Tuesday morning has seen breaking news claiming that West Ham have made an offer for Jamaal Lascelles.

Sky Sports say that the offer was £20m up front, with another £5m if hitting certain targets.

The broadcaster saying however, that the offer was quickly knocked back by Newcastle United.

There had been a bit of a lull once the World Cup started in terms of speculation/claims of interest and offers for the Newcastle Captain.

However, as we move into the final four weeks of the transfer window it was predictable he would be the target for other clubs.

As Newcastle’s key player and leader, £20m in today’s market would be laughable, never mind the thought that he would want to jump shift from NUFC to West Ham.

The last speculation was around five weeks ago (see below) when it was claimed Tottenham were interested, with a valuation of up to £45m for Jamaal Lascelles.

Spurs expecting to lose Toby Alderweireld and bank at least £50m, which would potentially be more than enough to buy Lascelles. With Alderweireld starring in the World Cup and a semi-final with Belgium tonight, he will certainly be going for big money this summer.

However, here’s hoping/expecting Lascelles is going nowhere, whether for big money or indeed the paltry sum that West Ham have offered.

The Mag – 6 June 2018:

No surprise that Jamaal Lascelles continues to be talked about as the Newcastle player coveted by other clubs.

The 24 year old had a stellar season as he led Newcastle United’s ‘Championship’ squad to a 10th place finish and safety with still a month to go.

Having previously only started 10 Premier League matches, the 2017/18 season couldn’t have been more impressive.

Recent days have seen claims of a £30m move to Everton, a figure and club that most Newcastle fans have seen as very unlikely.

However, the London Evening Standard now claim that there is a real threat to Newcastle hanging onto their captain, with the newspaper claiming their information is that Tottenham are now ready to act and rival Chelsea for the player.

With Tottenham expecting to bank in excess of £50m from Toby Alderweireld’s impending departure, the Standard says they will then use that money to try and buy Jamaal Lascelles.

This new report also carries a more realistic transfer fee (in this crazy market), saying they understand it will take a bid of around £45m to land Lascelles.

The report continuing, saying that this kind of figure may finally convince Rafa Benitez to sell and use the money to help land his own essential targets.

Obviously we treat all newspaper reports with extreme caution but there is set to be serious money spent in the Premier League this summer and the quoted £45m figure for Jamaal Lascelles, is at least in the right ballpark.

Newcastle fans of course still waiting of course for more news on quality players coming in, rather than going out.

The signing of Martin Dubravka of course being a no-brainer, Newcastle having only a limited period of time to activate his £4m buyout clause.

  • Toonrobbybobson

    I just burst out laughing!

  • Scott wood

I’m surprised the FCB didn’t accept it

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

If anyone bids £40m, he will

      • FatParosite

Lascelles will go for just over £30m I reckon.

        • TheFatController

We’ll also take a player off them on loan, as that fits into the current ‘won’t pay until Rafa signs’ transfer policy we have

      • Scott wood

        More than likely

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          I`d put money on it

      • steve

        So would any owner.

  • SH.ER

Not for sale, p*ss off …
Who would wanna even go & play for their fans anyway …

    • FatParosite

Money talks bonny lad, and bull$hit seemingly throws a badly worded poorly thought out strop at financial doping in the Mag … it seems.

  • TheFatController

Looks like the Mexican standoff between Rafa and Ashley has just been joined by Lascelles and his agents.

Two of the three won’t be here in a year, I’ll wager.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Last Man standing will be the Great Obese One

      • TheFatController

Bids like this one will put pressure on the stand-off. Because Lascelles will want to know what’s happening with Rafa.

If Rafa and Ashley can’t tell him…… hello west ham!

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

Fatty will want double that figure, but what the bid will do is draw out more potential buyers

          • TheFatController

As Oscar Wilde might have put it

“To lose your manager is unfortunate, to lose your captain and manager is careless …’

    • FatParosite

Those would book very bad odds.

