Florian Lejeune has gone under the knife.

Newcastle United releasing an official statement on Wednesday afternoon that surgery had taken place.

They confirm that it was to repair a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament, after picking up the injury in training.

The club aren’t putting a timescale on the defender’s recovery but estimates in the media have suggested that it will be at least into 2019 by the time he returns, with also the chance he could miss the entire season.

Rafa Benitez says he spoke to Florian Lejeune both before and after surgery and the Frenchman is in good spirits.

Get well soon!

  • Ron

    Good luck in your recovery

  • Milburn_Taylor

good player & a big loss hope he recovers soon, chronicle reporting that Palace and West ham have pulled out of a deal for Ings & that leaves the way clear for Newcastle at £20m, nearly choked when i read it

    • Danny

no wonder, who pays that amount for a player with his injury record …

      • Milburn_Taylor

        madness

    • Peter C

There is more chance of finding Shergar, than Liverpool selling Ings for 20 million.

But if anyone did forkout that much, they would need professional help, of the psychiatric variety.

      • porciestreet

        Trading on his past name……CROCKED….!

    • andrew baron

20 million pennies maybe, but pounds….. NEVER!

      • Jezza

Ashley won’t even sanction dipping into the profits to bring in Ings on loan.

        • Kenny

whatever arrives before the window closes will be cheap or free

    • panther

    Best regards….All ex-pat Mags…

  • Tweed Mag

Hope he makes it back before the season is over.

  • Kenny

Good defender, can carry the ball forward & passes well, Newcastle will miss him
hope he`s not out for a full season.

    • Monkseaton Magpies

Yes our best footballing defender but without Lacelles we seem to go to pieces. Offer still open to any one on here if they have been to more games than me will gladly buy them a pint. Just show loyalty points for away games I have well over five hundred and can prove it.

  • TheFatController

If you had to name one player who could really make an impact this season compared to last when he was injured twice…he must be so frustrated. Let’s hope the operation goes well and gives him an early as possible return date.

    • Kenny

      good pairing Lacelles & Lejuene

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Lejuene can play the ball out of the defence football style and is a great player. Lacelles however is a big miss when absent as a natural leader and we went to pieces without him. See you in the Three Bulls on Saturday will be down stairs nine till ten then at the bar upstairs after ten. The other guy I was meeting pulled out last night but hope to see you there. Think Brian very anti Ashley blike turning up too. Alan the manager will be upstairs knows me well.
I will have a pint of Stella in my hand label badge and baseball cap.

        • SuperDesHamilton

Monkseaton you’ve scared them all off

        • Squintytoonarmy

I don’t agree with most of what you post but clear to me you not one of these Manchester lads / they wouldn’t know Monty in Berwick/Spain etc. Hope someone turns up to verify you cheers

          • Geordiegiants

He’s a pisstaker man, regardless of who he is!

  • Wor Lass

Bon courage, Florian – remets-toi vite!
