Sky Sports Predictor gives up interesting final Premier League position for Newcastle United

The Sky Sports Predictor has given us a final Premier League table for the 2018/19 season.

Their predictions are based on stats and no surprise to see Manchester City at the top of their predicted table.

With then the usual suspects making up the rest of their top six.

They have Leicester to be best of the rest in seventh, with Burnley building on last season’s relative success in eighth, then a bit of a surprise to see Crystal Palace in ninth place in these predictions.

The Sky Sports Predictor an algorithm to forecast all results and give us this final 2018/19 table and it is based on a system called ELO, originally set up to rate chess players.

For Sky Sports and the Premier League – it takes into account form, who your team still has left to play, and how well a team has done in previous seasons.

For Newcastle United fans, they will be pleasantly surprised to see a predicted finish of 11th.

However, like all wholly stats based systems, it does have certain flaws…

When making these Premier League table predictions, this summer’s transfers are not taken into account.

So for example, Wolves and Fulham spending around £70m so far is not taken into account, nor is Newcastle United currently sitting on a summer transfer profit of around £30m.

As you can see, another stand out is West Ham forecasted to be 17th, this despite the Hammers having a net spend of more than £100m higher than Newcastle United (West Ham plus £75m and Newcastle minus £30m).

Needless to say, I think every Newcastle United fan would take this table above now, if offered as a guaranteed final outcome this coming season.

Also, still 30 hours to go in the transfer market!
