Michael Owen gives strong prediction on where Newcastle United will finish this season
Michael Owen has given his predictions for the new season, who will end up at the right and wrong ends of the Premier League.
No great surprise that he gives a predictable top three, Man City to retain their title, followed by big spending Liverpool, then Tottenham.
At the other end of the spectrum, despite their big transfer spend and many people tipping them to be a surprise package this season, Michael Owen has Fulham to go down.
To join them, he goes for Cardiff and Huddersfield.
As for those clubs in between the top and bottom, Owen has the usual clubs making up the rest of the top six, then Everton, Leicester and West Ham also in the top nine.
However, he also, maybe surprisingly, thinks Newcastle United will repeat their top half finish, despite a lack of ambition shown in the transfer market.
Michael Owen speaking to BetVictor:
“Having sold Alexander Mitrovic to Fulham for a fee reported to be in excess of £20m I am slightly surprised that Rafa Benitez does not have a replacement already through the door at St James Park although West Brom’s 29-year-old striker Salomon Rondon has been strongly linked to the club.
“This is a big week for the club ahead of the visit of Spurs on the opening weekend, but I feel the Magpies can maintain their place in the top half of the division with the Toon Army having their part to play.”
Michael Owen predicted top ten in 2018/19 season:
1st Man City
4th Man Utd
9th West Ham
10th Newcastle United
“I feel Wolves are the best equipped of the newly-promoted sides to make their mark in the Premier League. Indeed it would be no surprise if they finished in the top half of the division, but I am less optimistic about the prospects of both Cardiff and Fulham and expect both sides to struggle to make much of an impact on their return to the Premier League.
“Huddersfield only picked up 13 points in 2018 in the PL and I think they will continue to struggle in the new season.
“Cardiff/Huddersfield and Fulham are my relegation trio.”
