Steve Howey played under Kevin Keegan at Newcastle United, the centre-forward turned centre-back prospering under KK, ending up in the England team.

This all seems a long long time ago and to an extent it is.

Kevin Keegan is the greatest Newcastle manager most of us have seen, Sir Bobby Robson up there with him, now Rafa Benitez capable of joining them.

However, whilst Rafa has all the expertise and experience, it is impossible for him to get close to the great days and relative success Sir Bobby and Kevin Keegan brought to the club.

It is just a sick joke that the fans and Rafa Benitez are in a position now, where Premier League survival would count as success this season, based on the squad investment at other clubs and the lack of this at NUFC due to Mike Ashley.

Sky Sports gave Steve Howey the chance to enlighten the audience about Mike Ashley and Newcastle United and he didn’t hold back…

Steve Howey talking on Sky Sports following Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest:

The Premier League is all important:

“It’s not a great start to the season and this was always going to be a difficult game anyway.

“You can argue, does Rafa play his strongest team just so they can get that first win? He has come out and said this is an opportunity to the fringe players.

“Look they’re out of the cup, it’s disappointing and I think it will be a case that Rafa and the players will be disappointed, so will the fans but I think the manager is more or less concentrating on what can he do in the Premier League.

“We all would like a cup run but the league is the most important thing.”

How does it get better for Newcastle United?:

“It’s going to be very difficult for it to get better.

“You look at the teams that Newcastle have got coming up in the league and the fans are very very frustrated with what happened in the transfer market.

“There has been a lot criticism coming out about Newcastle fans, people saying they think they’ve got a God given right, that is absolute nonsense.

“That is not the case.

“You get these people coming on saying this and that about the club and they haven’t got a clue what is going on.

“The fact is, Newcastle fans are disappointed because they can’t see the club moving forward, they can’t see the club progressing in any way. They had a perfect opportunity at the end of last season they finished 10th…

“Newcastle made a £123m from the Premier League and TV last year plus £43.5 million in player sales, now Mike Ashley was on Sky Sports and used this as a platform to say ‘Rafa Benitez will get every penny the club generates’, that has not been the case.

“He (Ashley) said he wants to sell the club, that hasn’t been the case, or he has put it up for too much money.

“Rafa Benitez should have been at least given the money he got for selling the players but he didn’t, that is what narks the fans.

“Rafa Benitez has spent £13 million on THREE players which doesn’t get you anywhere in this day and age.

“Newcastle fans are not asking, like Mike Ashley said, (for the kind of money) where can compete with the likes of Manchester City, we’re not expecting to compete with Manchester City or Liverpool or Chelsea, we’re not.

“We’d just like to compete with the rest of the teams.

When you look at teams like Huddersfield, fair play to them, they have gone out and spent £17,5m on one player. Bournemouth broke their record and paid £15m for Jordan Ibe and just paid £25m for another player this summer.

“Look at Newcastle United, Rafa has not been given the opportunity to bring players in.

“You have got a world class manager and he’s not been given the tools to work. If he has not been given finance and finished 10th – how good can he be if he’s given a little bit of money behind him because at the moment he’s working with hands behind his back.”

Before Mike Ashley arrived:

“Before Ashley came we were playing in the Champions League and in 10 years I think we finished second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh, two FA Cup finals, two semi-finals, Champions League, UEFA Cup

“We had the most expensive striker in the world, Alan Shearer in 1996, broke their record again in 2005 for Michael Owen and that’s it…it’s stopped.

“It’s galling for the fans when they can see all these other teams breaking records, when Newcastle’s record is £16m.”

What next?:

“Rafa is the one that the fans are pinning their hopes on, he is Newcastle’s biggest asset and why would you get rid of your best asset?

“You lose him and when you haven’t got the strength and depth of quality, which Newcastle haven’t got,  they are going to struggle.

“Rafa Benitez has turned around and said he would love this to be a five or ten year plan.

“But if you look at the ground, it needs work on.

“The academy needs work on.

“There was a picture on social media, fans go to the ground and they pay their hard earned money for a ticket to watch the game and the facilities… the toilets, absolutely disgusting.

“This shouldn’t be happening..fans see the funds not getting spent on the pitch, not getting spent in the academy, and obviously Mike Ashley seems to be in a position where he can’t be bothered anymore and the club seems to be getting neglected.

“Where has £123 million gone? I don’t understand where it goes.”

  • Tony English

Spoken like a true fan, an informed ex-player on Sky at last.
This is the least we should expect of our old lads in the media.

    • Kenny

      Ah, Swiss Toni 😜

      • Tony English

        G’morning Kenn Dudd.

  • Kenny

About time we had somebody on Sky saying how it is with the vermin owner 🐀

    • Wor Lass

the commentator on last night`s game seemd quite clued up as well – made a few good points about Rafa not being backed, fans not expecting cups but wanting progress etc.

