Newcastle United have started talks to buy Myziane Maolida according to reports from France on Thursday lunchtime.

Only a week until transfer deadline and with Rafa Benitez saying that he still needs ‘four or five’ signings, the talented young French striker would be an interesting one if Newcastle are genuinely interested and able to land him.

L’Equipe say that both Sevilla and Real Betis have registered their interest in the 19 year old, each of them willing to pay around £7m.

The French newspaper report that Myziane Maolida is desperate for more first team football, so Newcastle would need to be guaranteeing him a place in the first team squad, with decent chance of playing decent minutes for the first team.

Last season the forward appeared in 22 matches for Lyon, in all competitions, but only five of those were in the starting eleven.

Altogether he scored three goals but with only 658 minutes of first team football, it wasn’t a poor return.

With Lyon finishing third last season in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League this coming season, playing time is likely to be even more difficult to come by for Myziane Maolida.

He has been a regular all the way through the French national set-up, appearing for the Under 16s, 17s, 18s and 19s, part of the squad that recently were semi-finalists in the Under 19s European Championships.

The striker having scored nine times in 19 games for the France Under 19s.

The excellent Get French Football News site, describes the striker as a ‘very exciting signing’ if Newcastle complete the deal.

Maybe a transfer story with a little bit more going for it than most.

  • Paul Patterson

    We’ll bid £2m and £5k a week

  • TheFatController

    In talks ?

    ‘Penfold here, how much?’
‘Two clubs have offered £7m, but we want £9m + extras’
‘£3m is my last offer. Take it or leave it?’
    Click.

    • Paul Patterson

At this moment in time, I’d be surprised if the telephone in Charnley’s office actually dials out. Incoming calls only . .

      • drc74

its one of them fisher price phones with the red handset.. . shhhdont tell lee, but its not really a hotline to the tub of lard

    • Peaky

Tbh FC the conversation probably ends mid sentence after “Penfold here”….

  • Wor Lass

Don`t know him but it isn`t what Rafa said he was looking for – Premier League experience first and foremost. He could be a good young talent but we need people ready to hit the ground running.

  • Clarko

He looks better than Rondón, Muto, Pléa and Jørgensen…

    • Wor Lass

Why does he look better than Rondon, say? Rondon has plenty of PL experience and that`s what we need, I would say.

      • Clarko

Premier League experience does not equal ability.

        • Wor Lass

Conversely, potential ability doesn`t equal PL success/usefulness. When you make value judgements, you need to qualify what you`re saying. “X would be better than Y because ….”. You know, stuff like that. I thought you would have kown.

          • Clarko

Where did I anything about his ‘potential’ or whether he will or won’t be a ‘success’. You’re putting words in my mouth, I never said anything of the sort, you’re a liar.

          • TheNutJob

Sacre bleu Clarko, that`s no way to address your betters

        • Ram Kishore

How do u know be has the ability more than Rondon or Plea?

          • Clarko

I didn’t say he has more ‘ability than Rondon or Plea’.

          • TheNutJob

            you implied it though

          • Clarko

            No I didn’t.

          • Westdentoon

            You did

          • Clarko

            Quote it.

          • ClarkoIsADummy

“He looks better than Rondón, Muto, Pléa and Jørgensen”

You either fancy him or you implied it.

Counting down the days until Disqus hit you with the banhammer.

          • Clarko

I didn’t say I fancied him, nor did I imply it. I stated that ‘he looks better than Rondón, Muto, Pléa and Jørgensen’.

            Learn to read.

          • gordon

Here we go again – say something or directly imply it then deny saying it when challenged unless the challenger uses the PRECISE wording you used – it’s the debating technique of a five-year old and, oh look, it’s the same technique used by ghostrider, benjones etc etc – pitiful

          • Clarko

No, people or putting words in mouth. I didn’t state that I ‘fancied’ him as a player and nowhere did I imply it. I said ‘he looks better’ than the other options.

Learn to read you f*****g idiot.

          • gordon

ooh temper temper big boy and nobody put words in your mouth as that is actually physically impossible (just obeying your rules and being literal there) – mentalist

          • Clarko

And there we go, nothing to say because you’re wrong.

          • gordon

Priceless – you really don’t see the irony in that statement – truly feckin deluded

          • Clarko

            You’re wrong, get over it.

          • gordon

Outstanding – you’re so feckin stupid you can’t even tell when someone is trolling you – you really are the gift that keeps on giving. Weirdo(s)

          • gordon

I never said I was right – learn to feckin read clever lad

          • Clarko

‘say something or directly imply it then deny saying it’

            You were wrong. Dummy.

          • gordon

So where did I say, or even imply, that I was right about that. Mummy the bad man is ‘putting words in my mouth’ – tool

          • Clarko

Where did I say that you said you were right? I didn’t, I said you were wrong, you were. Dummy.

          • gordon

See below – I’m off to continue having a life elsewhere ….. you should try it as I really don’t think you’re in a good place mentally (and for once, I’m actually being serious) – toodle-oo fruit loop

          • Clarko

And for the second time, nothing to say, because you’re wrong.

            2-0

          • gordon

And that just confirms that my work is done here! Seriously, go for a walk or get a hobby or a girlfriend – something, anything other than doing this all day, every day – it’s not healthy man. Cheerio.

          • Clarko

            Says the person that’s replying…

          • Westdentoon

            Class 😂

          • Ram Kishore

Then what does the words ‘better than’ mean?
It must obviously mean something which I can understand.

