It is eight days to go until the Premier League kicks off for Newcastle United and how do you think things are shaping up?

Only six days until summer transfer window deadline and five signings have been made so far.

Yoshinori getting his work permit finally, to join Kenedy, Schar, Dubravka and Ki Sung-yueng.

How do you think this squad would do this coming season if nobody else was added before the transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday?

Fair to say that all Newcastle fans weren’t expecting (not if any ambition was to be shown) the position to be a £25m+ surplus on deals in and out at this point.

Everybody expected/hoped for more on signings but would the ones made already be enough to see Newcastle United progress, stay the same, or survive?

So please vote below on where this current Newcastle United squad would finish in this upcoming season’s Premier League if no further signings are added.

A snapshot of how Newcastle fans are feeling at this moment in time…

  • Jezza

“Fair to say that all Newcastle fans weren’t expecting… the position to be a £25m+ surplus on deals in and out at this point.”

I was and once Lascelles is sold next Thursday afternoon my prediction, made back in May, of a £60 million profit will be spot on.

    • Mike Adam

I believe you will be wrong again.

      • SuperDesHamilton

He’d rather that was true even if it meant weakening the team he supports, just to be proved right

        • Mike Adam

          Yeah very sad

      • Wezza

I believe you are a troll, goodbye.

        • Mike Adam

Who cares, you are the real troll. Soon Jezza, Wezza, Leazes, and the rest of the self proclaimed troll police will have everyone else blocked and they will only be talking to themselves. Then the rest of us can talk football without their troll comments when someone disagrees with them!!!

        • Jezza

Yes, he’s one of them. Another positively identified ID used by those two Manchester glory seeker troll brothers.

          • Mike Adam

Wrong again!!! I don’t even live on the continent and my real name is right there in blue for everyone to see. So, “Another positively identified ID used by those two Manshester glory seeker troll others” a complete lie.

          • Wezza

They always say the same thing, attack you and Leazes and talk to their other troll accounts while defending the undefenceable.

          • Mike Adam

Talk about saying the same thing! People attack you because you spout lie after lie about others because they disagree with your little posse.

          • Jezza

Yes it seems those two brothers are constantly trying to discredit Leazes and myself because we were the ones who unmasked them as the Manchester supporting trolls they are.

          • Wezza

Yeah and they always slip up on their new aliases as well. Sad trolls.

          • Mike Adam

Why is your profile private? That is the question. You and Jezza always replying to each others posts, alittle FISHY to me.

          • Jezza

There must be 20 odd replies to my comments on this thread that are just showing up as “This user is blocked”. Don’t these two saddo’s realise I can’t see their trolling comments? Ha ha let them keep wasting their time and effort on something I’ll never read.

          • Mike Adam

But what you don’t realize is that I can be read by others who can see you for the fraud that you really are.

        • Mike Adam

You are wrong just as Jezza was and is. I have no secrets, who I am is out in the open. Mike Adam from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Your profile is private, why??? I challenge you or Jezza or anyone else to come up with one shred of evidence that I am anyone but who I say I am.

    • HarryHype59

For Ashley, that makes it a wonderful window. It’s all about short term profit for our blinkered owner.

    • Wezza

I agree. Now the trolls are talking to themselves, up voting one another, and denying it as usual. They’re so easy to spot.

      • Jezza

Ha ha, all I can see is “This user is blocked.” all over this thread. Much better that way.

        • Mike Adam

Keep going, you will only have about 4 or 5 people on your thread.

        • Wezza

Me too, before I blocked the latest Mike Adam one.

  • Alex

At best, the squad quality has stood still. Last seasons 10th was an over-achievement by about 4 places. Others have improved their quality and, importantly, have got some enthusiasm and motivation.

Our squad have been shafted on bonuses and won’t speak to the media. It’s not a happy place right now.

Rafa’s skills won’t stretch to pulling another rabbit out. In fact, he’s ‘down’ too, and everybody knows it.

Ashley might just be cutting the jugular this season. But, hey, there’ll be plenty still turning up to keep Ashley laughing.

    • ghostrider

I don’t believe it was an overachievement. More a case of underachievement of the teams below that we took advantage of.