      • Kenny

I switched off at the final whistle missed the aftermath

        • Wor Lass

Me too – this was the guy talking during the match. Don`t know who it was but he seemed more informed than most.

          • Carverlier football

            It was Don Goodman

          • Wor Lass

Aagh! The mackem explosion in a matress factory!

      • Carverlier football

And that from a former mackem player too. Hinchcliffe was supportive on Sunday too. Looks like the pro-Ashley memo didn’t get to the Sky commentary box…

        • Wor Lass

Waas that who took Souness to task about his “sooner lose 3-0 nonsense”? Souness didn`t like that one bit.

          • SuperDesHamilton

That was mackem lad wasn’t it? His name completely avoids me at the minute

  • Marty had

Howey was excellent & well informed last night. Hate it when the likes of SKY just have these lazy interviews with ex Toon players & they just trot out the same old tosh of big club and huge fanbase, never won a trophy but don’t tell it how it is – & fail to slag Ashley off. Here comes Given on Talksport so no doubt he will say the same old boring tosh…

    • Kev Newcastle England

      Will he????

  • Wor Lass

That was a disgraceful performance. Bottom of the heap, for me, were Atsu and Kenedy. Atsu just isn`t good enough and I can`t understand why he stayed on the pitch especially when Murphy came on. Kenedy doesn`t look fit (how much paternity leave did he take during the pre-season, FFS?) and went back towards our goal nearly every time he got the ball, before presenting it to the opposition. Schar looks like the Hoss would beat him in a straight race and both full backs seemed scared to support the wings. Fernandez looked decent and Longstaff tried hard but got caught in posession too often. Sterry did his best but looked a bit out of his depth, to be fair. I thought Ki and Muto worked hard but are both a bit lightweight against Championship competitors. The Hoss – usual comment – tried hard but largely ineffectual. Darlow, I thought, was a bit unlucky. The cross for the first goal was superb. He wanted to come but it just curled too far away from him – a really good goal. he got a hand to the second one but couldn`t do much more – why was Kenedy walking towards his man? Interestingly, our goal involved the three subs and the much-maligned Perez had a stonewall penalty turned down as well.

    • Ashley-out

Kenedy is a shadow of what he was last season, could be as you say fitness problems

      • Wor Lass

He looks devoid of all confidence.

        • Ashley-out

pressure, a young lad in a team devoid of ideas & quality

      • NUFCDan

Going from having barely played first team football to being our ‘superstar’ player who is expected to do something every time he gets the ball must weight heavy.

    • Sickandtired

Buy and pay with peanuts then don’t be surprised at the Monkeys you recruit.

  • TheFatController

There are now more voices of reason, but I think the public are aware now of the ‘neglect’, MOTD2 and Sky have had coverage so our position has been made clear.

Also, even if you were a member of the public and unaware and heard Andy gray saying ‘Rafa spent £100m last year on 20 players’, anyone sensible would work out that Fulham spent that on 5 or 6 players, and that 20 players would mean Rafa’s squad cost £100m in total.

So even in getting wrong, Andy Gray tell the public we average £5m per squad member.

Ashley must be feeling the heat. If we are lucky it will allow potential buyers to prise the club out of his greedy mitts.

All that matters now is not convincing anyone else he should rightly go, but convincing him he should go.

Destroy SD anyway you can. Beg non toon family and friends to stop spending. They even had an ad up on the scoreboard advertising that a new flannels store is opening in Newcastle in 2019 – I think we know what’s needed to ‘help’ Mike get that off the ground…

  • mactoon

Excellent comments from Howey and a good snapshot of where we are. Nice to see a pundit telling the truth instead of blindly backing Ashley.

Just listened to Given and he’s saying much the same, Rafa is working with his hands tied behind his back and the squad isn’t strong enough. The fans want to see the club having a go and they should have used the momentum from the 3-0 win over Chelsea last season to have a go instead of what happened last week.

  • Jimblag23

The only things I liked yesterday were Rondons finish and Joselu and Perez’s anger. Those two players often seem like robots, so it was refreshing to see them fighting against the opposition and officials respectively.

It was relieving Howey came out with what he did. I was worried he’d been turned to the dark side when he rocked up on sky. Because of his talking sense and obviously knowing more about the situation, Warburton was backing him and the snake Bellamy didn’t really have much to come back with and was generally sympathetic with the club. He still came out with…”I’m a massive fan of Mike Ashley, as a business man” moron, is he also a fan of Hitler…as a public speaker.

    • Sickandtired

I think he means he’s a massive fan of Ashley’s ability to shaft everyone he comes into contact with and makes heaps of money for himself.
Pretty sure the 80% of SD workforce on zero hours don’t agree with him. Nor the USC staff thrown onto the dole. Nor the HoF staff who will be the latest to suffer from SD ownership.

