Thursday morning sees reports that Newcastle United have had a bid accepted for Isaac Kiese Thelin.

The 26 year old Swedish international was part of their squad in Russia, appearing in four of their five games as a substitute, only the England game did he not feature.

The striker is with Anderlecht at the minute but HLN report that they have made clear they want to sell him and have offered him to clubs.

There has been interest and the Belgian newspaper say that both Newcastle United and Lokomotiv Moscow have had bids accepted of around 6m euros (approx £5.3m), indicating that it is now up to the player to now choose which club.

The striker arrived at Anderlecht on loan from Bordeaux in January 2017 but after scoring only once in 16 league appearances (only two of them as a starter), HLN describes Anderlecht fans being ‘horrified’ when the club then paid £1.5m to make the deal permanent last summer.

Loaned out last season to another Belgian club, Waasland-Beveren, Isaac Kiese Thelin scored 19 goals in 33 league games

Thelin wasn’t involved when Anderlecht kicked off their league season last Saturday with a 4-1 win at Kortrijk, although he was given extended leave due to World Cup participation, not playing at all in pre-season.

HLN report that with a deal being imminent, Isaac Kiese Thelin was missing from Anderlecht’s training ground on Wednesday.

Rafa Benitez said he was desperate still for four or five signings after the 4-0 hammering last night at Braga, whether this Anderlecht striker could be one of them is in doubt.

The price tag would fit in with Mike Ashley’s thinking but difficult to see a striker with his profile making an instant impact in the Premier League. Last season was the first time the 26 year old had scored more than five goals in a league season.

As it happens, HLN claim it is Lokomotiv Moscow who are believed to be favourites, as they can offer Champions League football after winning the Russian league last season.

Honestly, is this all The Mag wants to report on?
The club is in chaos. The manager looks set to go. We’re looking like relegation fodder, again! There’s been loads of coverage elsewhere about the Magpie Group, but they won’t publish any article here.
Meanwhile, trolls are wrecking the site for fans, causing mayhem with the comments’ section, clearly using multiple IDs and just intent on pathetic, childish argument. Not really argument, just contradicting whatever someone says, behaving like spotty, teenagers like Kevin and Perry!
Not taking what some long term posters say about them, I tried to debate with a couple of these trolls and eventually they ended up contradicting themselves and arguing with themselves!
The only good thing is you can actually block them on here, unlike most NUFC forums, but they just come back with new names.

    • Toontaff

Meanwhile, apparently, we’re after a downgrade on The Hoss, but worse, he’s even a downgrade on Riviere? Never mind, eh, as long as you get your clicks, even if it’s mainly from trolls.

    • Leazes.

The issues don’t seem to effect Simon Van Der Velde’s thinking at all but there is a clue in one of his profiles, that of ‘Graham Porter’ which says…. he hates the endless off field politics.

…. so like Ryder and Douglas and the rest of the ‘local’ media, he ignores the issues and looks for positives where none exist. There isn’t an upside to 11 years of Ashley and his minions.

    • Ben Jones

You’re lying, where’s the contradiction thread? On what article?

  • Mrkgw

Who? Never heard of the player so have no idea whether any good. I see from reports this morning thst Rafa is now at breaking point – Keegan was right about this regime.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Wonder if Rafa knows

  • GlasgowMag

FFS you couldn’t make this up!!! Anybody want a game for the toon price range 5-6mil don’t worry if you can’t score goals this is irrelevant any takers answers on a postcard c/o SD Shirebrook!!

      He’s 6 million, not 5!

      • Toontaff

Transfer fees have gone up, he’s not half the player Riviere was.

        • Leazes.

Market Value is £2.7m. but he does score goals…. in the Belgian league.

          • Paul Patterson

We might as well have gone and bid for Peter Crouch..

