Dwight Gayle is now signed up with West Brom according to Sky Sports.

Early Monday afternoon has seen the broadcaster report that their information is that the Newcastle striker has signed for the Baggies.

They add that Salomon Rondon’s move in the other direction is also imminent.

Rondon was photographed at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead on Sunday, whilst Gayle was sighted down in the West Midlands. Both forwards having not featured for their respective clubs on Saturday.

Sky Sports say that the transfer saga has been settled at last and it will see both players sign on loan for a year, with no obligation to buy.

As for cash, they report that Newcastle will make a balancing £2m payment as part of the loan swap deal.

On the surface at least, it is difficult to see Dwight Gayle not scoring goals in the Championship once again, providing he stays fit.

As for Salomon Rondon, Newcastle fans will hope that a change of club will see the striker improve on an eight goals per season in his three Premier League years so far.

Sky Sports:

‘Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle signs for West Brom on loan.

Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle has signed for West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan, according to Sky sources.

Gayle’s switch is part of Newcastle’s move for Salomon Rondon and it is understood that the Venezuelan forward was on Tyneside on Sunday to undergo a medical ahead of his transfer to St James’ Park.

Sky Sports News has been told that Newcastle will pay a £2m loan fee for their part of the deal, which includes no obligation to buy.’

  • Milburn_Taylor

if he get`s through the season without a major injury i think he`ll be the championships leading scorer

  • Tino11

Strange deal, surely it leaves both players thinking they are not really wanted by their clubs but also not wanted enough by the loaning club either?

    • Monkseaton Magpies

If you remember right Rafa tried to get rid of him last season to Fulham as he felt his confidence was low but could not get the striker in he wanted to replace him. Looks like three or four players coming in this week should be at least two to take it up to seven so great news.

            nibble nibble mmm tasty

  • Gareth Marshall

    Is this a joke?

£27m banked from transfers and we are wheeling a dealing about with £2m in a loan swap. It beggars belief.

I understand that we are likely not actually in possession of that £27m as the club continues with its policy to allow buying teams to pay us in installments with us conversely paying the full amount upfront.

But come on man, that money is coming in, speculate with it, the loan is interest free anyway so it’s not really a loan, simply MA’s money.

My god, this is so bleak.

    • Wezza

Exactly well said. Even if we don’t get the staggered payments we still have had the Wijnaldum and Sissoko installments so the club and the trolls have no excuse. Asset stripping and pocketing the money at its finest. I think MA is deliberately taking us down and he will sell up but he wont lost money as he is already well up on his investment.

  • fistsofsteel2

    Good riddance.
Pity we’re getting the hapless Rondon though.
Nobody wins in a stupid and pointless bit of business.

  • Polarboy

I’m more worried about the N’Soki deal. The kid looks, and from what I’ve heard, an amazing prospect. Him and Kenedy on the left flank could be a massive asset for us this year if we get him in.

    • Monkseaton Magpies

People will block you for saying something positive you will be added to the list.

      • Polarboy

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. I usually quality anything positive I say, because only an idiot would say that our transfer window hasn’t been a shambles comparatively to most other teams. Being positive about who might be coming in is not the same as approving of the way in which money is being handed out, or not as the case may be, or the way in which transfer are done in general.

        • Monkseaton Magpies

Has the transfer window been a shambles for Spurs, Man Utd and Burnley. Most would say yes bit the fans remain silent.

          • Paul Patterson

Spurs and Man Utd have top four squads already. Burnley top eight.

          • Ben Jones

Us, top 10. Lol . This is easy

          • Monkseaton Magpies

We are better than Burnley or did you not see the two games last season.

          • SuperDesHamilton

            Lost 1 drew 1 much much better…

          • Polarboy

Are you seriously trying to compare our squad to Spurs or Man U’s. The fact is they’ll probably sp*nk a hundred million on 1 or 2 players before it’s said and done. As for Burnley I’d imagine Dyche would have liked more players in by now, but at least they equalled their transfer fee record with Gibson. In any case I did say most not all, and you have to take teams general transfer practice into account.