  • East Durham Mag

Steve Howey absolutely nailed it and Bellendemy could only sit and listen. Total respect to Steve for putting things straight.

  • SuperDesHamilton

Absolutely spot on Steve Howey! Destroying every single myth concocted by fatty & sky sports as well, perfect

  • gordon

I have to be honest and say I am completely losing interest in this shambles of a club. Pains me to say but I’m 50 now and always held on to the hope that one day we would win something. Unfortunately it looks like fatboy is going to be here for the duration and it is unlikely I will see this ambition realised before the grim reaper comes calling. This is why I loathe Ashley so much; he has taken away not just the hope but the enjoyment in winning – what’s the point in hoping we finish in a decent position when he will just use it as justification for lack of investment in the team and facilities. The situation reminds me so much of my childhood; I had a violent alcoholic for a father and the things I hear from Ashley and his cronies bring back so many memories: I gave you money for beans on toast yesterday and the kids were fine so you can have money for beans on toast today and tomorrow/You’ll never leave me because you can’t get and don’t deserve any better etc etc. I think I’m realising that the relationship between myself and an NUFC owned by Ashley is, essentially, an abusive one. Time to walk away.

    • Wezza

Spot on Gordon. I’m not setting foot inside the ground until he is gone – I can understand people saying support the team etc. But I think deep down the team want Ashley out as well.
We should pick one sky game maybe a Monday night and all boycott. Probably won’t happen unless Rafa goes.

      • gordon

Won’t happen because of the Monkseatons of this world – the type who, if Ashley was pictured holding a dead baby by the ankle in each hand, would claim he had saved them from a life of destitution! Cannot figure him out – at first I thought he must be a troll because nobody could be so utterly and phenomenally thick – now I think he really believes this schitt. I’d actually love to get inside his head just to see how a mind like that actually ticks.

        • Wezza

If Leazes and Jezza are wrong, and he is a real NUFC fan then he is deluded to say the least. I wouldn’t even want to get inside his head he would probably bore people to death. Thankfully theres a block button.

          • Jezza

We are not wrong, marra. How many real NUFC fans hate Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer yet love Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley?

          • Ron

We’re Geordies we’re mental we’re off wa unking heads.

            There’s your answer

          • Wezza

Oh he is clearly a troll no doubt about it just Brian Standen is adamant Monkseaton is a real person.

          • Kev Newcastle England

            None

        • Peaky

😂🤣 There’s an idea….an updated version of “Being John Malcovich”……”Being Monkseaton Magpie”…….starring Gordon..

          • gordon

It’s actually a pretty hideous thought and I thoroughly regret it ever crossed my mind in the first place!

    • Peaky

Nice one Gordon….I’m 3 years older than yourself and your post mirrors my sentiments exactly.

      • DC1964

Me too, I’m also 3 years older.

        • TheFatController

Mugpie must be 4 centuries older?

      • Kev Newcastle England

58 and had enough around 7 years ago.match going for 40 years season ticket 27 years.

    • Ken

We’ll said Gordon I,’m 10 years older so have had more of it, I be just lost interest and no longer Canberra bothered while Ashley is asset stripping our club and not only undermining the manager but the players and fans too. What’s the answer I do not know but Ashley has to go and go now while there is still a straw to cling to. I drstest that man for what he is doing.

    • TheFatController

You are right, and I’ve said it on here many times, the apologists use ‘abuser’ tactics. Things like, no one will want you, as you say, or the old chestnut, you may get worse’(aka ‘an asset stripper’ – oh the irony when Ashley said that.

‘Careful what you with for’ is not really any justification for Ashley’s neglect to be condoned.

You wouldn’t say ‘careful you don’t get rid of jimmy savile, and end up with a Jeffrey Dharma ..’

    • Tony English

I’m not far behind you mate, 47 years old with the same waning interest – I often question why I’m wasting my time.

Hunting out a pub to watch the comatose non-performance against Cardiff, whilst my kids and missus were on the beach….I questioned my sanity….

…and the wisdom of passing on this addiction to my ten year old boy, who a couple of years back was so excited that he’d got a Colloccini sticker in his pack that he didn’t bother to look up and see the Arsenal open top bus parading the FA Cup drive past the end of our street.

      Madness.

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Hunting out a pub you should have been there at the match a total disgrace never mind the beach.

        • Tony English

          True.

Because no football fan in history has ever been the other side of the globe and had to seek out a TV to watch the match.

I sometimes wonder why they televise football as no true fan has ever watched a match on an TV.

I hope you remember to flog yourself with a knotted rope for watching MOTD and being a naughty boy.

          • Kev Newcastle England

I used to take my Toon tops on holiday abroad for over 30 years, not now, ashamed embarrassed and no pride left

        • Kev Newcastle England

          You fkn absolute moron

    • Ron

      He’s replaced hope for hate!

