The results of the Newcastle v Tottenham player ratings by fans.

Always interesting to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

A real split in terms of how various players did against Tottenham.

Easily the two best performers according to these fan ratings were the men on the wings.

Matt Ritchie (7.5) tireless as always and putting in that stunning cross that Joselu couldn’t fail to score from.

Close behind was Kenedy (7.2), he was easily the biggest threat to Spurs and if he hadn’t froze on his big chance with just the keeper to beat, would almost certainly have been Newcastle’s man of the match.

A clear third was Martin Dubravka (6.6), left exposed by his defenders on both goals but did well overall and made a stunning save from Sissoko, though his distribution was a bit ropey for once.

After that, we are really getting to below average performances, Jamaal Lascelles (6.2) next best, but the defence not showing its usual discipline under the captain.

Jonjo Shelvey (6.1) had his moments but gave the ball away far too often, whilst Joselu (6.0) put his goal away and put Kenedy in for his big opportunity, but the Spaniard’s all round play offered Newcastle very little.

Dummett and Clark both scored 5.8, doing the basics but not really up the level needed, whilst Diame was even worse than Shelvey for giving the ball away.

The two clear weakest performers in the fans’ eyes were Perez (4.9) and Yedlin (4.7).

The right-back gave it his all as usual but was caught out of position often and failed to challenge when Alli headed the winner, as for Perez he was totally anonymous and offered zero threat to the Spurs defence.

On a brighter note, subs Rondon and Muto both scored 5.8 and whilst nothing startling, suggested that they will offer a lot more up front that the options Rafa had last season. As for Christian Atsu (3.3), his contribution for the final 23 minutes was feeble at best.

If we are looking  at comparisons to the start of last season, a positive maybe that four of the five top performers on Saturday have been added since then.

  • Leazes.

Last season we set off with the 15th most valuable squad and a bus.

This season we are valued by transfermarkt at….. yes you guessed right…15th

This is where the owner has positioned us!

Never mind you can always big up the squad like the chronicle and run with a headline….’Newcastle have ‘threats all over the pitch’ and will show they’re a ‘great team’, believes Dele Ali’…..

….they take platitudes quite literally at Thomson House when it suits their agenda!

    • Ashley-out

i gave up with the chronicle long ago.

  • Ashley-out

Perez & Diame are back were they were at the beginning of last season,
both will be under pressure from Muto & Ki

    • Billmag

The aforementioned two are the whipping boys on here it’s the first game of the season for goodness sake.

      • Ashley-out

one has been here 4 years the other 3, they put in a 6 month spell last season & that`s it, if you think that`s good enough that`s up to you

        • Billmag

The same two you are on about probably saved us from relegation last season, think you are being harsh after one game but hey if you think they are Shyte that’s up to you.

    • Wor Lass

I thought the little we saw of Muto was very promising. Diame was a lot better in the second half and Preez, although he didn`t have a very good game, wasn`t far off bagging a couple of goals. I remember Ki being on loan at Sunlun and he looked really good.

      • Ashley-out

i`ve seen Ki a few times and he`s not a bad player

  • Gusto

The ‘totally anonymous / zero threat’ Perez almost scored but for a great close range save by Lloris. Sure he wasn’t at his best, but he always gets low ratings on here by reputation.

    • ScreamStevie

Just like Kenedy always gets the benefit of the doubt. On Saturday he fluffed a great chance and nearly gifted Spurs a goal. Hardly mentioned. If that had been Perez he would have been flayed alive on these boards…

    • glassjawsh-got-banned

The problem with Perez is he is either an 8 or a 4. Either he is on of the best players on the pitch or you forget he is even there for most of the match. There is no such thing as a steady performance from him and it is infuriating.

  • Billmag

Dub’s indecision was there for all to see yes he made a couple of good saves but overall his performance wasn’t up to his normal standards, Perez as normal on these boards gets pelters and yet Kennedy gets a far greater mark if Perez had missed that chance or had he nearly gifted Spurs a goal he would have been crucified on here.

    • Damon Horner

I had the same thought about the missed chance, only with Joselu not Perez. For a while on these ratings it looked like heading for Rondon getting a better mark than Joselu, I thought he was ok on Sat.

  • Steve Smith

I’m wondering what’s provoked the sudden increase in shills on here.

    • Wor Lass
