The Newcastle team v Arsenal has just been confirmed.

Rafa Benitez no doubt looking forward to getting back into action after the international break.

United look to make it two home victories in a row over the Gunners after the win in April.

The Newcastle boss having better/increased options today with the likes of Ritchie and Shelvey once again available.

However, fair to say, this might not have been seen as the dream starting eleven by many fans, with a strong looking bench.

Shelvey maybe not 100%, whilst Rondon has been on international duty – Kenedy taken out of the firing line.

This is who Rafa Benitez starts with:

Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Fernandez, Dummett, Ritchie, Hayden, Diame, Murphy, Perez, Joselu

and the Subs:

Shelvey, Kenedy, Rondon, Muto, Darlow, Clark, Manquillo

This is who Unai Emery starts with:

Cech, Bellerin, Mustafi, Sokratis, Monreal, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette

Subs

Leno, Holding, Elneny, Torreira, Mkhitaryan, Welbeck, Lichtsteiner

  • Leicester Mag

Difficult to see the creativity in this line up.

  • Peaky

Bus parked for 80 mins then chuck the subs on.

  • Simon Ritter

Time for Murphy and Ritchie to prove their worth. Fingers crossed.

  • Billmag

Not to happy Hayden is in the team after his performance the last time he wore the shirt, tend to agree with Leicester Mag not too much creativity in the line up.

    • Kenny

      there isnt any

      • Billmag

        True.

  • Kenny

You have to fear for Newcastle with that line up, another damage limitation job

  • Squintytoonarmy

    Draw at best I reckon

  • Damon Horner

Good fortune and set pieces look the way. Always backing the team but today looks tough!

    Howay the lads!

  • mentalman

    Obviously Rondon is too tired after travelling to start so would you rather;

Start with him and then bring hoss on

    Or

Use Rondon at the end of the game

    • 1957

I’d rather start with him, not much good giving him 20-30 minutes when the game is lost.

If travelling is a problem surely Yedlin should only make the bench, I’m told they arrived back at NCL on the same plane.

  • 5floorshigh

    Arsenal must be wetting themselves

    • Dave Mitchison

      Only with laughter

  • Natturner26

Getting sick of Rafa not picking his best available eleven. Still hoping for a surprise though let’s go Newcastle!

  • Ashley-out

both Yedlin & Rondon were over in America, he plays Yedlin but not Rondon who scored 2 goals, instead we have his 2 Spanish guys as the forwards,
    is Rondon the new Mitrovic

    • nufcslf

Good point and I wouldn’t mind betting he would of got on the end of some of the crosses so far today. At least looking we might be the home side today.

  • Kenny

Not doing so bad but toothless up front, i just hope Rafa doesnt wait to long to put on Rondon

    • DC1964

Yep, lots of effort but goal threat is zero!

      • Kenny

as i said hope Rondon comes on early

        • DC1964

Definitely, he looks a decent player.

  • ToonTom

Interesting that even at this very early stage of the season Newcastle are out of the bottom three (at half-time) by dint of not shipping a shedload of goals to City, whereas Huddersfield did.

    • Kenny

we have to play like that against the top teams, could save us come May

  • Leicester Mag

Looks like Mackems going for a Burton

    • DC1964

And remember when they mocked us about going to Burton on a cold evening!

  • Simon Ritter

Glad to hear, via Radio Newcastle, our wide men are giving Arsenal a hard time. We just need to make our good performance deliver three points.

  • Kenny

    looks like Lascelles is injured

  • nufcslf

A forced defensive substitution, just what a none attacking side needs. Oh dear, hete we go….

  • fdstre

    game over

  • DC1964

    We need substitutions now!

  • Leicester Mag

We can huff and puff but unfortunately in our case up front we are like a wolf whose chuffed through 60 a day.

  • fdstre

horrible lack of quality and creativity, us huddersfiled and cardiff to go down by any means this is championship team

  • Peaky

Rondon definitely needs to come on but who between Kenedy or Shelvey ???

    • nufcslf

I think Shelvey, but all 3 should have been on from the beggining. At least might keep the protests on Shyt Direct going.