    • Angelswithdirtyfaces

I remember the Hereford game.. so have suffered even more than you…

      • gordon

Thing is, even back then there was hope, back in the 80s when I started going there was always hope (even with Pat feckin Heard in the team!). Now the only hope is somebody losing it and setting about fatboy with a very large mallet. Lose to Hereford now and it’s: oh well, at least we can concentrate on maintaining our schitty league position and giving fatboy an excuse to prolong the agony.

    • Oldgeordie

As those of you who read my occasional comments know I am 82 and my first game at SJP was 5th Oct. 1948 – the days of Milburn, Walker, Brennan, Harvey, Ernie Taylor, followed by the Robledo brothers and Bobby Mitchell.Happy days to watch. I was fortunate enough to meet all those guys. I even bought a Newcastle United house in Fenham where the Robledos lived. George visited us when he brought a youth team to Newcastle in the late 1970s. Happy memories now being soured by an unscrupulous owner. It is so sad that one man is killing our club and making people like me and all those who are so fed up with him that we are losing interest in one of England’s great clubs. What do these plastic pundits know about football as it should be? and I don’t just mean the playing side, the family engagement with players and club staff seems to have gone. I remember John Hall coming up to my wife and complimenting her on her dress when we were having lunch one Sunday in SJP restaurant. Ashley doesn’t even attend the matches never mind mix with the supporters. Sign of old age when the past is always better than the present. I don’t know the answer but I wish something or someone would rescue our club.

      • Brent Jackson

Post of the week..too much talk of money and not enough of tradition and community, too many tories on here not enough real Geordies.
First fellow auld git and true supporter for a while.

    • East Durham Mag

I haven’t been for four years now. Its a hard thing to do and i have almost cracked and gone to a game but held out. I don’t want to give my money to Fatty. Sad days indeed.

    • David2211

Had to sign in just to say what a great comment this is Gordon. I feel silly trying to echo your sentiments as I am turning 25 this year, but it’s all there. This is just abuse and I don’t celebrate goals or wins anymore because ultimately they mean nothing. MA has killed this club.

    • Monkseaton Magpies

So take it you did not even like your Dad never mind Newcastle just sums you lot up really. Very proud of my dad he is nearly ninety and went to the Chelsea game last season top bloke as was my mother as brought me up to be a real supporter.

      • gordon

You really don’t want to go there ‘mate’. My dad regularly put my mum in hospital including getting his mates to assist in the beatings, as well as leaving me and brothers to go hungry while he pished the money away at the pub, so no, I have to say I didn’t particularly like him (would you be proud of your father if he was guilty of that?). And as for suggesting my mum didn’t bring me up properly – too f*****g far ‘mate’ you seriously need to watch your f*****g mouth

        • Monkseaton Magpies

Well support the club and stop giving me stick if you cannot take it back. My comment was my Mother and Father brought me up to support the club through thick and thin what is wrong with that.

          • gordon

I can take as much stick as you give me; unfortunately my dead mother can’t so I have to stick up for her. You apparently weren’t raised well enough to realise what you said there was bang out of f*****g order nor to be decent enough to apologise for the unacceptable. Would your mother be proud of you abusing another man’s dead mother. I think not, I think she’d be thoroughly f****g ashamed of you. F****g lowlife.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

My mother long dead to but not just you but all protesters should support the club and show more respect.

          • gordon

Don’t f****g tell me how I should support the club. And have the guts and decency to act like a man and apologise for what you said about my mother ………f*****g coward and a f*****g lowlife. I used to think you were just a thick [email protected], now I realise what an odious, cowardly little runt you are. You and Ashley are well-suited to each other

          • Monkseaton Magpies

First of all I did not know your mother was dead and the comment was a general one about all protesters. Please accept my apologies if I have caused any offence nor was I to know of your domestic situation. I have had far worse said about my mother and had death threats on here and take more stick than anyone else. However seems I have upset you so truly sorry about that.

          • gordon

Fair enough I accept your apology in the spirit with which it is given and it is totally unacceptable for anyone to abuse your family because of what you say so please accept my apologies on behalf of all the decent posters on here for that happening to you. As regards abusing you, however, it is open season on that lol. Maybe we should all remember not to say things on here we wouldn’t in real life (in my defence if anyone had abused my mother like that in real life I would have said and done a lot worse – jesus, I battered a kid once for slagging my dad and I detested that bastad!)

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Once again sorry there was no offence intended and understand why you took it the way you did. My passion for the club has got me into a lot of trouble over the years and even in my fifties I have not learned to calm down. Maybe one day hopefully.

