On Friday at his pre-Chelsea press conference, Rafa Benitez explained the hold up on the Henri Saivet move to Turkey.

The manager saying that despite the medical having taken place 10 days ago and the midfielder having been in Turkey since then, they were still waiting for a ‘resolution’ on the deal with Bursaspor.

However, agreement has now been reached, Saturday morning seeing an official statement released by Newcastle United (see below), confirming that a year long loan deal has been agreed.

No mention of any buying option/clause as part of the loan arrangement.

Earlier, Turkish media reported that Newcastle would be paid £800,000 by Bursaspor to loan Henri Saivet for the season.

Rafa Benitez – 24 August 2018:

“Achraf Lazaar is still around because we did not have time to do it (the loan deal) with Genoa.

“As for Henri Saivet, he is getting closer but we are still waiting for a resolution (to the transfer deal) in Turkey (to Bursaspor).”

Newcastle United official statement – 25 August 2018:

Henri Saivet has joined Turkish Süper Lig side Buraspor on a season-long loan.

The Senegal international midfielder will stay with Yeşil Timsahlar (Green Crocodiles) for the duration of the 2018/19 campaign.

He spent the second half of last term with their Süper Lig rivals Sivasspor, having been loaned out to French side St. Etienne the season before that.

Saivet, 27, joined Newcastle from Bordeaux in January 2016 but has made just eight appearances for the Magpies, scoring once in last season’s win at West Ham.

The Mag – 16 August 2018:

Henri Saivet has passed his medical with Bursaspor, according to Turkish media on Monday morning.

Olay report that the Newcastle midfielder is expected to train with his new teammates tonight, once everything is officially signed off.

No indication as to whether the year long loan deal includes any buyout clause for a player Newcastle paid £5m for back in January 2016.

However, Olay report that for the initial year’s loan, Bursaspor are paying NUFC 900,000 euros, which is approximately £800,000.

Henri Saivet speaking on Wednesday to beIN Sport:

“I am very happy that I came to Bursaspor, and it was very important for me to be transferred here for my career.

“I will be training with the team after the health check tomorrow.

“Hopefully everything will be fine.”

The Mag – 15 August 2018:

Henri Saivet has now at last arrived in Turkey.

Premature reports in the Turkish media on Monday had claimed he was already there and due to take a medical ahead of a move to Bursaspor.

However, Wednesday afternoon has seen confirmation that the Newcastle midfielder has arrived, pictured arriving at the airport (see below).

Turkish Football report that a medical is set to take place and with a deal in principle claimed  to be already agreed between club and player, the move should be announced in the next 24 hours.

As to whether it is a straight buy, or loan to buy, remains to be seen.

  • Toontaff

We’ll likely end up having to loan Wor Henri every year until his contract runs out! They may recoup his transfer fee in loan fees!

    • Leazes.

Yes that’s why scouting and information gathering is much better than reliance on a Youtube snapshot of your fifth choice player…..

….even with transfermarkt at the disposal of our club they still seem to want to fill thee gaps with crocks who are languishing in a purgatory between the bench and the physio table….

….you would almost think it was like the false economy of buying goods in S**** D**** and expecting them not to go out of shape after a lukewarm wash.

  • Wor Lass

Is that an old photo? He looks like he might have spent the close season in Greggs!

  • Mrkgw

One of few ‘Rafa”d’ and he needed to move unfortunately in order to save his career. Never really got an opportunity to shine. Good luck to him.

Because he’s rubbish and never showed any promise since he was about 20 year old. Even mclaren had enough of him after one game