          • TheFatController

What, Man Utd buying Fred you mean?

            Idiot.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Ask their manager he is if anything behaving even worse than Rafa.

          • TheFatController

But you said their fans remain silent? They abused the Glaziers non stop when they arrived.

And you go and point out how Man Utd fans wouldn’t protest?

You really aren’t great at supporting any arguments you make, admit it…

          • Wezza

Apparently he is a Man Utd fan.

  • Paul Patterson

A bit of a head scratcher this one. We’ve shipped out Gayle and Armstrong and brought in Rondon and paid £2m for the privilege?
I think we’ve got the bad end of the deal . .

    • Polarboy

Well, there was a disparity in their market value in favour of Rondon. Whether someone agrees with that pricing is almost immaterial.

    • panther

definately, I would have given Armstrong a chance before buying a proven over 3 seasons below average PL striker

    • ghostrider

We won’t know who’s got the better deal until we see what Rondon can do for us.
If he does better than Gayle then we get the better deal.

      • TheFatController

        🤡

  • Megatron1505

Unless we’re planning to bring in another striker this deal (along with the sale of Armstrong) is ridiculous. Even more so when you look at the paltry sums of money involved and stack them against the sale price of Mitrovic, Mbemba and Merino.

    Asset stripping at its finest.

    • ghostrider

Hardly asset stripping. More like clearing the wage decks in order to add new sustainable wages to it.
Rafa wouldn’t play Mitrovic or Mbemba and Merino pulled a sicky.
Only sensible to free up the wages and gain any outgoing transfer fees for those players.

I’d say it’s a sensible outcome, although personally I’d have kept Mitro and Mbemba, but I don’t own or manage the club and players.

You’ll carefully note that no other club is interested in rondon, no sir not one. Not Palace nicking him from under our nose, not even Fulham wanting him instead of the more expensive Mitro. Not even the Foxes who will know him well in the midlands. Rafa’s list must be page 113 to sign him, but he might score 7 which is a success the way we are up front.

    • Milburn_Taylor

Newcastle don`t get into bidding wars, you have quoted Rondon, how many were in for Muto.

          2) Why would ask me if other clubs had bid or contacted West Brom? Nowhere did I suggest that other clubs had done those things. Straw man.

          • Clarko

That’s still not a quote, I don’t know what ‘Ashley has made 180m profit on transfers’ means. Like I said at the time provide me with a quote from the article and the name of the article so I can find it. As I said before that number you quoted is not net spend (so it doesn’t matter):

‘What I can say is that number (£180m) is not net spend, excluding this window (using figures form transfermarkt) Newcastle have a net spent of €76.88m under Ashley (we’ve spent more than we have sold).’

          • Superdooperhooper

Quote – since 2007 the club has made a profit on player sales every season up to 2016 -17 on information contained within the club’s own balance sheets. The total profit stands at 179.8m.ROGER BELL AT VYSYBLE 19 JUN 2018

          • Clarko

Yeah, that number is not net spend, it’s ‘net transfer profit’. All that number means is that Newcastle sell players for a profit on what they initially payed, Sissoko being an example. You were wrong to use that number, it had no relevance to the conversation.

          • Superdooperhooper

Yes which means since ashley took over we buy cheap and sell high. And that’s your level of ambition is it? We’re a selling club and you’re happy with that? Not a Newcastle fan. Goodbye

          • Clarko

And there we go, the stupidity comes out.

Where did I say that Ashley doesn’t buy cheap and sell high? Where did I say that we weren’t a selling club? Where did I say that I was happy with that?

        *end of season alternative*

  • Nut

Be interesting if the Rondon move suddenly fell through now due to some complication or other. Given the Baggies already have Gayle signed sealed and delivered presumably with us with no recall option. That would leave us extremely up the Creek.

I don’t personally think Rondon is going to prove a bad player for us the jury is out still on this so give the lad a chance.

Fact is we have let Mitrovic go a player who offered something many fans liked but Rafa didn’t and swapped him for a player who is similar in playing style who Rafa obviously does rate and want. The bonus being at least we have a striker Rafa should trust and play!

