With only two games of the season gone, Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho are at the top of the betting for next Premier League Manager to go.

As usual, when Manchester United lose a game, many of their fans go way over the top in their reaction – though they are rarely criticised for that, unlike certain other groups of supporters…

Losing 3-2 at Brighton, the bookies have reacted by making Jose Mourinho 4-1 joint favourite with Leicester City’s Claude Puel.

With Rafa Benitez and Mark Hughes (Southampton) just behind them on 6-1.

Both Leicester and Southampton owners have been shown to be trigger happy in recent times.

During Rafa Benitez’ time at Newcastle, both of those clubs have had four managers, so far…

As for Rafa, difficult to see either the Newcastle boss walking out, or Mike Ashley sacking him.

I have little doubt Ashley wants another puppet as soon as possible but won’t be wanting to pay the £6m compensation to sack the Spaniard, plus Rafa gives the club some measure of respectability whilst he still remains.

As for Rafa Benitez himself,  he is showing no signs of wanting to leave, at least not before the end of the season when his contract runs out, despite being totally undermined by the NUFC owner.

Odds on Next Premier League Manager to go:

4/1 Jose Mourinho

4/1 Claude Puel

6/1 Rafa Benitez

6/1 Mark Hughes

8/1 Neil Warnock

66/1 Jurgen Klopp

100/1 Pep Guardiola

I don’t think the vermin owner wanted Rafa in the first place, he took him on in desperation to avoid relegation & since promotion back to the premiership he’s totally blanked the manager, if a club came in with £6m for Rafa the Fat Rat would be as happy as a pig in 💩

    • Lord

I think MA would love Rafa to stay if he only ‘toed the line’ like Pardew and McClaren. A manager who can get a top half PL finish whilst also showing a profit in transfers over his tenure? Perfect.

      • Paul Patterson

Sadly, the lower the spend or even making profit, makes it far more difficult to attain top half. If only we’d had that £25m Mitrovic money to go on a replacement . .

        • Lord

Yeh, I don’t think we’ll obtain top half this season, but Ashley clearly doesn’t care too much about that, 17th will do.

        • HarryHype59

The future instalments from that deal have been added to the asking price of the club.

      • Leazes.

…with players supplied by Charnley, scouted by Nickson and approved by Justin Barnes….. in other words a ‘head coach’.

Who is playing Football Manager at United at the moment?… it’s not Rafa.

        • Kenny

Nickson was Carr’s man & the trend continues, I think Rafa gets a txt telling him who’s being signed

        • HarryHype59

          But what about the “Rafalution”?

I was told by this club Rafa was in charge of transfers. Have I been lied to?

  • Paul Patterson

Mourinho will be gone by November.
Rafa will be there next May but not July.

  • Leazes.

Jose will be our manager sometime, bound to be.

    • Paul Patterson

Not under this owner. He was the original chequebook manager and now he doesn’t like it when people like Guardiola spend more than he does . .

      • Leazes.

It’ll be when he turns into a Journeyman proper…. he hasn’t touched the naff clubs yet.

    • Kenny

      so will Pep Pardew

      • Leazes.

Mark Hughes will be next…. the criteria is…
        A. Puppet
        B. Journeyman
        C. Hasn’t had a go yet

        • Gareth Jones

          Alan. Curbishley

    • Lewis SG

Except that we don’t have the money to pay his salary

    • Steven05

I’ve often thought that! But can’t see him coming when we are in the old 2nd/3rd division…

    • Peaky

Are you trying to set Ryder off ???

  • toonterrier

Luckily for Rafa he’s in a no lose situation. His contract ends at the end of the season so he can then walk away and join a club with ambition. Even if we get relegated the blame will be pointed at the fatman for not investing money in players with the potential to get us near the top of the league rather than being happy with us surviving in the cashpot Premier money maker. Good luck Rafa you deserve better.

  • Tweed Mag

It is not often the bookies get things wrong. Mourinho is in a huff and that seems to lead to a break down with his team and club, so it would not be a surprise to see him go if results don’t improve. Rafa has the support of the team and the supporters – but then again we have a baffoon of an owner. It is a worry.

Bookies make Jose Mourinho and Claude Puel favourite to be next Premier League manger to go*

  • Peaky

I don’t mind Mourinho as he always has decent things to say about NUFC and his obvious allegiance to SBR…..however there’s no denying in football terms he’s fallen behind Guardiola,Klopp & Pochetino…..

  • Philippines

Let us not forget that, in his own words, Alex Ferguson was one match away from getting fired in his early days at Man U. The most STUPID sacking was that of Bobby Robson at NUFC after 5 games of the season.

  • HarryHype59

Rafa looks fed up with Fatties obsession with cost cutting! It wouldn’t surprise me if Leicester offered to buy out his clause if Puel gets the boot. Ashley will pocket the £6m and appoint Fat Sham just to twist the knife further.

His brief will be to get this team to finish 17th.

  • MadMag83

I would think the Huddersfield manager Wagner, has to be in the mix. He was immune last season given their promotion on a shoe string, but he’s had a bit of money to spend in the summer so the pressure will be on.

  • Spoon_Army

Rafa will not walk until contract over.
AShley not likely to push him out either.
    New manager 2019/2020 season.