          • gordon

Yeah likewise – I was probably a bit over-zealous in some of the insults I hurled your way but, like you say, passion for the club and all that. Maybe I need to realise we all want the best for the club even if we radically disagree on how that can be achieved so, hands up, I apologise for the copious insults I have hurled your way. Maybe on your part, stop calling people bad supporters for holding the opposite viewpoint to yourself; they’re not they just differ in how we can achieve the best way forward. Anyway, I think I need a lie-down due the unexpected outpouring of good will on here😆

          • Tony English

Sorted. Do you boys need me to get you a room?

          • gordon

Probably best not leave us in a room together in all honesty. While I can be magnanimous in accepting his apology, ten minutes listening to his views on Ashley and one of us would not be leaving that room!

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Could not agree more there is always Saturday. We have thousands of supporters who go to no games and love them all as that is all they talk about down the pub great blokes.

          • Brent Jackson

            ‘too’

          • Tony English

            100% agree.

Stop defending yourself Monk, just put it to one side as ill judged ‘banter’ and apologise.

          • gordon

Thanks for that mate – I probably am a bit over-sensitive when it comes to mum but she had a horrendous life for nearly 30 years and I have this weird need to defend her honour. Probably some weird psychological schitt because I wasn’t able to defend her when I was a kid. Wow, some rich [email protected] would probably pay thousands for that analysis!

          • Tony English

            No worries man.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

See below the comment was not meant to be taken as it was
            so apology below.

          • Tony English

            Sound.

          • Wezza

Just block him mate, seriously. They’re all the same, they live to wind us up, they thrive on it, they’ve all been exposed before. Just block them.

      • SuperDesHamilton

Your mother was a top bloke? 😂

      • Tony English

When you’re making comments trying to bolster your position as self appointed ‘superfan’ – be as blunt as you like – but I think you really need to be a tad more considerate when criticising folks family history and personal relationships.

Would maybe be an idea to offer Gordon an apology.

      • Toon Arnie

        You only support Ashley ?

      • Kev Newcastle England

        Cringeworthy embarrassing w anker

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Before Mike Ashley arrived we finished five points off relegation and the banks were pulling the plug full stop. The party was well and truly over with Ashley left to pick up the pieces. No excuse what so ever for for not playing Perez and Rondon last night a total disgrace.

    • gordon

Why should we be in a position where we are unable to rotate players because the squad is so feckin threadbare – or do you expect Perez/Rondon to play in all 38 league games plus all 2 of our cup games. Enjoy your f*%&*g beans on toast because it’s all you’re going to get for dinner off Ashley. Clueless [email protected]

      • Monkseaton Magpies

I expect at least Perez to play as he did not against Chelsea a total disgrace.

    • gordon

Interesting – you have stated on many occasions how happy you are with our summer signings and the quality of the squad. Are you now saying you don’t have confidence in said squad players? Very interesting indeed.

      • panther

he just makes it up as he goes, fishing for reactions

    • Jonathan Drape-Comyn

The banks were pulling the plug? Give over man, honestly, the absolute nonsense that comes out of your mouth is incredible.

Maybe you are right, maybe we would have ended up like Leeds or Portsmouth if it wasn’t for Mike Ashley. Except come next season, Leeds will be in the division ahead of us, and we might be in the same league as Portsmouth. Thank god for Mike Ashley though.

      • Wezza

See, some people think he is a real Newcastle fan.
I don’t get how any real nufc fan can support Ashley.
He is a pure troll who after that transfer window says Rafa still gets every penny. Pure trolling. Just block the moron.

        • Toon Arnie

He’s not a Newcastle fan at all – same as Ghostliar.
Fleckman i’m not so sure about – he’s either a troll or a total fruit loop ! Either way his posts are sometimes quite entertaining while these two apologists are becoming painfully dull and predictable.

          • Wezza

Apparently Fleckman is one of the trolls too. They all like to fool people by giving out numbers and lie and say nothing when they’re called on it. Just block them.

      • Angelswithdirtyfaces

Yep.. it’s total exaggeration for effect. Ashley is our saviour because he stopped the club becoming bankrupt. NOT. Totally disregards the fact he did not bother with due diligence and then had to inject more funds and has used the club for capital gains – e.g. Strawberry Place etc.,

      • Monkseaton Magpies

If you knew anything about Newcastle United which who seem to know very little being a Celtic fan the banks during the last season of Hall and Shepherd pulled the plug and no more loans only repayments. Read the excellent book by our former Chairman Dennis Cassidy the day the promises had to stop. Excellent page the price of failure £143,936,492 taken out the club in dividends, shares and wages. Hope you putting in as much effort to change the board at Celtic as that club is a shambles out the Champions League again before August. To think a team that won the cup in 1967 has fallen so low is a disgrace. Bankier OUT.

