Shola Ameobi was released by Notts County at the end of last season.

The former Newcastle striker having helped one-time NUFC teammate Kevin Nolan in transforming the club’s fortunes, just missing out on promotion last season.

Shola Ameobi turns 37 in October and he talked about his future last month.

The Mackem Slayer saying that he had decided to enjoy the World Cup and then think about his future (read below).

No sign of another club just yet but Shola is back in the game, in a manner of speaking.

Sky Sports ave confirmed that they taken the former Newcastle striker on, with Shola Ameobi covering this Saturday’s game at St James Park.

The coverage starts at 11.30pm on Sky Sports, with Shola joining Kelly Cates and Jamie Redknapp, as Newcastle take on Tottenham.

Good to have somebody in our corner as so often when matches are shown live on Sky or BT Sport, especially against top six clubs, invariably you will always have an ex-player from the opposition (such as one-time Spurs player Redknapp) and often a ‘neutral’ guest alongside them.

Shola Ameobi speaking in early July 2018:

“I think for me this summer, I made a decision to have an extended time just to be with family and the kids, not rush into a decision.

“I’m getting to that age where I have to start thinking about everything now, not just myself, I’ve got family and the kids to think about.

“I made a decision not to make a decision right away and just enjoy the World Cup.

“We had a great season (at Notts County) and I had a great time down there – but the icing on the cake would have been promotion.

“I feel like we had the team to do that, and we just fell a little bit short, it is a superb club.

“I was treated so well by the fans, staff, everyone there.”