      • Alex

        What logic is that?

I suppose it’s just as well for Citeh that we underachieved, eh?

        • ghostrider

          We didn’t underachieve.

    • TeessideMag

Lets not forget just how tight the bottom half was last season… it was only our final run of decent results that pushed us up the table to 10th, we could have just as easily been 17th.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

There is no reason why we cannot finish seventh this season if the fans, Manager and players stick together. Rafa should have signed a new contract if even for a year to settle things down but that was his choice. Now he needs to get on with his job and motivate the players including the five he has bought.

    • SuperDesHamilton

Why would he sign a new contract for a year when he has a year left? Best part of you ran down your mothers leg.

Still didn’t answer me about landmark either

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Another year’s extension to the one he had would have settled it down. What about the landmark sorry.

        • SuperDesHamilton

That it’s just that, a story.

Saying your pal drinks in landmark despite it being a restaurant you liar

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Mark my words you have not got a clue. Most of the top lads drink in there just ask Andy Mac or Yen the type of people who drink at the bar. All the top names have drank in there.

          • SuperDesHamilton

Yen owns the place! Him and his brother they got it off there dad and took it on. It’s a restaurant

          • Monkseaton Magpies

IT’ a bar on a match day go in yourself and ask them if the top lads have drunk in there over the last few years and the answer will be yes.

          • SuperDesHamilton

You’ve had an absolute nightmare here like, you’ve been rumbled & now you’re back tracking it’s really sad to see a grown man crumble under his lies.

You’d think I didn’t know all this stuff or people now you’ve been shown up

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Yen and Andy are good friends of mine and it’s you who has been rumbled. Go in there before any home game and there will be a good hundred drinking at the bar. All started years back. Also ask Yen his wife or Andy if they know me. The Gremlins used to use the bar all the time.

          • SuperDesHamilton

The hole is getting deeper you’re sinking without a trace here it’s not nice to see

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Well go in and ask them but the truth always hurts the militants on here. Less than three hundred single seats left for Spurs in main part of ground. Chris Holt and Dean Wilkins can put their charts and graphs in the bin.

          • SuperDesHamilton

            You’re having a nightmare mate

          • SuperDesHamilton

Changing the subject because you’ve been found out

          • SuperDesHamilton

What defines a ‘top lad’ is it a lad who’s top?

  • mentalman

i think we’ll have a similar season to last season, slow start and pull it out when teams start to drop off towards the end.

We have actually strengthened the first team although not as much as needed

    • FatParosite

      I can see why you’re named mentalman….

      • mentalman

        Yet another constructive comment

      • Jezza

Just one of the many names he uses to troll this forum.

        • Mike Adam

So what, he is at least talking about FOOTBALL

          • Mike Adam

But it is alright for you guys to spout off untruths about people on here. Who are the real trolls???

        • mentalman

as i keep telling people, prove that i am a troll. There are plenty on here who keep trying to name and shame trolls who are using more than one account themselves

    • Mike Adam

People will call me an Ashley supporter for saying this, I agree. The first team is stronger than last year. Dubravka and Kennedy for the entire season, Muto who will play much more than Mitro/Slimani and should contribute much more. Loved Merino but he contributed nothing in the second half while Sung-Yueng is his replacement. Shaar added, for Mbemba who played only 672 minutes. Let me reiterate, I am only saying we are stronger than last year at this time. MA is ripping this club apart! This club SHOULD be much more ambitious and should be spending on much higher level players. IMO this was the ideal window to take this club to the next level after finishing 10th and with the manager we currently have.

      • HarryHype59

The money our competitors in the lower half are spending is alarming. I don’t understand why Ashley is risking the long term future of the club for short term profit. A season of struggle is certain this season.

        • Mike Adam

I don’t either, This was the perfect window as I said for the club to take the next step.

        • mentalman

a lot of clubs like Brighton and wolves sometimes over stretch themselves and try to bring in too many players too fast, something we will never need to worry about

          • HarryHype59

            Both will finish above NUFC.

          • mentalman

            Time will tell

      • Kneebotherm8

Ashley had the same opportunity when Pardew finished fifth…….he’s got no ambition for the footballing side other than to finish 17th.