        • Jonathan Drape-Comyn

It says a lot about you that you can’t write a reply to me without mentioning the fact that my family supports another football team. Sad man.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

I support Morpeth and Whitley Bay but only on days Newcastle are not playing. Clearly you heart lies else where it is plain to see by your posts.

      • Wor Lass

Brian Standen says he met up with Monksatan before the match last week and that he really is a geordie supporter. I`m prepared to take Brian at his word. I don`t know how he proved his madman credentials and I do think he`s a total wind-up merchant but it seems he isn`t from Manchester and does go to the match. Perhaps Brian could give us some more details – I haven`t read anything directly from him myself except confirmation that he isn`t an old mate of mine.

    • East Durham Mag

      You need a padded cell.

      • gordon

🤣🤣 the best, most succinct, reply anybody has ever made to this fruit loop – took five words to say what would have taken me 3 paragraphs 👍

        • East Durham Mag

Thanks Gordon. There’s only so much you can take and i had reached it with this 🔔end.

    • TheFatController

So you criticise Hall and Shepherd for pulling money out of the club unlike your mate Ashley but then claim he took over a club making no money?

Which is it Mugpie? Here’s a clue, it can’t be both …

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Tyey took £144m out of the club and left it bankrupt.

      • Ben Jones

It wasn’t making money. 85m turnover and Michael Owen on 110k a week with a transfer fee costing 4m a season for the 4 he was here . Owen alone was costing around 12% of our turnover figure. Unsustainable son but we all know you come from the school of non-economics

    • Toon Arnie

Monkwearmouth – this is flaky at best. Did you not actually understand what Howey was discussing last night – it wasn’t about one game in isolation ? This is one of your weakest posts yet and there is an air of desperation coming from you and other apologists recently.

    • Toon Arnie

Yeah he picked up the pieces and got us relegated as well as showing a total lack of respect to Shearer, Hughton and Keegan and then got exposed as a liar in a court of law. Another badly thought out post Monkwearmouth.

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Not badly thought out at all. Most people believe we were in the Champions league when Ashley took over but we were a club waiting for relegation. Howey got this badly wrong.

        • gordon

Ah so you are still there – any chance of a reply to the question I have already asked you twice:
Do you have confidence that our squad is good enough? If yes, why are you so irate about Perez and Rondon’s omission? If no, why have you consistently stated throughout the summer how happy you are with our spending and the squad?

    • drc74

again spxxkter five points off relegation is better than two relegations

  • Sickandtired

If only Howey got a seat on Sky Sports instead of Judas Ameobi.

    • Mrkgw

My thoughts exactly – Ameobi should take heed.

      • SuperDesHamilton

Not a chance! Howey is probably banned for life now for speaking the truth

        • Mrkgw

          Quite probably!

  • Wezza

Spot on Howey. If only the rest of the country listened to him then they’d know the truth of what is going on here.
The every penny lie was the final straw and you still get trolls claiming Rafa does still get every penny.

    • Ron

He does get every penny, it’s just when 100 arrive they turn into pounds and that clearly needs tucking up in the bank. Pennies for spending pounds for banking!

  • GToon

Good for him. Slowly but surely people are starting to find out about that scumbag Ashley.

    • Angelswithdirtyfaces

i think most of us know already tbh

      • GToon

I meant the wider audience, not Newcastle fans. Hopefully he will start to get a bad reputation across the country not just for the way he treats his staff but how he runs/ruins our club too. He hasn’t got a thick skin as shown by his special end of season broadcasts. The more we and the football world get at him the better chance we have of getting rid of him.

  • Mrkgw

He spoke very well and his words were of comfort to supporters on what proved to have been a dismal night of football.

    • Toon Arnie

He was excellent throughout. I thought Warburton was as well given he has no allegiance with the club. Even Bellamy ( what a player he was for us back in the day ), although he had his moments, was generally in agreement.

  • magpiefifer

Well done Steve Howey – what a welcome contrast to the less intelligent mutterings from Shola!!”!
Also,I was pleased to hear Mark Warburton giving Ashley both barrels – nice to see an objective viewpoint from a neutral observer.
As for Bellamy – no words necessary for him!!

  • NUFCDan

I wonder if Howey will ever be allowed back on Sky Sports again?

    • Ron

Let’s keep our fingers crossed, and Al can do the job on the beeb.

  • gordon

Been binge watching the Man City documentary which, regardless of your feelings towards Man City, is a fascinating insight into how a club should be run and it has nothing to do with the money – it’s about the ethos of the club and the professionalism in the way it is organised from top to bottom. For example, they have a Director of Football for every continent – we have Charnley (probably on less money than their ginger kitman). Do you think they would stand for mould on the stadium toilet walls or people not getting their f*****g season tickets on time. Ashley as the ‘proud businessman’ that he is should watch this and be utterly ashamed of the shambles he presides over. It’s embarassing.