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            Read it

    ‘Dear Mr. Ashley,
You hold the hopes, expectations and fate of all Newcastle United fans in your hands. It has been over ten years of broken promises, lies and deceit. Two relegations, the embarrassment of Joe Kinnear and everything before, after and in between. Surely now – enough is enough?
Over the last six months a number of meetings and discussions have taken place between many Newcastle fan groups and organisations. We now all come together under one banner, The Magpie Group, and we are united in our common desire for Newcastle United to be a club to be proud of at the heart of our local community.
In May 2015 you said “from this day forward we will be making our own luck.” These empty words have not been backed up with actions and relegation, once again, soon followed. It is clear now that it is in the best interests of both you and the future of Newcastle United that the club is sold.
We cannot speculate on the terms of takeover talks but we know from credible sources that talks have taken place and bids have been made. We cannot comment on the factors which must be taken into account in order to value the club but a number of things are now clear.
The new TV deal has been agreed and Newcastle United is in need of a major rebuilding project, from urgently required investment in the first team playing squad, to the need for significant investment to bring the club’s training facilities and academy up to an acceptable standard following over ten years of neglect on your watch.
If one word could sum up Newcastle United it is potential. A potential you have no interest in. We now have a world class manager in Rafa Benitez who has united the fans for the first time in a long time, but this alone is not enough to counteract chronic neglect and under-investment under your ownership.
We need an owner that is prepared to back Rafa Benitez, not only by investing properly in the playing squad but by backing him to deliver the widespread change needed throughout the club from training ground to academy.
An owner who is not prepared to just release a manager invested in the club, city and community, when the opportunity arises.
If you cannot attract a buyer that meets your valuation then you must understand that this is because of the significant amount of investment now required to restore our football club to what it should be.
We have seen the reaction to the IfRafaGoesWeGo movement and this has acted as a catalyst to bring the wider fan base together. We are all united in that we will do anything we can, both as groups and together as a fan base, to drive through a change in ownership.
Over to you, Mike. You have already admitted you are not the man to take the club forward. It is time to sell up and go.
You are only one man. We are a city. We are United.
    The Magpie Group’

    • Paul Patterson

He ain’t listening or he doesn’t care

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

      • Toontaff

I hope he’s been daft enough to finally get all the fans together in wanting him out and to actually do more about it!

    • Toon

Open letters are a total embarrassment, Mike Ashley probably laughs at this rubbish.

  • Paul Patterson

Rondons £16m release clause has timed out, so we won’t be getting him . .

    • Jezza

I could have told you that three months ago. The club were never serious about signing him.

  • TheFatController

It’s around this time of the morning that i like to read a troll saying it’s time Rafa was less stubborn, the workers at SD were less greedy, the players required £30k a year not a week, and us fans stopped gangng up on them on here…

As I haven’t seen any of this yet, would one of them oblige me…?

    • GlasgowMag

Ghostly boys out early try him😱😱😱

    • Peaky

Monk seems to have disappeared or is it Ben Jones at the minute.

    • Ron

It’s time Rafa was less stubborn, the workers a SD should be less greedy, the player requires £30K a year not a week, stop ganging up on them. Pleased to oblige.

Now who the hell is Thelin? Frank Pingle mark two?

  • Lewis

Bloody hell, might as well get Michael Bridges back at this rate.

    • Desree

      He lives in Australia

  • HarryHype59

It is totally pointless spending £5m on a striker in the modern premier league era. Rafa may as well give Longstaffe and Armstrong a run rather than waste resources on another shirt filler.

    • Mxpx

I agree what would Armstrong cost if we sold him … I’d guess about 5m

  • mookie

Even as a fan of Newcastle United I have to laugh. It’s that Dennis Wise moment all over again: with the Rondon deal going south Ashley’s minions have come up with a stinker of a plan B. Just like Xisco was for Keegan. #HWTL

  • MadMag83

We have a great recent track record of signings from the Belgian league. Sels, Mitrovic, Mbemba, they’ve all flourished…..

    • Kneebotherm8

      Good point…….

    • HarryHype59

Agreed, may as well get them from the SPL.

  • mactoon

Mark Douglas on twitter 1 hour ago:

Checked this out now. Been told this morning NO truth in this.
    #nufc looking elsewhere.

    • MadMag83

Ashley has decided the bargain bin is too expensive so he’s instructed his lap dog Charnley to check the rubbish bins instead.

Apparently there’s a ginger lad at Forest he quite likes the look of.

      • Mxpx

His mate Joe kinnear is recommending Shane ferguson still too!

  • East Durham Mag

Tursday? Laughing at the quality of journalism here or rather the lack of it.