    • Weyhhadaway

The fat lad doesn’t care, he is the owner and does it his way or the highway. If Lascelles leaves he banks a bunch of wonga, if Rafa sees out his contract he will get another good year of survival in the prem with us being one of the most watched teams bringing another 15M or so mil on top of the base 120M. If Rafa gets poached, which would be mikes choice, then he banks another 6M. With a host of more pliable managers out there. Easy money.

      • TheFatController

Yep. Exactly why he’s a poor owner with two relegations on his charge sheet..

        • Ram Kishore

He’s a poor owner but I doubt he pockets the money the club generates.. just a open.minded opinion

          • TheFatController

I didn’t say he did pocket the money. Why imply I did ?

          • Ram Kishore

Sorry mate.. i was planning to post it to Weyhhadaway.. accidental..
            Cheers and sorry again☺

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Must have an idiot like Penfold overseeing their transfers

  • paul mclaughlan

See ya J. Was nice knowing you.

  • FatParosite

another £5m should see Lascelles gone

  • Weyhhadaway

He is in a great position, if the toon buy good players he can stay and know that Rafa will increase his value next season, if he feels the club aren’t going to do anything he can move to a top six team in the next couple of weeks.

    • TheFatController

Yep, this puts ashley under intense pressure to make clear if he’s selling, if Rafa’s staying more than a year etc.

It’s your club Mike, your money, as the apologists tel us. Sort out your manager and captain, let us know how it’s all going?

      • Weyhhadaway

Ashley doesn’t care, he makes money on both deals either way.

        • TheFatController

Yeah, of course. And that’s why we’re going nowhere, as Keegan rightly predicted

          • Weyhhadaway

The one plus I see in the Rafa Scenario is that Ashley wants him to sign a new deal, so he might give him just enough in the market this window to make him sign, which would possibly get us a striker . I mean a real I am goal scorer, don’t worry though, they will be around with my meds shortly.

  • Weyhhadaway

this sort of interest in Lascelles was always going to happen, I am not worried about West Ham and their dodgy toy empire, but a top six team may well turn the lad.

  • Paul Patterson

Which half do they want, the top or the bottom?

    • Weyhhadaway

When the price is above 30M and from a top six team for Lascelles to say yes.

  • joe mac

how long before fatso says sell!!

    • HarryHype59

Once offers get up to £35m.

  • Wezza

More PR to give the impression that MA actually cares about players and the team over money. Doesn’t work with me.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Lascelles has just signed a new contract and loves it here so much he says he is staying put playing regular first team football. This is a non story and the club even if it wanted cannot force him to leave. Great season a head. It might be all doom and gloom on here but most fans excited. Had the Dorset branch on this morning buzzing bout Kenedy and meeting up at Cardiff. Happy days indeed.

    • Weyhhadaway

If I was Lascelles I’d be looking at my chances of breaking into the England team. With the current squad doing well in the WC they will be even harder to push out, especially while playing for us. So don’t be surprised if he says yes to a top team, not WHU though.

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Problem with a top team is will not be guaranteed a game but agree with you players from Newcastle and other North East teams do their England chances no good what so ever. If Pickford and Henderson were still at Sunderland team in the Premiership they would now be on the beach not in Russia.

        • Mark Potter

A Sunderland team in the Premiership is now an oxymoron. ;)

With Liverpool, Henderson appeared in a Champions League final. Is it Liverpool which got him the place in England team, or his ability to play at that level? He wouldn’t have been bought by Liverpool, and wouldn’t be a regular starter for them, never mind selected by Klopp to play in such an important match, if he didn’t have talent, and work exceptionally hard. His presence in the England side merely means Southgate agrees with Klopp on Henderson. I agree with Southgate and Klopp. He’s a warrior who makes the team tick. He doesn’t have the flashy passing of a Shelvey, but that’s not his role in the team. He’s there to break up moves by the opposition, and he’s proven time and time again for several years that he’s probably the best England have in that role.

It’s not that Shelvey wears black and white, if he was the best holding midfielder playing in England, he would have a shout. But he isn’t even the best holding midfielder at Newcastle.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Your`re a bright light in a dark tunnel & always cheer the lads up.
even though you`re as mad as a Schitt house Rat

    • SuperDesHamilton

Dorset branch randomly ringing the #1 toon fan to make sure deal is official.