    • Ben Jones

What you’ve said has everything to do with money

      • gordon

Absolute garbage – money has nothing whatsoever to do with being organised and professional. Anyway I wasn’t talking to you, I was posting for the benefit of those who are able to make a reasoned argument, so p**s off and stop butting into things which don’t concern you. Strange how it took a comment about Citeh to flush you out of the woodwork eh?

        • Ben Jones

Jilted John had you summed right up

          • gordon

🤣🤣Exactly the same ‘joke’ Ghostrider made two weeks ago. You’re slipping you weird little freak.

          • Ben Jones

Meanwhile I’m sitting here as an individual from hebburn laughing at your paranoia . Crack on weirdo

          • gordon

Whereabouts in Hebburn? Personally, I’m from Jarra so small world. Dad used to drink in the Buffs on Station Road if you remember it.

          • Ben Jones

Station Road? Thats not where the buffs was . You thinking about the iona or the orange man’s on the corner next to dons the newsagent just up from the masonic hall at the end of hall road.

The buffs was down the Quay next to the albert

          • gordon

Fair enough – so where was it? Jarra buffs that is not Hebburn (no idea where Hebburn buffs was – I’m from Jarra so barely set foot in Hebburn – horrible little place)

          • Wezza

Haha. They always slip up. We knew all along they were the same person anyway.

          • GToon

As the person who walked away with the girl? The person who won? I think Gordon is quite an articulate bloke who presents a fair argument. Personal insults don’t really belong on here Ben.

          • Kev Newcastle England

            W anker

          • Ben Jones

            no, moron

          • Kev Newcastle England

Ok if your prefer moron thats good too

        • Monkseaton Magpies

So why were they not organised when they went into the third division.

          • gordon

Could be any number of reasons they went down – lack of a structured organisation, schitty owners, a succession of bad managers – that doesn’t mean you need money (which btw we have more than enough of) to be organised and professional. Or are you suggesting that every person and small business without pots of money is badly run and disorganised? Because that would be insulting even by your standards (your totally inappropriate and unwarranted comments about my mother notwithstanding)

          • Monkseaton Magpies

I have a son and I have a daughter they both support and love the club. They also hate the protesters. When the campaign against Padrew was on they wanted to stop going as they thought they were scum bags. Monkseaton is very proud of them both for not liking the protesters.

          • gordon

What the f**k has that got to do with anything. And notice how I don’t abuse or deride your family, no matter how misguided I think they might be. That’s because they’re not here to defend themselves ….like my dead mother……who you abused…..you f****g lowlife

          • Wezza

            He did? Report him.

          • GToon

You went last night didn’t you? So u were one of the handful of fans who didn’t sing the fcb song or chant Ashley out. Did you notice nearly everyone around you sang it? Why is that? Are we all wrong? Btw if you have insulted that blokes family then that’s nothing short of disgusting.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

The people a round me did not sing that song only a few and how is that going to help the team and no I did not insult his family. What I said was my parents brought me up to support the team through thick and thin. What I said was basically all protesters should have been brought up the same as me. It’s ok for me to get death threats and all the rest on a daily basis though.

          • gordon

It was the context of the post you were replying to which made it so offensive. I can agree you probably didn’t mean to directly insult my mother, however, in the context of what I had posted and you belittling me for hating an abusive father, it was pretty inflammatory. Anyway, you had the good grace to apolgise, which raised you a few notches in my estimation so I’m happy to let the matter drop. I think there is probably a few of us, myself included, who need to take a step back and remember what really matters in life.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Thanks will be there Saturday as normal just hope Rafa picks the best team.

          • GToon

No it isn’t at all. I think it’s sad that we have a go at each other when we all support the same team. It’s ok to support the team thru thick and thin but it’s also ok to want the best for your team too. As we get older we take more of an interest in the running of the club rather than the things the kids are interested in. I don’t think we are well run under Ashley and I wish he’d sell up and move on. I think I’m in the majority but I don’t get angry with people who have a different opinion, even that Clarko person!

          • GToon

But you have to remember that for each protestor that is their club, their dream, their love, their passion. My kids don’t like Ashley either but it’s because they have looked at facts themselves and come to that conclusion. They cheered the team on last night despite the performance but they want to experience what i did under SBR and KK. Under Ashley that will never happen unfortunately.

          • Ron

and Joe Harvey (to a point)

          • Kev Newcastle England

            Unbelievable

          • Kev Newcastle England

            Wtf

        • Wezza

Ben Jones is a troll mate just block it.

          • gordon

I’ve blocked him but for some reason unblocked him – no idea why! Seems to know Hebburn though so maybe not from Manchester. I’m so confused!

