‘Newcastle United have bid accepted for Isaac Kiese Thelin’ – HLN

Thursday morning sees reports that Newcastle United have had a bid accepted for Isaac Kiese Thelin.

The 26 year old Swedish international was part of their squad in Russia, appearing in four of their five games as a substitute, only the England game did he not feature.

The striker is with Anderlecht at the minute but HLN report that they have made clear they want to sell him and have offered him to clubs.

There has been interest and the Belgian newspaper say that both Newcastle United and Lokomotiv Moscow have had bids accepted of around 6m euros (approx £5.3m), indicating that it is now up to the player to now choose which club.

The striker arrived at Anderlecht on loan from Bordeaux in January 2017 but after scoring only once in 16 league appearances (only two of them as a starter), HLN describes Anderlecht fans being ‘horrified’ when the club then paid £1.5m to make the deal permanent last summer.

Loaned out last season to another Belgian club, Waasland-Beveren, Isaac Kiese Thelin scored 19 goals in 33 league games

Thelin wasn’t involved when Anderlecht kicked off their league season last Saturday with a 4-1 win at Kortrijk, although he was given extended leave due to World Cup participation, not playing at all in pre-season.

HLN report that with a deal being imminent, Isaac Kiese Thelin was missing from Anderlecht’s training ground on Wednesday.

Rafa Benitez said he was desperate still for four or five signings after the 4-0 hammering last night at Braga, whether this Anderlecht striker could be one of them is in doubt.

The price tag would fit in with Mike Ashley’s thinking but difficult to see a striker with his profile making an instant impact in the Premier League. Last season was the first time the 26 year old had scored more than five goals in a league season.

As it happens, HLN claim it is Lokomotiv Moscow who are believed to be favourites, as they can offer Champions League football after winning the Russian league last season.
