Aleksandar Mitrovic was always going to be an issue for Rafa Benitez and Newcastle United this season.
The great thing about Rafa is that he does what he thinks is right for the team/club, no matter what anybody else says.
Both he and Mitro himself, have made clear that there was no falling out, just simply that the striker doesn’t fit into the way the manager needs his centre-forward to play.
If Rafa Benitez had been allowed a £100m+ net spend in the summer like Fulham, rather than Ashley insisting on a £20m+ profit, then maybe he could have built an attacking formation that could have complimented the Serbian striker.
Instead, he wasn’t even allowed to spend that Aleksandar Mitrovic transfer fee, having to rely on a £2m loan deal for Salomon Rondon.
Mitrovic was always going to be an NUFC sideshow this season and Rafa would have been all too aware of this.
However, as I said above, he is still prepared to do what he thinks is the right thing for Newcastle United, despite the knowledge that there was every chance Mitro could thrive at Fulham.
He now has 16 goals in 22 Fulham starts and is currently joint top Premier League scorer with four goals.
Mitro is now also Serbia’s all time top goalscorer, getting another two very clever goals on Monday night in a 2-2 draw wit Romania, to make it 19 goals at a rate of one every 159 minutes for his country.
Aleksandar Mitrovic is well and truly on fire! 🔥😳
