The Newcastle United reserve team has been named ahead of tonight’s match.

The NUFC second string take on Barrow at 7.45pm in their first pres-season friendly.

The eleven who take on the National League side includes Achraf Lazaar and Ivan Toney, both of who have played for the Newcastle first team.

Also in the team that starts is a ‘Trialist’, the club giving no indication pre-match of who this is.

Newcastle United reserve team v Barrow tonight:

Harker; Cass, McEntee, O’Connor, Lazaar; Allan, M. Longstaff, Sangare, Trialist; Charman, Toney

On Saturday, the Newcastle United Academy (Under 18s) side played their first friendly, beating Scunthorpe Under 18s 3-0.

Newcastle United’s earlier announcement:

Newcastle United Under-23s kick-off their pre-season preparations with a friendly at Barrow on Monday night.

The young Magpies face the National League outfit at the Furness Building Society Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm) in what will be their first outing since they returned to training earlier this month.

Ben Dawson’s youngsters face a Bluebirds side – managed by former Blackpool defender Ian Evatt – which will contain plenty of know-how, with the experienced ex-Norwich City and Aston Villa frontman Grant Holt among the players who could feature.

United, meanwhile, will be without the services of Sean Longstaff, Callum Roberts, Victor Fernández and Josef Yarney, who are all away with Rafa Benítez’s first team at their training camp in Ireland.

However, the Magpies still have the likes of Ivan Toney, Dan Barlaser, Nathan Harker and Owen Bailey in their ranks, and all four could be in line to get valuable minutes under their belts against the Cumbrian side, who beat League Two’s Crewe Alexandra 1-0 last time out.

Tickets for the game can be purchased at the ground, priced at £10 for adults, £7.50 for concessions (students and over-65s) and £5 for 16-22-year-olds. Admission is free for under-16s.
