Crystal Palace fans with surprising comments ahead of the Newcastle match

Crystal Palace fans have seen their team win at both Fulham and Huddersfield.

However, they have lost both games at home (Liverpool and Southampton), as well as a defeat at Watford.

Six points from five games sees Palace safely in mid-table but the supporters seem anything but convinced.

They have only scored four Premier League goals and Zaha has got three of them, adding to the perception that they are a bit of a one man team.

As for Newcastle United, despite only the one point from five games, there is a surprising level of acceptance amongst Crystal Palace fans that this is largely down to playing four of last season’s top six.

In fact, a minority of them appear to have a healthy respect for this current Newcastle team.

What does appear clear is that the home fans are expecting a match of low quality and one that could go either way.

Rafa Benitez only has Florian Lejeune out injured now, so hopefully playing a pretty much first choice team can help tilt the balance in Newcastle’s direction.

Crystal Palace fans commenting via their top Holmesdale.Net message board:

‘I saw Newcastle v Cardiff and it was a truly woeful game.

Benitez has them very organised though so they will be tough to beat.

Also, as much as I dislike him, every time I watch Shelvey I can’t help but think he would be great for us.’

‘Newcastle have had some really tough fixtures so far and will be relishing a winnable game.

This won’t be easy at all, especially since our performances haven’t been convincing for the past few games.

I think 1-1 and not a whole lot of quality, though I very much hope we step up our performance, have Meyer in from the start orchestrating the play, and have a really positive game.’

‘Depends what Palace turns up. If it’s the one that played the first 75 mins vs saints we will get dicked. However we have Zaha so reckon 1-1’

‘I think we’ll lose 0-2.’

‘0-0, It’s never great against the Magpies, apart from when we put 5 past them a few seasons ago…

‘The game will be sh.., just like the weather on Saturday.’

Newcastle are in dire form and we’ve had one bad game this season at home to Southampton.

We played great at Watford but lost and played poorly at Huddersfield and won so they level themselves out. Had we got 3 points against the Saints we’d be on cloud 9 right now.

As long as we turn up and I refuse to be pessimistic at this stage of a season, so will say should be a solid win and good performance. 2-0 only because we have no strikers capable of getting hat-tricks and truly stomping a team.’

‘I don’t think we have such a good record at our gaff against the Magpies.

I’d be having a guess at 1-1.’

‘Close, but a narrow Palace win. It’s games like this that we must win at home.’

‘It’s about time that we stuffed the Toon, we never seem to, although my memory is fading.

Anyway I think Jordan Ayew will get a brace, Wilf to get his usual key goal, Palace to win 3-1.’

‘Newcastle and our midfield worries me, Luka is not playing like last season, if we play like last week I hate to say it I can see at toon win.

We can’t let their midfield take control of the game.

Newcastle will play it tight and look to snatch a goal, if they do I think they will close shop so we will need to put pressure on them from the off.

Three Toon players we have to watch are Diame, Perez and Shelvey, who has been on the bench the last few matches, so that might be a good omen.’

‘If we play to our potential we could scrape a victory. Unfortunately, I think it will be 1-1.’

‘Some kind souls have predicted a 1-1 and whilst our supporters will be very disappointed at failing to secure a win, perhaps it is worth considering that whilst Newcastle have not made the best of starts, they have played Tottenham,Chelsea, Man C and Arsenal and only lost to each of them by a single goal.Tough start for them in terms of fixtures.’

‘If we play like we did against Southampton or Huddersfield we will lose, Newcastle have had some tough games and played well, we have had easy games and played sh…

No Point dressing it up ladies and gents. We really haven’t played well since Liverpool. We lucked out against Huddersfield, and got what we deserved against Southampton, and Watford.

We look slow and tired already, Saturday is the perfect chance for Meyer to start instead of Luka who has not been at the races so far this season.

I know I sound like the harbinger of doom but recent performances have not been great at all.

But this is Palace so we will probably win 8-0 lol.’

‘Sorry, but if we can’t beat Newcastle at home, it’s going to be a very long, hard season. Providing we go at them from the start and not start as badly as we have done most games so far, comfortable 2-0 win.’

‘My prediction is I will be slaughtered by half time and the score will be hopefully 1-0 to Palace, which we will desperately try and hold onto in the second half.

If Shelvey doesn’t play I reckon we will have a better chance than if he does. We need to run the midfield in this match so I would play Meyer, Kouyate, Luka and Townsend with Wilf, Ayew up top.’

‘Predictions…

Some fat cu… can’t fit through the turnstiles.

Loads of black and white in lower Holmesdale.

Caterers run out of pies and beer.’

‘We’re in the Prem, every season will be long and hard whether we beat Newcastle at home or not.

Add to that historically we have a poor home record against them and as others have pointed out they’ve not won a game but played 4 teams out of the probable top 6 finishers.

If they play Rondon and put as many crosses in as Huddersfield we’ll be in trouble.’
