Crystal Palace fans getting little bit excitable with comments on Newcastle United and the game

Crystal Palace fans have had plenty to say after Saturday’s game.

Roy Hodgson said he understood why Rafa Benitez would feel Newcastle deserved a point but the Palace supporters aren’t quite on the same page as their manager…

As well as not having anything good to say about Newcastle, the Crystal Palace fans also see failings in their own side, despite still thinking they deserved to win.

As for referee Andre Marriner, not surprisingly they are loving him, although still some of them complaining about the officials!

Crystal Palace fans commenting via their top Holmesdale.Net message board:

‘The reality is even top teams dominate games and come up fruitless. Make no mistake we dominated Newcastle.’

‘We’re not cutting teams open, but we still controlled the game and we did get in behind a couple of times. We created chances but didn’t take them. We had Newcastle penned back, but our delivery from dead ball situations is so bad that we kept letting Newcastle off the hook.’

‘I’m concerned about the lack of goals in the team. There were plenty of chances created against Newcastle but no finisher.

For all his bad form and terrible record over the last year Benteke still looks the best option which is a worry.

Townsend never looks like scoring and there is too much reliance on Zaha.’

‘Townsend has lost a step, and speed was his only skill. He passes like he’s blindfolded.

Offensively, we’re hopeless. Nice that we have 7 points, but it’s excruciating to watch.’

‘I thought Andre Marriner had a top top game!

Pretty much everything right, sensible old school reffing, up there with play as well.

10/10 for me!’

‘Liked the way the early forearm smash to Wilf’s (already shown as dodgy in the warm up) back got an instant yellow too – someone has been taking notice of the media coverage perhaps.’

‘Yes, I have to agree that he had a pretty good game. I am normally one of his biggest critics however he let the game flow and let some fouls go in favour of both sides if he thought it wasn’t influencing the game. He missed the horrendous dive by one of their players which deserved a yellow but apart from that it was a decent performance.’

‘The biggest problem yesterday was with the rules of the game. At the end of the first half it was 10 fouls to 2. Clearly Newcastle were committing multiple minor fouls to break up attacks.

This clearly contributed to a dull game with a lack of chances. Once again I’m claiming football follows rugby’s rules and when a team is repeatedly commiting fouls, the next player caught, then gets a booking, regardless of their individual conduct earlier in the game.’

‘We should have won that game that’s for certain.

Newcastle are one god awful negative football team.’

‘Newcastle to be relegated.’

‘When we put the ball out and they were obliged to give it back to Wayne did Shelvey really shoot at goal or was he making sure it went for out for a goal kick. If it had gone in what would have happened?’

‘Shelvey didn’t shoot, he was hitting to Hennessey and sliced it. He was embarrassed by it and it was obvious he didn’t try to “score”.’

‘He didn’t shoot, and he apologised for slicing it wide of Wayne. The minute it went out for a goal kick Lascelles also waved all the other Newcastle players back from the high press they were normally doing on our goal kicks. Pretty sure it was just an accident.’

‘Big club Newcastle playing for a goalless draw and getting one. Pathetic from them.

We played well today, hoping we can keep up this level of performance. Feel f…ing robbed though.’

Newcastle were very well organised defensively, but it’s still frustrating not to get the win. Meyer coming on seemed to get us moving the ball quicker and if Sakho hadn’t gone for the photo finish we would have won. AWB for me the best player, but both fullbacks got forward well (and had little to do at the back). The other players seriously need to get some shooting practise in though, as we can’t expect Wilf to come up with a worldy every week.

On a side note, good that the camera got a clear shot of the Newcastle tw.t who threw the bottle at AWB. Lifetime ban for a moronic action on its way.’

‘Why should throwing a bottle be rewarded.’

‘Just watched the highlights on motd and that Sakho miss is going to sting for a while , I even found myself (even though I watched the game live yesterday ) screaming at Sakho to leave it for Zaha to tap it in at the back post.’

‘Was there a flag though to save his blushes ? Said on the BBC text that one was raised, not mentioned on the highlights. Pretty much summed us up in the performance, an air of panic with no real composure in front of goal. Not burying anything at the moment.’

If Newcastle go down I’d be more than happy having Shelvey off them.’