  • SuperDesHamilton

Fulham are getting battered wonder if there manager will get abuse like ours did. 56 minutes in their out the game…there super striker could save them 🤔🤔🤔

  • fdstre

this happens when you play with 20 % possession at home
really hope to go down , Benitez to leave and Ashley to seel the club, the only way something good to happen for this club

  • DC1964

Dubravka has been brilliant this season but he should have saved both goals!

  • Kenny

to easy for Arsenal, class shows through in the end & still no subs in sight

  • Peaky

Rudderless & relegation bound I’m afraid..

  • Ashley-out

may as well play with 9 men with Joselu & Perez in the attack

  • Leicester Mag

Got to fear we have run aground up sh1tcreek and the paddle bought from direct tat has broken after 1 season

  • Wezza

Same old same old. Rafa has not been backed, we just replaced players and sold them on for a profit, 123M TV money gone on HOF purchase?
IF we survive then what next season?
    It will never change people.
We must get the FCB out!

    • nufcslf

Full ground on the telly sadly tells a nothing wrong story. This is as bad as it gets right now.

  • fdstre

hayden instead of shelvey and joselu instead of rondon is criminal by rafa, he is playing like we have as good replacements on the bench as on the pitch. Just throw them in the battle , wtf

  • robbersdog

Dubravka having a poor game; arguably, he could’ve stopped both goals. 20 minutes to go, and it’s now about about keeping it to a respectable 0-2.

Verdict: We’re in deep sh*t and we’ve got a long, hard season ahead.

    • DC1964

Yeah, he should have done better, got a good hand on both shots. We have been awful today, really bad!

  • Peaky

I don’t buy this our season starts after today nonsense either….Palace will not exactly be shyting themselves having to play us next week…

    • DC1964

I agree, our season started on the 11th August!

      • Peaky

        Exactly.

    • Danimal

Presumably Shelvey and Rondon not fully fit. Sad to say but it’s just about pointless risking them at 2-0 down in this one. We’ve already lost Lascelles. Just got past 40 points last season with very few injuries. Already having plenty of key injury problems this season, with a squad that hasn’t been strengthened. I’m strangely relaxed about it all, refuse to let it spoil my life. That’s how far we’ve come under this regime.

  • gordon

crying out for somebody to control the ball in midfield and pass it ffs – wish we had someone on the bench like that

    • DC1964

Terrible decision with the subs bench today!

  • fdstre

palace is miiles ahead of us in terms of players and investments

  • fdstre

rafa had the whole summer to target Number 10 and he got Muto …….

  • Leicester Mag

On what fookin planet are Hos /Perez/Hayden and Murphy premier league class? The reality is endeavour and adrenaline gets you through 45 minutes but soon as we are on the receiving end of a bit of class end of story. Week in week we just kid ourselves.

    • gallowgate26

Joselu and Hayden are barely championship class mate.

      • Kenny

        Hoss would struggle at Gateshead

  • gordon

fckn kennedy – schitt substitution as well expecting someone so out of form to change a team with no confidence

  • Ashley-out

am [email protected]@king sick of that Joselu playing, Perez as well

    • DC1964

      Have offered nowt!

      • Ashley-out

not likely to either, good chance of going down with this team

        • Peaky

          Gone backwards….embarrassing……fatcunt out..

  • gallowgate26

I used to have a season ticket up until the summer, for years I commented regularly on ‘blogs, this one and others. I at least used to check to see what the team was if I couldn’t be at a match. You know what.. I didn’t even check this match until half time, Ashley is killing the football fan in me and I’ve never been so disinterested since childhood. I fully expect the ‘plastic/ fair weather’ fan reply… I really, really don’t care anymore. It’s not that we are losing games… It’s the fact that there’s no progression, hope, anything to look forward to at all. I really don’t expect him to sell, at least not unless things get a LOT worse…

    • nufcslf

Feel exactly the same way, only this started for me with the clown Pisdew as manager.

