Shola Ameobi was released by Notts County at the end of last season.

The former Newcastle striker having helped one-time NUFC teammate Kevin Nolan in transforming the club’s fortunes, just missing out on promotion last season.

Shola Ameobi turns 37 in October and he talked about his future last month.

The Mackem Slayer saying that he had decided to enjoy the World Cup and then think about his future (read below).

No sign of another club just yet but Shola is back in the game, in a manner of speaking.

Sky Sports ave confirmed that they taken the former Newcastle striker on, with Shola Ameobi covering this Saturday’s game at St James Park.

The coverage starts at 11.30pm on Sky Sports, with Shola joining Kelly Cates and Jamie Redknapp, as Newcastle take on Tottenham.

Good to have somebody in our corner as so often when matches are shown live on Sky or BT Sport, especially against top six clubs, invariably you will always have an ex-player from the opposition (such as one-time Spurs player Redknapp) and often a ‘neutral’ guest alongside them.

Shola Ameobi speaking in early July 2018:

“I think for me this summer, I made a decision to have an extended time just to be with family and the kids, not rush into a decision.

“I’m getting to that age where I have to start thinking about everything now, not just myself, I’ve got family and the kids to think about.

“I made a decision not to make a decision right away and just enjoy the World Cup.

“We had a great season (at Notts County) and I had a great time down there – but the icing on the cake would have been promotion.

“I feel like we had the team to do that, and we just fell a little bit short, it is a superb club.

“I was treated so well by the fans, staff, everyone there.”

Hopefully he’s a better pundit than he was a finisher. In all seriousness though good luck to him, he’s always seemed like a nice guy.

  • Wor Lass

Good luck to Shola. He was a decent player back in the day and it`s always good to see local lads make it. For some reason, he became a target for cerain muppets on here and the Comical which I find disgraceful.

  • Leicester Mag

Darn sight better player than Hos. Undoubtedly played when injured (hip) and this impacted later. Now Penfold hears he’s at the match he’ll be our next signing!

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Always gave his best and did untold work for The Newcastle United Foundation something your local M.P. knows nothing about so vote her out.

    • SuperDesHamilton

Slept with his best mates wife when they were on holiday as well…

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Did not know that he is a born again Christian who plays the drums surely he would not stoop as low as Shay Given.

          Fenhams John Terry

Monk I am afraid I won’t be able to meet you this Sat morning, I only have less than an hour spare as it is and I have decided to join the protests against Ashley on Saturday, his barefaced lies in his letter are a disgrace, I know you will disagree so we will have to postpone our meeting until another game, but I will look forward to it none the less.

          • Wezza

He is relieved he doesn’t have to travel from Manchester!

  • Ben Jones

Poor Shola, his life now a walking tightrope of saying the ‘right’ things and avoiding upsetting the militants, who’ll no doubt gatecrash his father’s church if he says anything wrong.

    good luck Shola!

At last we may now get a pundit on sky other than Taylor who isn’t just there to slag us off

  • Mrkgw

Good luck Shola. You will make a better and more balanced pundit than Carragher given his antics during hocklegate.

    • SuperDesHamilton

Shola slept with his best mates missus while they were all on a family holiday in Spain, so he isn’t exactly a saint either
