Which 11 players would you pick in the Newcastle team v Manchester City on Saturday late afternoon?

We have put together a list of the 20 players who could potentially be selected for this game.

Rafa’s team still looking for their first win of the season.

Manchester City had a minor blip when trailing at Wolves last weekend and eventually rescuing a point – but those occasions are once again set to be rare occurrences this season with the team/squad that they have got.

Rafa already had Lejeune and Hayden missing, with Shelvey, Ritchie and Manquillo now confirmed on Friday as also ruled out.

Some interesting choices to be made as Rafa Benitez looks to land an unexpected positive result.

So who would be in your Newcastle v Manchester City team on Saturday?

  • BanJones

Dubravka Elliott Darlow Sterry Yedlin Fernandez Schar Lascelles Dummy Diame Shelvey

    • GToon

Yep. Maybe bring Woodman back too in case we need a fourth keeper.

      • Sickandtired

And the hospital bed for the injured Shelvey. Extra man?

  • I went for 3 in goal, 7 in defence and Rondon up front

    • Carverlier football

Up front? Nah, you need someone to shield that defense…

      • Mike D

        What was he thinking?

    • Mike D

We need the four players with the strongest arms to hang from the crossbar for 90 minutes. Maybe we have a few really tall players instead. Put two keepers in front of them: One in the 6 yard box, one in the 18. Then play 5 defenders.

  • Paul Patterson

De Gea, Ramos, Van Djik, Rudiger, Kimpebe, Salah, Hazard, Coutinho Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar.

    • Dingus

Ramos?! Oh aye, Manquillo’s injured 😆

    • GToon

Imagine if that actually was our team. I bet fatty wouldn’t be able to sleep the night before the transfer window opened.

  • Kenny

I can see one loner up front be like an LGBT at a Rugby do

  • Ba ba.

    Four nil City ..! next

  • Mrkgw

Picked. Struggling with two more – possibly murphy, possibly Ki. Problem is that few if any, impressed vs Forest. Shows how paper thin this squad really is.

  • Billmag

Aguero hat trick maybe, but I hope not I just want this game out of the way really this is what fatty has reduced me to, I used to be the eternal optimist no matter who we played.

  • Cockneytrev

I honestly can’t pick 11 from that pass poor set of players,,,
I’d love to see what these so called expert pundits could do with that shower,,
The worst squad since the early 90s…
THe club is a complete shambles….

  • Wezza

Missing key players. Squad wasn’t improved. just cheap replacements or loans.
Might as well try and have a go.
I didn’t pick Kenedy as his tracking back and workrate lately has been shocking.
MA is killing this club I can’t even get excited for a game against the champions.

  • Danimal

Can I pick 11 players from bigger clubs like Fulham, Brighton, Crystal Palace etc?

  • Sickandtired

Seriously, 11 real buses would come in handy.

  • Steviemagpie

Minibus in 3 hours or just sleep in 😁

  • Kenny

    Rafabus has arrived in Manchester

  • Leicester Mag

I think the answer is 13.

On a serious note. 10years ago Man city were taken over. While never expected to match city the truth is investment drives investment. The way we’ve been run isn’t prudent it is self defeating and robs us of not just hope but finance. Yet still we support this sick parody.

    • kingfisher

As far as Ashley is concerned Leicester, the 50,000 fans who fill SJP are the fans that just keep on giving.💸💸💸

  • GlasgowMag

Just woke up with a hangover from a works night out!! had a quick look at this article is that really our squad for today’s game!! Bloody hell where [email protected]!!

  • foggy

We all know that Rafa is the best manager we’ve had at St James since the great Sir Bobby. Rafa though should not be above some criticism for the park the bus tactics especially at home. If it were fat sham, pardspew or schteve employing those tactics they’d all be getting a right hammering from the fans.
Undoubtedly Rafa has had his hands tied by the fat oaf of an owner but if we are going to fail this season then atleast we should do so by having a right go in every match rather than parking the bus. May as well rename the stadium Worswick Street.

  • kingfisher

Spot on foggy,I posted the same comment yesterday. If we are to be relegated, then go down fighting.Play attacking exciting football instead of being ultra defensive, and that might give the players some confidence.

  • Tweed Mag

Well, who knows. Injuries and the well documented abysmal transfer window makes things very difficult for Rafa and the lads. Best of luck though, lets hope they give them a game, not a run out.

  • kingfisher

Does the end justify the means? Is premiership survival that important if it means playing defensive, boring, unexciting football and going through the whole season not enjoying watching Newcastle play and being slaughtered by the media?

Personally I would rather play to win, play good football and if we get relegated then so be it,because at this moment in time and indeed during the whole of Ashleys reign, there has been absolutely no advantage being in the Premiership as Ashley does’nt spend the profits and we have stagnated and became a yoyo club,so what’s the point?

  • Vodkamagpie

5-0 to man city. Penalty/penalties, red card, totally outplayed. No team spirit, chaos, depression, will be gained after this game. Why are we in this situation?, because rafa hasn’t signed a new contract. Rafa needs to leave after this game, and we need a different approach going forward.

    • Cockneytrev

    • Superdooperhooper

So it’s all rafa’s fault is it ? No-one is beyond criticism but can’t you think of a bigger villain of the piece? Give over man

    • SuperDesHamilton

      Good prediction

      • Vodkamagpie

Everyone thought the same thing. Newcastle team played well, pushed higher up, rondon was fantastic holding the ball, bringing the team forward.

        • SuperDesHamilton

          They didn’t

          • Vodkamagpie

            Yes they did

          • SuperDesHamilton

            Proof or didn’t happen. Liar

          • Vodkamagpie

What are you on about?, probably 99% of newcastle fans thought the score would be 3-0 + loss

          • SuperDesHamilton

            Lies. Proof?

    • SuperDesHamilton

      Proof of this?

  • JohnCornwell’sHair

7-0 could be more if City don’t get bored.

  • WildBill

Doesn’t matter what 11 start. We are losing today whoever plays. You can write off some games, this is the biggest example of that. A full strength team should have been played at Forest. At least some confidence would have been there had we won that one. 3-0 City.

    • Superdooperhooper

Can’t see the point of ‘saving’ our best players for a game we’ll almost certainly lose anyway . Would rather have played our first team on Wednesday and just wrote this one off . Gotta disagree with rafa there
