastle fans by bringing back Pardew.

  • East Durham Mag

    Karma is a b*tch Fatty. 👍

  • MadMag83

“I welcome them to the Sports Direct family…” Jesus wept, that must be like finding out you’ve been adopted by Josef Fritzl.