Bet you know Pele & Jackie chan as well

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Yes at 8.54am they were that excited shame more on here could not follow their example.

        • superalansuddick

I`m sure if you put your phone number up a few on here would be calling you up.

        • TheFatController

Don’t worry, we all feel suitably humble when the Mighty Mugpie shames us, have no worries on that one.

        • SuperDesHamilton

The people on here are real, your friends are in your head

    • Milo79

Aren’t you getting ahead of yourself just a touch? We’ve swapped Merino for Ki and have retained the services of Kenedy and Dubravka. We are ostensibly no stronger than we were on the last day of the season.

    • Ram Kishore

We have just now got to the strength we were at the end of last match.. we still haven’t strengthened beyond that.. Hope 3 more come in and atleast 5 goes out

  • Leicester Mag

    🐽 has 🚁 warmed up.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

It`ll be fueled up and ready to go, that`s for sure

    • Kneebotherm8

      Oink oink……

  • MadMag83

Newcastle knock back ‘paltry’ offer for one of their players, whilst offering paltry offers for other teams best players.

Ashley is a cowboy, just needs two horses.

  • nevfur

I think he will stay here where he will play every week and continue to learn from Rafa. As for next year if Rafa goes who knows but he should be worth at least £75M by then

    • Geordiegiants

If John stones was £50m Lascelles is definetly £75m.

  • Danimal

Sorry but not feeling optimistic on this one. Now that the first bid has come in, Ashley will be alerted. He’ll be thinking about how much he can get for him, not how much it will take to keep him. That’s the default position unfortunately.

    • Mark Potter

Didn’t we get the same speculation from West Ham to buy Shelvey? He’s still here. The default position is that our best players are all on long contracts. Lascelles was offered, and gladly accepted, a long contract extension not so long ago.

  • Mxpx

Sorry hammers it’s going to take a bigger club than you

  • Billmag

Fatty won’t sell Jamaal just yet because he see’s him as an insurance against relegation.

  • Dillon Tovak

£25m? We find this offensive! He’s our captain and categorically not for sale.

    Ok, how about £30m?
Sold, nice doing business with you.

  • robbersdog

Those cockney w*nkers are having a laugh.

    • Weyhhadaway

In the same way we get laughed at when we “bid”

  • Toon 83

Fair play to Ashley on this. How tight the funds are at the minute it must have been tempting to sell him. If they went to 30 million I’d sell him though.

    • Dillon Tovak

Really? Why? I can’t imagine it would be reinvested. Even if it was we’d have to spend that amount to get someone who probably wouldn’t be as good anyway.

      • DC1964

I totally agree, why sell your best players? It would be utterly pointless!

        • Jimmy_toons

Never stopped us in the past.

          • DC1964

This is true but hopefully not now – hopefully!!

    • Wezza

126M tv money and funds are tight. You sound just like one of the Lee brothers!

      • HarryHype59

He is obviously yet another WUM Troll seeking attention.

    • HarryHype59

The club banked £126m last season. How in earth can money be tight..Mr Troll?

  • Nut

West Ham and fans are saying Newcastle and their fans have unrealistic expectations and that we should be biting their hands off at that offer!

If they honestly think we are being unrealistic then they must be living on mars!

    • Dillon Tovak

If they think we’re being unrealistic, why do they even want the player?

Lascelles isn’t dumb enough to go to that circus. He’s already the star of this one.

      • Nut

My experience of West Ham fans is most are unrealistic and living in lala land.

They think they are/have a right to be a top team and that a side should be grateful for them looking at their players and sell to them just because of who they are whatever they offer.

West Ham fans berrated is for wanting Pardew out etc but shoe on the other foot and things are totally different in their eyes!

  • Bearsize

West ham fans are like liverpool fans, but without the history!

  • HarryHype59

If a club offers £40m Lascelles will be sold. The money will then vanish in to MASH.

  • pedrodelgardo

So what? bids, speculative hopeful bids probably go on all the time and if they don’t then some people aren’t doing their job properly. If no one was bidding for any of our players it would be a cause for concern.
