Manchester City 2 Newcastle United 1 – Match ratings of all NUFC players

Manchester City 2 Newcastle United 1  – Saturday 1 September 5.30pm

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after Saturday’s match.

Newcastle losing 2-1 where they stuck to the task and it took a stunning 30 yarder to get the three points for the home side.

Dubravka – 9. Thought he had a really good game.

Couldn’t do anything about the two goals which were good strikes and he made several key saves throughout the game.

Most importantly though, and I’ve mentioned this before, he just exudes confidence in the back line. Caught and punched quite a few crosses into the box, very commanding.

Yedlin – 8. Aside from the goal, I thought Yedlin defended really well throughout the game and coped with both Sterling and Mahrez for the majority.

Of course it was a great effort for the goal and a great finish.

It may have looked easy but to finish like that after a 50/60 yard sprint is very difficult!

Lascelles – 5. Gave the ball away for the first goal and genuinely had a disastrous first half.

Looked uncomfortable at the right side of the centre half position if I’m honest (ironically after his supposed disagreement with Rafa).

Fernandez – 7. I continue to be impressed by him so far.

Excited to see him and Lascelles next to each other at home to Arsenal. Looks strong, confident and decent on the ball.

Clark – 7. Did ok!

No fireworks and I can’t think of him making any mistakes.

That is all you can ask on a difficult day for the defence.

Dummett – 8. A great defensive performance from both of the full backs in my opinion.

Obviously doesn’t offer the same as Yedlin going forward but on days like this, I have lost count of the amount of times down the years that Dummett has kept the likes of Mahrez, Hazard and others quiet.

Diame – 7. Another one who I thought had another good game.

Didn’t get a chance to really put his foot on the ball but worked hard to break up play and defensively looked solid.

Ki – 5. Really struggled.

Gave the ball away plenty of times and didn’t look like he was up to much if I’m honest.

A difficult game for him, perhaps like Perez not comfortable with the defensive set up.

Kenedy – 5. Somewhat of an improvement upon his recent performances but struggled to get into the game and didn’t look great when he was on the ball.

A hard game for all.

Perez – 3. Might seem harsh but I think he lost the ball every time he touched it and didn’t offer much defensively.

A 3 for effort basically.

Rondon – 8. A great display and exactly what you would expect from your centre forward.

Held the ball up, worked hard and provided a great assist for Yedlin’s goal. Promising from him so far!

Joselu – 5. Didn’t do anything at all when he came on.

Not sure why he replaced Rondón as when you are looking for a goal, why bring the most likely candidate to score a goal off the field?

Murphy – N/A. Not enough to judge him on.

Atsu – N/A. Not enough to judge him on.