          • Ben Jones

I know jarra too, ducks park although still to this day don’t understand why it was called that, perhaps a thing of the past as I’ve never seen a duck there yet. Bringing back memories now, the dual sided co-op in the shopping centre , presto with council offices above. Gosh all seems so long ago

          • gordon

Ducks park was because the grassed area next to the swings used to be a paddling pool where you could feed the ducks. They grassed it over in the 70s when kids started getting evil. Do you remember riding the bowsers when you were a kid – how many people lost feet doing that lol. I went to Springfield, used to fight your lot from Joseph’s all the time. Seriously, though, how can you come from that and not understand the hatred for Ashley. It genuinely puzzles me!

          • Ben Jones

Lol I never rode the bowsers but I did hear a lot about people losing toes on them lol. Nah clegga me (hebburn comp) you’re talking about the Catholics at Joseph’s.

I do understand why people have hatred, personally I believe most of the reasons for the hatred are simply not true or a fair reflection of what’s happened/is happening, much of my opinions on the situation are what ghost/Monk have to say, I can’t help that as for me it’s based on reality and fact

          • gordon

Yeah it was their Catholicism that seemed to be the prime motivating factor in beating the schitt out out of them. Which is weird as I cannot recall any of us having the slightest religious inclination. Strange place Jarra/Hebburn with all that sectarian bollox going on – apparently it was a hangover from all the Irish immigration to the shipyards in the early 1900s. I still remember the Protestant Orangeman’s club on Victoria Road. As for Ashley I suppose we’ll have to agree to differ. I too have a long list of facts (located in my head!) which lead me to the opposite conclusion. Funny old world eh?

          • Ron

I’ve blocked Ben Jones – do you think he’s not a troll then? I’m now wondering if I should un block as well or would I regret it?

          • gordon

Freddy Furlongs!!!! Now THAT takes me back!

          • Kev Newcastle England

            “block it”😂

    • Monkseaton Magpies

Yes they would stand for it. Before these rich people came in they were in the third division and still had plenty of supporters. Another reason to hate Man City is they have an alliance with Sunderland.

      • gordon

Oh dear god welcome to planet f*****g Monkseaton; you’re sounding more deranged by the minute. I don’t hate Man City or any other football club (even for the mackems it’s more derision than hatred) – I hate things like pollution, poverty and kids getting killed by terrorists. Why would I hate the inhabitants of another place when 90% of them are perfectly decent people just like you and me (well me anyway having read your comments about my mother – nothing decent or well brought up about that)

      • gordon

And when I asked do you think they would stand for it I was talking about the owners (maybe you should have realised that as literally the whole post was about the owners you f*****g idiot)

      • Toon Arnie

Do you actually know ANYTHING about football ?!! Another attention seeking post – sort yourself out !

    • East Durham Mag

Liverpool have the right approach. We will never have a club plan for anything other than failure under Fattys ownership.

    • Cockneytrev

Watch the juventus documentary as well,,,
Makes our club look the shambles it is…

  • Cockneytrev

    WEll said Steve Howey,,,,👏👏👏👏
Now maybe the so called sports journalist will start doing their jobs and have a look properly into the running of NUFC by Ashley

    • Ron

Running of NUFC is a bit strong – wrecking is better don’t you think?

      • Cockneytrev

I stand corrected,,,, please accept my sincere apologies,, you are of course correct….

        • Ron

What if we say “ruining” and you just made a spelling mistake?

          • Cockneytrev

            I’ll accept that!!!

    • Dave Pattinson

      Seconded!

  • Ben Jones

Yeah watched the debate, seems like Steve slipped into that error I see people make about the championship playoff game being a 170m game believing the winners get that(and it’s better therefore to go up that way) but the 170m game is referring to the TV money for the winner not a prize for the playoff

    • GToon

Shame we won the league then and missed out on that money. Rafa could have invested it like Fulham and Huddersfield if we had.

      • Ben Jones

That money doesn’t exist it’s describing what the winner will get as a result of promotion, the same money 1st and 2nd will get, it’s tv money

      • Danimal

Wasting your time, the Ashley cult are an irony free zone.

        • GToon

Yes, I’m almost amazed he didn’t understand that’s what I meant.

    • Danimal

Yeah, our club doesn’t get to see the money either way. How do you explain that, you massive and embarrassing brown-noser?

      • Ben Jones

Ok you massive pr1ck . There’s a prize pot of 170m set aside just for the winner of the playoffs ok simpleton

        • Danimal

There isn’t, he’s wrong on that of course. It is projected future tv money plus two years of parachute payments if they come straight down. Obviously it’s a hell of a lot more if they stay up, something our owner seems unable to grasp. As we’ve seen, all the other clubs recently promoted by playoffs or automatically (perhaps with the exception of Cardiff) have been sensible enough to invest significantly in their squads. For us, the additional revenue might as well not exist as it never turns up on the pitch. Where it goes is a mystery. It’s not all that massive by the way.
