Don Goodman has been taking a look at the Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United clash on Sunday night.

Newcastle lost to Forest 3-2 in extra time at St James Park in the same second round a year ago

Rolando Aarons and Aleksandar Mitrovic scored Newcastle’s goals that night but neither will be involved this time.

Predicting the score of these games is arguably less difficult than guessing who will and won’t play.

Rafa Benitez indicating on Tuesday that he is set to make numerous changes to his team and bemoaned the fact that a lack of transfer backing in the summer makes it very difficult to attack the cups.

Don Goodman has taken over prediction duties for the League Cup in this competition and he believes extra time is once again calling.

The former Sunderland striker thinks it will be a 1-1 draw and matters will be sorted in extra time or penalties.

Six games this season have seen Forest win one and draw five, whilst Newcastle have drawn once and lost two, little wonder that the prediction is a draw.

A lot of interest will focus on who plays up front and whilst Rafa will play a ‘weaker’ team, the likes of Yoshinori Muto will surely get a game and we will see ow well he gets on alongside Rondon, Joselu or Perez.

A tough one to call as wait to see if Rafa’s Newcastle pick up their first win of the season on Wednesday night.

Don Goodman talking to Sky Sports:

“I think it’ll be very tight.

“Forest are unbeaten but they have drawn four of their five Championship games so far, while Newcastle have had it tough, having faced, and lost to, Spurs and Chelsea already.

“Rafa will keep it tight and make things really difficult.

“Although you’d think they might try and open up a little bit more against a Championship side.

“I’m going to go for a draw.

“Prediction is Nottingham Forest 1 Newcastle United 1.”

It will be tough if as expected Rafa makes wholesale changes. Whilst fed up of our not competing to win a trophy, survival in the Premiership seems to be the aim again. Would still be good to see a decent performance as morale plays a big part in gaining momentum. If we lose then expect to see pressure mount yet further upon Ashley.

I don’t really care, every year it’s the same old patter, surviving in the premiership is the main concern, when Rafa goes so do I, I won’t even watch them on tv.
We’re an embarrassment to football, all down to the Fat 🐀 Rat.

    • SuperDesHamilton

If we were a club with tiny resources & small income I could understand us trying to just survive. Not when we know the money this club generates. It just all goes to that fat freak though & the status quo never challenge it

      • Kenny

Where’s the tv money disappeared to, House of Fraser probably.

        • SuperDesHamilton

Or the old John Lewis storage units he bought last year for £200 mil

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

How can you go when you have never been?

      • Kenny

who said anything about going, not i, you idiot

        • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

You are hardly making much of a point saying “if Rafa goes, I go” when you don’t bother turning up anyway.

Don Goodman didn’t have a good word to say about us in the championship. Always sniping at us along with that nonce David prutton & Keith Andrews. Absolutely broke them beyond belief when we beat Brighton away after the dog botherer bobby madley gave them an early pen

  • Toontaff

Either Goodman is clueless or the reporter is? There is no extra-time, just penalties after 90 minutes.

  • Kenny

That lunatic Monk Mugpie will be on the 🚌 heading for Nottingham, he drinks in Peppers after home games & he’s easily recognisable 🤡 that’s him

    • Monkseaton Magpies

Just went in to see Brian but it’s a good stop till the Metro clears. Three one tonight and lets hope for a home tie in the next round.

      • Kenny

Funny that i have 3-1 as well.

    • Brian Standen

He drinks mainly in three bulls knackers!

Why turn up at all? The manager has nowt to put forward to make a go of it and as the tossp#t owner wants us out anyway it literally makes no sense to waste time and effort and money going to or even checking on the result. Ashley you [email protected] f off!

Sorry we are still a premiership side with a world class manager. We should be favourites to win this given Forests form over the last few years. Yes our signings are premier bargain basement but on paper we are still a class above Forest. Give it a go Rafa, don’t play for penalties for once

  • We will come out for the win with an alternative squad. Sterry, Longstaff, Atsu and Kenedy all have a point to prove and should be fired up to win.
I think it can be done lads, I say we beat Forrest 2-0 (Perez and Longstaff scoring).
