Mark Lawrenson has been looking ahead to Saturday’s late afternoon kick-off at Manchester City.

Despite being a big fan of Rafa Benitez via the Liverpool connection, Lawrenson says Newcastle United and the fans just ‘have to get on with what they have got.’

The BBC pundit declaring ‘I know they go on about Mike Ashley – and they have a point – but he isn’t going to change.’

What an existence we have been dealt.

Now in the twelfth season under Ashley and we just have to get on with it.

I know what Mark Lawrenson is saying and actually agree with him for one, but it doesn’t make it any easier to take.

Outside of transfer windows, Rafa Benitez and his squad, and to a certain extent the fans, do indeed just have to get on with it.

The supporters doing exactly that, although the fact that none of the first five matches has seen Newcastle fans buy up all the tickets, tells us just how low the mood has taken us under the fat controller.

Mark Lawrenson goes for a 3-0 home win and considering Newcastle have conceded 22 goals on their last five visits here, it could be seen as a quite generous prediction.

In any game you usually look for some angle pre-match to suggest Newcastle have a chance of winning but in this one, that is all but impossible.

A gutsy display and staying in the match as long as possible is probably the biggest hope for most Newcastle fans, difficult to believe that this is what we are reduced to when we have a billionaire owner and there has never been more money flowing into Newcastle United than there is now.

Mark Lawrenson speaking to BBC Sport:

“Newcastle were smashed out of the Carabao Cup.

“I know they go on about Mike Ashley – and they have a point – but he isn’t going to change.

“They have to get on with what they have got.

“This will be a very tough game.

“Prediction is Manchester City 3 Newcastle United 0.””

So Lawro’s answer to our problem is simply to stop protesting about Fatboy and his broken promises and just to suck it up? Well, f… me! Why didn’t we all think of that 11 yrs ago? Problem solved.

Wolves played very well against City. Players often raise their game against the bigger sides, let’s hope our mob can step up a gear. They’ll need to.

We need to go 4-4-2………with Rondon and Perez up front. They looked ok together when they eventually came on against Forest.

Atsu, Diame, Ki, and Murphy in midfield.

Yedlin, Fernandez, Lascelles, and Dummett in a back four.