      • SuperDesHamilton

Remember when we beat chelsea & Pardew dedicated the win to ‘mike’ that bloke still makes me skin crawl

    • Wezza

That is spot on mate and mirrors exactly all of our feelings on here. I’m sick of it.

    • ToonTom

Yep, count me in to that club too.

    • Superdooperhooper

I think we might have to ‘ do a Sunderland ‘ to get rid and you know what ? I would take that now

      • gallowgate26

I understand that but also look to the Sheffields, Forest, Leeds. Those ‘big’ clubs that are now stuck in limbo financially. I bet their fans thought they’d get back to the top division… Sunderland, I wouldn’t be surprised if the best they manage is to join that group. They’re now on the second year of parachute payments and they are running out at a rate of knots.

        • Danimal

Apart from Leeds, none of those had the infrastructure, consistently big support and recent success (even allowing for the two relegations) we have. Leeds were in a special mess so difficult to compare. Forest are a “big” club for their superb achievements in the late 70s/early 80s but not in today’s money-orientated game. Only one of the Sheffields has any kind of Premier League track record and they missed the boat long ago due to not finding a John Hall, instead sticking to a Seymour-McKeag corner shop type operation.

        • nufcslf

You are right with the stupid money that is available in the prem, you can’t really afford to go down to rebuild without the worry of never getting back.

      • SuperDesHamilton

        Stop talking rubbish

    • SuperDesHamilton

You’ve put it perfectly how a lot of us feel. It’s the fact theirs no light at the end of th tunnel because fatty will never change so we’re in this constant cycle of nothingness till he dies

    • Old codger

And that sums it up perfectly
Defeats hardly register because we no longer feel the pain
Once apathy sets in ,there is only one outcome

  • Ashley-out

brings a striker on with only 10 mins left

  • gordon

    poor substitutions by rafa…….again

  • fdstre

    muto even worse that perez

    • Kenny

      £9m worth of 💩

  • Kenny

i have 2-2, need a quick double from the lads 😂😂

    • Peaky

Where’s a Tiote when you need him….looking down I hope….god rest his soul..

      • Kenny

        pure krap Peaky

        • Peaky

          You’re right….long long season ahead….got any rum left…???

          • Kenny

Gone, there is a Peaky Blinders spiced rum, Google it
            😁

    • DC1964

      Could happen!

  • DC1964

SJP has been deathly quiet today! Hardly surprising!

    • nufcslf

      Should be empty…….

      • DC1964

        Sounds empty!

  • Kenny

another 90 mins of pure shyte from the Hoss, 🐴 misses an open goal

    • nufcslf

Yet it looks like he will be credited with the only shot on goal. What a joke.

      • Kenny

a joke ok, but nobody will be laughing

        • nufcslf

So very true. Palace will feed off this next week.

    • Mrkgw

And yet, Rafa keeps Rondon on the bench. Abysmal. Personally, Rafa can walk for me. He would be no loss.

      • Leicester Mag

Beginning to wonder.. whole thing is an Omniturd

      • Superdooperhooper

To be replaced by who ? Strachan moyes o’leary or sunbed brown? Which desperate journeyman yes man would do better with that lack of resources?

        • Mrkgw

The whole club is in tatters. Ashley is a shambolic owner and clearly in dispute with Rafa. Consequently, he won’t release a penny. Nor, will he likely sack Rafa given the compensation aspect. Rafa is playing a waiting game at the moment and is for me, trying to prove a point to Ashley. Something has to give as we, the supporters are being caught in the crossfire. Dismal football, inept tactics (in my opinion), refusal to play the strongest side etc, etc. Thoroughly fed up with it. If it takes Rafa to go for things to improve then so be it. Whether we like it or not, Ashley is going nowhere.

          • Superdooperhooper

I agree with a lot of what you say but if you think rafa going would be the answer to the club’s problems I would say is naive. We need to get rid of ashley by boycotting sjp and then we can argue about who the manager is and blah blah blah

  • Wezza

    GOAL! 1-2

  • Danimal

    Our favourite score.

  • Kenny

    Goal, Clark

  • Kenny

    Im away for a drink

    • MrShack66

      Have one for me.