        • Mike Adam

That is a fantastic point. I do agree that he has NO ambition. It is beyond frustrating.

          • Kneebotherm8

Very frustrating……….that’s why,in the main,he’s a hated figure by the fans……..not that it bothers him one iota…..

          • Mike Adam

I am just starting to understand about Ashley and the climate there, as I am a foreign supporter of the club.

      • Mxpx

I agree with you that this set of players will be more effective than last year’s I think that muto isn’t as good as mitrovic but can’t be less effective as he might be able to get on the pitch merino for the new lad ki is probably also a downgrade but likely to be available more often so swings and roundabouts schaar I’d see as an upgrade on mbemba and Kennedy for all season is a huge upgrade

  • Desree

Even with signings I think Mike Ashley’s behaviour is having a significant negative impact on performance and morale.

I am concerned that we will have a repeat of 10 years ago where the toxicity brings everyone down.

And with the start we have, it could be like McLarens season.

    • ghostrider

You have no clue what Ashley’s behaviour is.
It seems the new signings are not reading into anything.
You’d think they would be saying ” ohhh I’m not going to Newcastle, they’ve got the nasty Mike Ashley.
      But they don’t…do they?
      Want to know why?
Because most players rarely get to see that part.
Stuart Pearce in all his time at West Ham, never spoke to Gold.

But it’s amazing how many people know what’s going on in the background of our club and especially the boardroom as well as in Ashley’s entire life.

    • Spectrum

Benitez should take some blame for our predicament too. Rondon is reportedly his number one target, even if he HAD the money to buy him outright. Do we really believe a player who has averaged four goals a season over the last few years, is the answer to our scoring problem ? Yet Rafa is fixated on him. This is bizarre management.

      • Desree

When Rafa has clearly said the club are not pursuing his number options. Nuggit

        • Spectrum

“Number options” ? Sorry, I’m not a cryptographer.

          • Desree

            Another troll

          • Spectrum

            Huh ? How am I a troll ?

  • FatParosite

We have not even stood still. If Lascelles is not sold by Thursday he will be gone by January as will Benitez in exactly the same way Caroll & Hougton went. Ashley is not taking a big gamble he’s already put away the money for another bounce back. Ohh get ready for Rafa smearing and fresh takeover lies.

    • ghostrider

I remember each year we always managed to sell all of our best players, according to the foresighted fans….until we actually didn’t sell them.
      This season is no different.
      But you know what?
If some club comes in with a 50 million bid for Lascelles and it turns his head and unsettles him, then he’d better be sold.

Until that happens, we move on as we always do.

    • HarryHype59

Maybe this is case! However, from a business perspective it is surely more cost effective to invest £25m on a genuine level EPL forward now, rather spend £60m trying to get promoted again next season.

  • Ba ba.

15th….. It will be tight but we’ll survive. Great team spirit and discipline will see us through
    Cardiff
    Huddersfield
    Watford
Doon for me plus Burnley not adding to squad and in Europe league will be stretched massively .. They will have to watch themselves… Hwtls

    • SuperDesHamilton

Great team spirit? The players were kicking off Wednesday & rightly so about bonuses

      • ghostrider

        Says who?

        • SuperDesHamilton

Says the mag read the report. Players refused to speak to the press, Benitez raging about fatty being tight

          • ghostrider

Players refusing to speak to the press does not mean over bonus payments.
It could be a number of reasons.

          • SuperDesHamilton

It stated it man, go read it it’s in black & white.

          • ghostrider

            Don’t mean it’s true.

          • SuperDesHamilton

You know better obviously, Bungalow Brains

  • SuperDesHamilton

A team like Burnley so far has stood still, we’ve regressed.

    • ghostrider

No we haven’t regressed, at all.

      • Spectrum

Really ? Given our situation, still think we’ll finish higher than the 10th place we managed last season ? If not, then we’ve regressed.

And if, as I suspect, we get relegated, what would you call that ?

        • ghostrider

If’s and but’s are all they are.
The facts will be at the end of the season.
Let’s see what facts we deal with.