Too many are complaining regards us having sold on multiple players but the majority have been bit part players for us for one reason or another mainly because Rafa hasn’t seemingly fancied them.

Hopefully by keeping a tight leash on the purse strings now it will mean we can spend in January or next season if safe by then and really rock on if Rafa stays.

I for one think if we can get Rondon and one other striker in we stand a good chance.

I would prefer this French striker we have been linked to over Danny Ings, personally I think Ings is a risk given he hasn’t been playing for Liverpool and had major issues with his knee.

I would much rather we bought this young French player who sounds like he has massive potential.

But if we can get Ings and the French guy in then we could be rocking!

    • Milburn_Taylor

we`ve had a few of those ,French guys, wonder what happened to them

    • Milburn_Taylor

      West Brom fans

    • Down Under Mag

If he shows his form for Zenit then I think everyone will and then we will have no chance in signing him at the end of the season. West Brom were awful for most of last season and weren’t exactly creating chances for the guy…the one thing we did do last season was create chances, even more so when we got Kenedy. The trouble was our forwards needed 3 or 4 chances if not more before they actually scored. Hopefully we continue to create and he has a more clinical touch in front of goal.

  • Leicester Mag

I’m waiting for Rondon to fail the medical nothing would surprise with football’s equivalent to the Keystone cops.

  • Mike

Good luck to the lad. You did a good job for us

  • robbersdog

So…Gayle is still a Newcastle player and Rondon is still a West Brom player, but we’ve done football’s equivalent of wife-swapping for a season.

It all sounds a bit odd; if Rondon flops, we’ve lost Gayle for a season and paid £2m for a dud, and if he’s a success, he won’t necessarily be our player at the end of the season as he’ll attract offers from other clubs. It’s a short-sighted, short-term fix, but par for the course for our club under Ashley.

BTW, are we still going to sign another striker, or is this it?

    • Ben Jones

Dunno mate, I guess we just have to trust Rafa’s judgement

      • Ken.

        🤡

      • robbersdog

You’ve missed the point; the club’s owner doesn’t trust Rafa’s judgement, but if he did, we’d be buying a striker who can score 15 goals this season.

        • Ben Jones

          Must be a cashflow problem

        • fistsofsteel2

We had one. Rafa wouldn’t play him.

          • robbersdog

Mitrovic played 72 games for Newcastle, most of them under Rafa. He wasn’t good enough, get over it.

    • Milburn_Taylor

i have grave doubts he would want to stay as we all know what will happen when Rafa leaves next year

    • nufcslf

My money would be on, that is it.

      • Wezza

Well we won’t be buying anyone and we have the maximum of 2 loans already now. With £25M profit in this window and we still don’t spend it is either one of two things:
        Lunacy/bad business

        or

On purpose with a hidden agenda.

Why else would MA have staggered payments. It makes no sense, Rafa doesn’t see any of it but I bet MA does. As for the TV money, MA has pocketed the lot. Regardless of what the trolls say our wage bill is not 80M, Bournemouth have a similar wage bill to us at 40M. The misconception (on purpose by the regime) is that our wage bill is so high the TV money covers it. Which can be true however our wage bill is not 80M it is 45M at the current time. The lowest it has been for years. Pure asset stripping and getting cheaper and cheaper labour. That is all our footballers are to MA is labour.
I’m wavering from the point which is thats our lot!

Cash could be used to pay Richard Keys.

The money will be made available next summer, for a new manager, just so Ashley can prove a point and show Benitez who was boss. I also bet it will be made available out of next years TV money and this years will have gone conspicuously missing…

Gayle knows his level. Rondon may well prove a masterstroke. Delighted we sold liability Mitrovic and if he succeeds at Fulham against PL defenders who will wind him up from minute 1 I’ll be amazed.

Ashley might not want to put money in to the club because we are going to be taken over by? Or as I think he does not care what the fans think or the manager.

#RonDone . Fans on Twitter going mental about our new signing, LOTS of happy excited people. Great strengthening by the club
