Gary Lineker savage assessment of Newcastle United at Cardiff

Gary Lineker set to be on our screens later tonight, presenting Saturday night’s Match of The Day.

Cardiff against Newcastle was the early game and along with pretty much everybody else who watched it, the BBC presenter was less than impressed.

In all honesty a game that had all the hallmarks of being  a Championship game in everything but name.

The main tactic from both teams seeing the ball sent forward aimlessly in the hope of something magically happening.

Cardiff managed one shot on target, whilst Newcastle had six, although difficult to remember NUFC getting into the opposition half that many times with any purpose.

No wonder Gary Lineker declared after watching it ‘We’re screwed’ if that dismal effort ends up top of the Match of The Day running order tonight.

The saving grace for Lineker and friends is that the referee and players at least gave some talking points when it came to red cards that were given and not given, along with a number of dubious decisions by the officials.

Not a great advert for buying a Sky Sports subscription and it will be amazing if another match today manages to come after Newcastle’s in the MOTD running order.

However, it would be a miracle/disaster if that proves the case.

The choice of games (with also Chelsea v Arsenal to come in the teatime kick-off) being:

Cardiff 0 Newcastle 0

Everton 2 Southampton 1

Leicester 2 Wolves 0

Tottenham 3 Fulham 1

West Ham 1 Bournemouth 2

Gary Lineker:

“Well if Cardiff v Newcastle is top of the running order on Match of The Day tonight, we’re screwed.”
