Newcastle United have started talks to buy Myziane Maolida according to reports from France on Thursday lunchtime.
Only a week until transfer deadline and with Rafa Benitez saying that he still needs ‘four or five’ signings, the talented young French striker would be an interesting one if Newcastle are genuinely interested and able to land him.
L’Equipe say that both Sevilla and Real Betis have registered their interest in the 19 year old, each of them willing to pay around £7m.
The French newspaper report that Myziane Maolida is desperate for more first team football, so Newcastle would need to be guaranteeing him a place in the first team squad, with decent chance of playing decent minutes for the first team.
Last season the forward appeared in 22 matches for Lyon, in all competitions, but only five of those were in the starting eleven.
Altogether he scored three goals but with only 658 minutes of first team football, it wasn’t a poor return.
With Lyon finishing third last season in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League this coming season, playing time is likely to be even more difficult to come by for Myziane Maolida.
He has been a regular all the way through the French national set-up, appearing for the Under 16s, 17s, 18s and 19s, part of the squad that recently were semi-finalists in the Under 19s European Championships.
The striker having scored nine times in 19 games for the France Under 19s.
The excellent Get French Football News site, describes the striker as a ‘very exciting signing’ if Newcastle complete the deal.
Maybe a transfer story with a little bit more going for it than most.