          • Clarko

            ‘looks better than’

          • Ram Kishore

U mean by quality wise or ability wise?
            Can u rephrase it?
We can sign him and if he hits the ground running soon, its well and good.

          • Clarko

It was just a general statement, ‘he looks better’, go and check out the highlights of each player on YouTube. I have no idea how good, ability wise, any of the players are.

          • Ram Kishore

            Ok

          • Ram Kishore

He does looks good i just checked his youtube videos .. obviously can do well as a striker or second striker and make Perez fight for his place..
Seems like a he will be a challenge and good addition
Convincing him and selling the club to him must be a challenge..
But he must be a person with right attitude and should not be like those players who demand everything before proving themselves on the pitch..
I hope he doesn’t be the one of those players who demand perks first before proving

          • gordon

So you think he ‘looks better than’ them based on the fact you think he is worse than them?

          • Clarko

            I can’t have a conversation with someone who can’t read. It’s impossible.

          • gordon

And the classic taking your ball home statement – so sad

          • Squintytoonarmy

Do you mean better looking as in will pull more lasses in the Bigg Market?

    • panther

      so do I

  • NUFCDan

Muto is our big headline signing. We won’t be signing anyone else permanently now. All we can expect now is a few deadline day loans bids.

    • Paul Patterson

And beware the sting in the tail next Thursday . .

      • mentalman

Its a PR goldmine buying a player who can’t actually sign because he can’t get a work permit, it’ll be interesting to see if they appeal against it if he doesn’t get one

        • gordon

They’ll probably appeal if he DOES get one!

      • Peaky

Yup…..either of the scouse teams will be ordering extra L…A…..S…..C……etc for their shirts now…..

    • Wor Lass

His work permit application is a jar of worms. Japan are out of the top 50 FIFA ranking so a case has to be made, as I understand it, based on criteria (which i got too fed up to read through) related to his value/the transfer fee.

      • Desree

Thats why they went after him. We couldn’t get it over the line and now the window is shut. Oh dear.

3 positives about this transfer window article next.

        • mentalman

It depends when the transfer paperwork is submitted, but its a good excuse for not signing a player.

I’m surprised the club haven’t already thought about this and put in loads of high bids for players who they couldn’t get a work permit for

      • Peaky

Totally agree with one of your earlier posts…..what’s going on with Kenedy ???? Surely he needed a full pre season as he only lasted 60-70 mins per game last season before he ran out of steam.

      • mentalman

a quick look at requirements for a japanese footballer to get a UK work permit and he doesn’t have enough appearances to qualify that way.

He therefore needs enough “points” to qualify, in this case its 70 immigration points, he will get 50 with an endorsement from the FA, 10 if he can prove he’s got sufficient funding to stay in the UK and 10 if he meets the required level of speaking english.

it looks like he would easily get the 70 points as if he can’t speak english they can get around this by putting him on an english language course

        • TheNutJob

Didn`t Rafa bin Mbemba for that

          • mentalman

            Perhaps Muto already speaks English

          • TheNutJob

            he`s speaks German ok

          • mentalman

think spanish and english are the options

    • Jezza

Spot on. Muto is our last signing of the summer. All that’s left now is for Lascelles to be sold on deadline day.

  • Toonfen

Its like going to the cinema every week to see the same film over and over again its never any good but just maybe it might be better the second or third time round but it never is! ASHLEY OUT OUT OUT!!! PS Groundhog Day!!!

  • Toonfen

FFS ASHLEY JUST GO GO GO!

  • Jimblag23

I thought we’d had a bid accepted for some Swedish guy? 🤦🏻‍♂️
    It’s all rubbish.
Rafa will be gone by Monday at this rate.

  • Ron

    I’m not holding my breath.

  • mentalman

another name plucked out of nowhere

  • Desree

Did rafa want Muto? Or will it all fall over because a work permit is not granted. Orchestrated to further decrease spending?

Anyway, great to seewe are after a French striker who can score 3 goals per season.

Buy a centre half and put them up top and they will scoremore than our current crop.

    • Peaky

Bet Rafa thought he was getting Mata from the red mancs….

  • Leazes.

I keep saying check the records, but nobody bothers….. C’est la vie.

Its nonsense and you’ll see why….. I’m saying nowt.

    • TheNutJob

    • mentalman

we are 9th favourite to go down, today anyway

      • Peaky

        11/2 joint seventh….that’s tumbled 2 places in 1 minute.

        • mentalman

we’ll be favourites by tea time

        • Kneebotherm8

Down down deeper and down……..that’s where we’re headed…..

    Next!

  • robbersdog

I’m sure he’s a great prospect, but he’s just a kid. We need an experienced, top level goal-scorer, but none of you need me to tell you that.

    • Angelswithdirtyfaces

Guendouzi at the Gooners is 19 and Michael Owen had the Golden Boot when he was 19/20. Okay the odds are that he needs time to mature, but maybe, just maybe, he’d score 10+ goals and be a genuine prodigy

  • Lostprofit DBC

    Adam Armstrong mark 2?

  • Follow Maolida

It’s alright lads, you can stop worrying now – this guys will sort it all out.

A young Lyon player (yes, Lyon!) leaving because they will get more game time at Newcastle United!

How things have changed, my friends. I ask you.

  • Martin

I don’t think he need worry about not getting much time here.

  • Mxpx

If we were a proper club we’d buy him and leave him on loan at lyon