In my opinion we’d have a far better chance this season if Rafa walked because as it is he’s is majorly disrupting the entire set up from players to fans to owner.

    • Don’t think for a second Burnley will be as good as last year. They are fighting relegation this year.

      • SuperDesHamilton

Of course they won’t be it was a one off. They’ll be comfortable. Don’t buy into the media rubbish about the uefa cup being some sort of albatross.

Anyway they play Basakehsir next so they’ll not be in Europe long

        • It is, Europe Games will stretch them thin.

          • SuperDesHamilton

So what’s the point in trying to finish higher up the league for everyone to complain about extra European games

          • Europa League in general is pointless. Not enough money made from TV rights, especially considering how much clubs are getting to stay in the Prem. Europa League makes sense for smaller country teams who can’t event earn a quarter of that (EL money) in their own domestic leagues.

          • SuperDesHamilton

What about the winner going in to the champs league?

Listening to the drivel spouted by all those rubbish middling English managers who started this lie & it’s spread. It’s so easy to blame the uefa cup, look at Pardew here. Other teams done it over the years as do teams in other countries

          • Only top teams who shouldn’t be in there in the first place win it. Take a look at the last 10 years’s winners and you’ll see. Teams like Burnley or Nice never have a chance.

          • SuperDesHamilton

Marseille done well last season from the start

          • Did they win it though? This competition only matters if you win it.

          • SuperDesHamilton

You said it’s pointless and only teams that shouldn’t be in it so well. Salzburg done well from that footballing hot spot that is Austria…

    • Monkseaton Magpies

Hoe have we regressed when we have only sold players Ashley never played after January. We have five new players the ones which went out were not part of Rafa ‘s plans so we have very much progressed from the team we had last August.

      • SuperDesHamilton

Has the squad got stronger? No

        • Monkseaton Magpies

Yes we have a decent keeper and Kenedy which we did not have last August plus a new £10m player.

          • SuperDesHamilton

You’re clutching at straws here…sad to see

          • Milo79

Dubravaka and Kenedy were already here.

We’ve replaced Mbemba with Schar and lost Lejeuene through injury, so we’re a centre half down on last season.

We’ve replaced Merino with Ki, which may or may not be an improvement.

We’ve replaced Mitrovic with Muto, which may or may not be an improvement.

Numerically we are weaker and we are certainly weaker in the middle of the defence.

Point to one area of this team where ‘we have very much progressed’?

        • Mike Adam

From this time last year and considering how players like Mitro 89min., Mbemba 672min., and Merino barely played in the second half at all, I believe we are stronger. Especially considering that we have Dubravka and Kennedy for the entire season.

          • SuperDesHamilton

Least Merino & Mbemba were options we could call upon if needed we are paper thin

          • Mike Adam

We are I agree, but based on who we have now compared to last year at this time and taking into consideration how Rafa used Mitro, Mbemba, and Merino we are stronger IMO.

          • Spectrum

Agreed. We need more creativity on the pitch. If and when Shelvey is injured, who’s going to provide it ? And even if they do, who’s going to score from it ?

We’re going down, and I hate to say it, but we deserve to.

      • Spectrum

We’ve certainly regressed as far as our objectives for the season are concerned.

  • Wezza

No matter how much profit we make you assume Rafa won’t have money to sign anyone in January either. All this is having a negative impact on the players. Rafa did a great job last season but with MA meddling again I’ve went for 19th. I do think Lascelles will be sold, with PR excuses lined up, Rafa may or may not walk and no money for improvements – relegation looks nailed on.

  • Paul Patterson

    15th for me. Injuries permitting..

    • Spectrum

      That’s optimistic, not realistic.

  • Spectrum

    Hmmm. That’s around 39% who think we’ll finish 18th to 20th ( relegated ). I do too.

With the exception of Maolida and Schar, Benitez is going after the wrong players, even allowing for the tight money situation. And the one(s) who do the negotiating of the deals ( Charnley ? ) are seemingly incompetent.

  • HarryHype59

Fatty needs to get his head out of his gargantuan ar#e and allow Rafa to spend £25m + on a genuine epl quality no 9 who can lead the line. Otherwise relegation is highly likely.