    • Wezza

Have one for me mate. I don’t know why I allow it to depress me anymore.
Mike Ashley GET OUT OF OUR CLUB!!!!!!!!!

    • nufcslf

It’s only 10 to nine in the morning here, but doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all.

    • Leicester Mag

If Hos took a drink he’d miss his mouth

      • Peaky

If he did manage the drink he’d definitely pyss all over the bathroom floor…

      • gallowgate26

He’s miss his gob and then miss the bin with the bottle.. 🐴

  • Peaky

I’m seriously beginning to wonder if Rafa will last until next May..

    • nufcslf

And makes fatty look like he has every right to sack him. Scary and not good what really needs to happen.

    • Natturner26

He has 9 defeats in his last 11 matches.

  • Mrkgw

Poor again. We all want Ashley out. Rafa to go soon?

    • Danimal

What would that achieve? I think it could happen, as a distraction technique for Ashley. I really don’t think there are enough decent players here to even get the traditional new manager bounce.

      • Mrkgw

Reference, the new manager effect – reckon you might well be right. The squad is hapless.

        • Danimal

I must admit, if fatty did decide to panic spend in January, he’d probably want his next nodding dog manager in place first. God knows who that would be, Pulis still has a job so that leaves two of our much-loved former managers in the running.

          • Mrkgw

Yes, Pardew will be readying himself. If this continues, Ashley won’t wait too long to pull the trigger. Lets face it, we are dire to watch and failing in terms of results.

          • Danimal

We are in trouble with this squad but looking at the five games in isolation, if those had been dotted about the season instead of being the first five, would anyone really think they were that bad, or expect another manager to have done significantly better? With our squad you’d maybe expect the occasional win or draw against the top teams (like last season) but you could equally have expected some thumpings (as we’ve seen in recent years). I think the likes of Cardiff away is for us a 25% win, 50% draw, 25% defeat (again based on our record in recent years). I’m not saying it’s ok, just how it is – we’re not very good.

  • Leicester Mag

Only one answer Stop Ruckin Going!

    • kingfisher

      Spot on Leicester.👏👍

  • Peaky

Time to go out myself before we get a 12 chapter dissertation from Leazes 😳😳😳

    • kingfisher

Watch out for that local brew Peaky. 25 pints and you may feel a tad squiffy 🍻🍺

  • ToonTom

So sanity check before we all have a meltdown: Spurs, Chelsea, Citeh, and Arsenal in our first five games. One point at Cardiff should have been three, and we’d all be more calm at this point. So, one very very very very bad penalty, and now the season can start again in earnest. Mind, if we’re rubbish from here on in, we really do have a problem.

    • Leicester Mag

The game against Cardiff was one of the worst games I can ever recall. We have nothing but organisation. Can we beat lesser teams? I sadly have no faith we can

      • ToonTom

Yes, I’m concerned that that will turn out to be the case, but at least – for now – we can still hope that we’re in the bottom three because of the fixture schedule rather than because we are inherently relegation material. Time will tell, and probably very quickly.

        • Danimal

I think your first point is valid. Sadly I think the second part will happen too.

    • Benmagpie

      Best comment. Thanks.

    • gallowgate26

They were rubbish at Cardiff, shouldn’t have been (and wasn’t) three points. Didn’t deserve three points either.

      • ToonTom

I didn’t say we did deserve them. Had we stolen them, as we should have done, the league table would not look quite as ominous. That’s all I was saying. The Cardiff game was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen.

    • Billmag

Our best 11 might be ok Tom but injuries will determine where we finish I think.

      • Ashley-out

there is the problem, we can never field our best 11

        • Billmag

          True.

  • Billmag

What the hell happened to us in the second half, Kennedy oh dear ? Fernandez our best player even though he gave a free kick away which led to there goal but not much anywhere else im afraid.

    • Ashley-out

the players we have are just not good enough over 90 minutes, sooner or later they collapse as they did today

      • Billmag

        Correct.

      • Paul Patterson

That’s what happens when championship players play in the big boys league ..
